I'd rather be stronger and have (dragon like / dragon slaying) abilities. Don't get me wrong I love my wyvern in xi, but I don't think it's worth losing power just to have a pet. I'd rather be a really heavy DD.

Maybe if they have the Dragoon without the pet but he can call upon it if he wants to have the pet fight by his side.
When u call ur pet the stats get split and if you dont u remain a powerful dragoon?
maybe dragoon can have a pokeball or something

Why not just have Dragoon summon your pet as a cooldown ability?
3000 TP Cool down timer of 5 minutes, last 1 or 2 minutes. it basically replicates your moves (with a slightly lower dmg maybe 75-90% of your dmg) giving the job considerably amazing chances of being great burst DDing dependent on how long a fight would go for. People get their pets and those that don't want a pet class get to love their pet anyways because of what it's capable of doing.

It won't make dragoons weaker to have a Wyvern on their side. All it does is split your damage, but the total isn't going to change. Why are so many people hung up on seeing big numbers?
Personally I'm a bit disappointed; going by the feedback in this thread, pet dragons probably won't happen.
Exactly what this poster said! Just add in both dmg from player and wyvrenIt won't make dragoons weaker to have a Wyvern on their side. All it does is split your damage, but the total isn't going to change. Why are so many people hung up on seeing big numbers?

Retired FFXI character: Ranok of Sylph
I agree with you. we need more then 4 melee jobs doing the same thing. Having a pet will make dragoon different from WAR and MNK....It won't make dragoons weaker to have a Wyvern on their side. I think it's because some of us would like to play as a different kind of Dragoon from FFXI.
To me, having a wyvern for a pet is not true Final Fantasy.

See, the funny thing about this statement "Play a different kind of Dragoon from FFXI", is aside from Freya and FFTT, DRG has always been the same and FFXI's DRG was actually a different kind of Dragoon.

It already is different. MRD/WAR = AoE, LNC/DRG = Single target, PGL/MNK is hit-or-miss right now but will likely be the "blink tank" of FFXIV. ARC will go the way of buffer, GLA is a tank. They are adding two pet classes in the future (Summoner & Beastmaster). So what you're saying is, make three pet classes, a tank, an aoe trash tank, and evade tank, with no strict melee available? No thanks.
Yes but only if its a 2h like ability, or a final 2h combo like Yoshi said in some interview.
/ac "Dragoon Knight 1337 Ability"
<Takhisis pops and crits Odin for 9999 dmg>
Thats the only way I would have a pet.
Please Yoshi, I beg you...... no mini-pony-dragon..... please
