I don't think you will be able to get a solid answer that's guaranteed to work, only wild guesses. Keep that in mind when making your decision.

No one knows how much they will change astros. They might tweak mana management, spell potencies, cooldowns, heck maybe even alter some of the mechanics. It is also possible that they won't change anything major and only adjust certain values (judging from previous promises).

Buy the essential items for your SCH to keep up with your static's progression and hold on to your remaining Esos / savage pages until 3.1. They will also introduce the new 24-man raid in 3.1, so even if you are behind in gearing your AST, you'll most likely be able to get it up to speed.

Not only determination, everything's scaling pretty poorly with current gear. At least till we're getting saturated with secondary stats through inflated ilevel gear - Like ten levels back before 3.0.

I've done a relatively small scale testing concerning crit on scholar:
    716 crit
341 auto attacks and 41 of them being a critical hit (12% rate)
Got bored after 17 minutes of watching my character book smack a dummy

Back at level 50, having that much crit would have been around 26%, if not more.

Piety is actually fairly strong for AST compared to SCH.

Each point of Piety increases your Maximum MP by ~6.5 on AST at 60 compared to ~6.2 for SCH. In-Combat Mana Regen Rate is also based off of your max MP (2% of your max mana per tic).

Mana Regen per tic = Max MP * 0.02.

Just wanted to add a bit of information to the thread.

Found some interesting stuff on reddit concerning crit calculation:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...mage_formulae/

I somewhat doubt it to be accurate but according to the calculation you would have a crit chance of approx. 13,3857233%, which comes close to your auto-hit test (which is in-fact small-scaled).
Maybe I'll do some testing with my AST.

On a side note, considering that crit scales in a linear fashion (at least it appeared that way in 2.0+ -> see valk dancing mad (which is by now outdated, but well I honestly don't think that they changed crit behaviour with 3.0)), it is rather obvious that they'd downgrade crit rating - crit chance "transcription"(or rather applying said behaviour for every secondary stat). Otherwise secondary stats would be overpowered as fuck (as you mentioned you'd have 26%+ crit chance with gear from the "start" of an expansion).

    For me i just go

    Wep > Mnd > Crit=Det >>>>>>>>>> Spell speed>>> Pie

If spell speed effect HoTs i would of place it first but it only effects DoTs only i try spell speed before on my last gear b4 esorterics and it did jack for my HoTs so i switch to Crit/Det instead

if spell speed does effect hots..... i barely even notice the increase because it is that bad

And im soo put off by the esorteric weapon... damn pie/spell speed ughhh..... so im waiting for relic instead i could get ravana wep if i wanted to but it will get upgraded too fast so i havent brought it with my tokens xD.... im carefully planning my character

For AST i would go with Det but that is just only on my ideal world were SCH are crit and WHM are SS.

I love the official forums, they tell you to use the search for thread about what you wanted to talk but when you use it they judge for necro a thread.

    3.00 Patch Notes

Skilspeed and spellspeed now affect damage over time and healing over time effects.
Though I have heard SpS and SkS add an extremely negligible amount to DoTs and HoTs (take with a grain of salt)

Interesting findings i've done with spell speed for AST (No Sect).

At 60, apparently Spell Speed reduces the GCD after 26~27 points invested into AFTER the threshhold of 361 Spell Speed has been reached. Going from 360 to 361 Spell Speed takes the GCD from 2.5 to 2.49.

Going from 361 to 387 drops the GCD by 0.01

Going from 387 to 414 drops to GCD by 0.01

Going from 414 to 440 drops the GCD by 0.01

    So on and so forth.

    Equation: floor(New GCD) = 2.5 - (((Current Spell Speed - 334) / 26.5) * 0.01)
