I remember thinking that Yoshi was wise for making combat-system changes in order to fix the foundation of the game.
Then I heard that combat change = autoattack.
I think that was when I stopped taking the dev team seriously.

I didn't want auto attack in this game...... I was against it. But I am living with it so you guys can as well. ^.^ as others are saying double attack and haste is going to be put in the game later. I would love to see that second meter to come into play..... if you don't know what im talking about click HERE
Yeah, let's just forget about the enmity changes, the MP changes, the battle regimen changes, the stat changes and the job system.

do i sense sarcasm? then let us continue on that chain of thought
let's forget about chocobos, ifrit battles, extra dungeons, class balancing, improvements to crafting, the materia system, enemy level balancing...
I wonder if User201109011315 always complains about the food in restraunts because it wasn't prepared by 'it's original developer'. Though I doubt he gets out from under his rock enough to go to a restraunt tbh
Auto-attack is a good thing to build on. As more skills are introduced into the game, the more time you'll be spending using skills, abilities and spells, you wouldn't have time to have to keep pressing the 1 key to get extra TP, so it's better if the game does it automatically.
Also considering how to play it on a gamepad, you'd need some pretty fast fingerwork to keep up with the pace that keyboard users have, so if they kept the original system once it comes out on PS3, you'd end up with some players that could attack quickly and spam off skills, and then PS3 players who's fighting would be slow as they have to keep cycling through skills to use them whilst somehow still managing to throw the basic attack in too.
Wait till weapons like Ridill,Kraken Club, the Mercurial series, and traits like Double attack, Triple attack, Zanshin the works.
Goodbye, Final Fantasy...
Actually i used to play with a gamepad, it worked fine before, it had a lot to do with where you position your skills, so the important ones are only so far away, but it had more to do with the number of skills, and how you access them than AA or not AA. Its still somewhat of a problem.do i sense sarcasm? then let us continue on that chain of thought

But yeah AA is slow, but at least tp isnt that slow, they need to build a lot more on the AA system though, and it needs a lot of tweaks, i will be interested to see how it feels after the next patch. I still say that having an AA initiating button or skill would have worked a lot better. I dont exactly get why they went for the anything you have targeted with your weapon out is going to get hit. It would also be nice if they had some other visual indicator of when an AA was going to happen.
Know what you mean, was cycling through enemies in a leve the other day and accidentally punched a marmot that was standing too close to the fight.Actually i used to play with a gamepad, it worked fine before, it had a lot to do with where you position your skills, so the important ones are only so far away, but it had more to do with the number of skills, and how you access them than AA or not AA. The only thing about AA that does irk me is using skills seems to make it's timer extend. If I use a skill like Jarring Strike when I'm just about to auto-attack, it does do the AA till after Jarring Strike is used which slows down the TP build, if I spam off loads of skills in quick succession it's rare an AA ever makes it into the middle. Usually AA is just something that goes on 'whilst your skills are happening' than 'whilst you're not using skills', so it confused me a bit when I first started playing.
Gamepad is a lot better for FFXIV or any FF series. I never been a Keyboard fan, its like 4 buttons for movement and like 4 button for camera, fudge that :P.
No wonder people sucked at BR, doing BR on keyboard is a lot of work compared to Button 1: Load, Button 2: Fire!

One of things that is also "Slowering" Auto-Attack (on purpose?) is the thing that when mob moves to right or to left, camera is same for my chara, but > Here starts the problem.
Chara is standing at different angle to mob - yet he is facing (looking at) mob - However, character is standing and is not attacking. Yet mob still attacks. You have to move to face enemy again to start Auto attacking.
Why ? Wasnt this problem with conjurers at the beginning of the game ? If you were looking at different direction with character selected you didnt cast the spell.
My question is (kinda aimed at devs), why do I do not attack enemy, when I have it engaged, selected and my character is looking at him ? If I would want to cancel attacking I would simply press ESC to remove selection from the target not with turning my back to it. This should be revised by my guess and it is quite major aspect in this AA thing.
like you said you like press 1 on the old system, try pressing other buttons on this current system.
dont know what your doing but i never run into a slow part of battle because im always pressing buttons either to buff or atta.ck.
