For crying out loud, I beg of you, give me some CHALLENGE!!!!!

Again, again, and again, I've posted on this issue. I am now well nigh convinced that SE wants a game easy enough to please the Maple-Story-&-Free-Realms crowd. Much as I have defended and supported Mr. Yoshida in this and other forums, I'm starting to believe that he has, indeed, too much WoW in his mind. I'm writing this with an urgent desire to be proven, or even told, wrong. Or perhaps I'm not, and we're witnessing a watershed moment in the FF series. In the meantime I keep on nodding during grind parties and levequest events.

I posted this in May/2011 and to this day, the feelings remain. I was in a full grinding party, with my r47 THM this morning and I felt exactly like I did when I wrote the post linked above. The same sense of futility came over me all over again. Only a few things have changed, perhaps the basic attack is no longer so overpowered, but that made very little difference in the fight. The party couldn't bring itself to care whether or not it was buffed, whether or not people died (out of boredom-induced distraction, mind you, not difficulty,) or whether or not we could keep the number of attacking mobs down to only one. Links or no links, each mob would barely pose the threat of our tank losing at most a quarter of his HP.

Another posting... earlier that month had made similar points, a bit more expansively.

Reading, in a recent interview, about Yoshida's idea that a desirable provider of excitement would be the possibility for players to run the entirety of a dungeon unscathed really scares me. Perhaps I'm not getting it, but I want real combat challenge in this game (ideally in a context that is pregnant with depth and full of environmental puzzles.) I'm not opposed to innovations and solutions, especially the ones that I am not able to fathom from description. I will readily test them all, giving them the benefit of doubt. However I've been doing that for a while, and the signals I keep on getting, and the statements I'm reading are now making me apprehensive.

Please use the like button if you agree with me in this, or add your comment below, so that, on this attempt, we actually manage to get the attention of the Devs.

    Last week.

Plenty of people agree, but will SE do anything? Who knows.

If you're looking for combat depth, you're playing the wrong genre of video games.

Meaningful/challenging/hard/difficult/etc combat cannot come until server lag is addressed.... which apparently isn't.

With mobs that are "Even Match" being in fact "Easy Prey" and an effective penalty for seeking out mobs that actually provide a challenge (Sp returns capping at mob dRank10) I largely agree.

I much appreciate your kind guidance, Sir Sigtyr, but I have been playing and writing about MMOs since the MMOs appeared on earth. As a matter of fact, I have played almost exclusively this genre for all the years I've been a gamer. I started with Ultima Online, and have played for a considerable amount of time each and almost every other major title in the genre ever published with server access from North America. I am referring exclusively to what I know to be the posibilities of MMO combat.

If you had you'd realize pretty much every mainstream MMO uses the same strategy.

    Tank n' Spank.

I remember in EQ a blue mob, which is under your level, is what your group would fight.
And seeing as you solo reds in FFXIV, well that alone tells you how they have structured this game.

I believe after analyzing the data, there much be statistics that show catering to casual players is more profitable for MMOs.

ffxi mobs had great depth, u had the chance to die in a regular grind group if u weren't doing u'r job, ie crabs and imps. u could die from mobs around the camps, u could die on way to camps, u could die from mpk lmao at start and really wish they will leave this in game cause its just funny. u had to do things to the mobs like dispel stoneskins or deaths are slow and everyone yelling at u Dispel!@@! please. u had to keep attention on u'r mp, u especially at first years did mb bursts and chains. debuffs, buffs, enfeebles all that lasted more then a second and mattered (though i think this is comming soon enought)

this is what makes a game, in other mmo's u can kill any and all mobs in the game and they all feel the same, there is absolutely no difference in what mob u'r killing your still just attacking with whatever moves and u'r healing maybe, or waiting for hp to heal. no real tactics in it at all and the only way to create any kind of tactics with that type of boss endgame is by positioning and that is all, u get the positions down and the game battle is won. from this dungeon we got i'm kinda worried but ...hopefully it was just something to keep us busy and they still plan on fixing all these problems. and se needs to remember those other games had good pvp in them so the crappy pve didn't hurt as much as it will hurt them.
