    Golden Saucer Housing Impact?

Does anyone know if any housing items will be useful to the new content in Golden Saucer?

This especially pertains to gardening and chocobo stables. Do the racing chocobos need a new stable or specially grown food?

Right now we're getting by with one garden and one stable on a small house plot. I don't want my racing hobby to conflict with our current gardening/stable needs. And, I don't want to get left behind if there is going to be another housing rush next week.

Here's a quote from the latest live letter translation that I think answers your question.

When your chocobo’s rank increases, you’ll be able to train it once by feeding it, and this will allow you to adjust your chocobo’s attributes. Chocobo feed for training can be obtained through gardening, or purchased in exchange for Manderville Gold Saucer points.

it has been said that there will be gardening involved with the racing chocobos, but it has not been confirmed whether it will use existing chocobo crops, or new/exclusive ones. I am expecting new stuff, but they haven't said it will be mandatory to feed the chocobos either. My understanding is that when your racer ranks up, it will gain random stat increases, but you may feed it after rank up in order to alter those increases. Read here for the source.

I honestly expect them to use the current choco feeds, possibly in addition to new ones. I could see the DPS food increasing acceleration, the healing power food increasing stamina, the enmity food increasing max speed, and the exp food increasing the racing chocos experience, if any. And, Krakka for training montages and Thav Onions for passing a certain experience cap. I also expect the choco dying food to still be used to dying racing chocobo feathers.

They could totally introduce new food, but I just don't see the point. We have three foods for three stats (healing, DPS, enmity), and I'm expecting racing chocos to also have three stats like they did in VII (stamina, acceleration, top speed). Mapping them just makes sense to me.

I guess we'll find out in four days!

I am willing to bet that the Color Changing crops will be used with dying one's racing chocobo.

Well, the point would be exactly what this thread is all about: people gaining an unfair advantage by stockpiling items ahead of time. This is largely the reason why whenever SE adds new recipes to the game they are crafted using new items added at the same time. They want as many people as possible to start off on the same foot. No one is going to win the Chocobo Racing lottery by correctly speculating ahead of time which existing items are going to be key to Chocobo Racing in the future.

I very much expect that racing foods are going to be all-new. I'd even go so far to say that NONE of the currently existing foods will have any part in Chocobo Racing.

It still won't be COMPLETELY even, of course; if the new food items are grown, then people who own gardens (or people that have ungodly amounts of gil to throw at non-racing gardeners in exchange for their shiny new veggies) will have a distinct advantage in Chocobo Racing over people who don't. There's only so much SE can do to level the playing field - but they WILL try to level it.

Sounds interesting tbh, I hope it ends up being fun

I hoping when it comes to breeding and raising a chocobo it will be more like the ffxi version of the baby chick. feeding it for a long time, nursing it back to health etc... oh and that face and music if you ever gave him up? lol so sad....

Will be curious to see about the raising at any rate as much as the racing.

Except you can trade in casino points for the foods that affect the racing chocobos, as posted above. So, if people stockpile, they're doing themselves a disservice since the choco feed prices will tank after the patch, just like with any item that you can get via an NPC for a fixed price. Assuming the same foods are used, that is. If they're new items, then the old ones will tank anyway because people will stop speculating in the market just in case they're used.

Just to clarify. This thread isn't about gaining an advantage in terms of items. I really just need to know if one garden is going to be enough to support 2 companion chocobos in addition to however many racing chocobos we're allowed to have.

Well, to answer that question as best we can right now: You can buy racing choco feed with casino points, so a garden may be unnecessary to support racing chocobos, if the prices are low enough. So, you are likely fine with one garden.
