Opinions on Disciples of Magic

I'd like to know what the community has to say about the current state of mage classes.

In my opinion, there are a lot of things wrong with them such as the unusual level requirements for certain spells, spell animation, the way ancient magic works, and the spell set for each job making them lack a defined role. However, for me the major killer is how every spell is AoE.

I've never seen main healing become so mindless in an MMO and the lack of MP management (and support style classes) only makes it worse. I feel like very little imagination went into magic use in general.

Thoughts?

Ah, I didn't notice it. Felt that this is something that just had to be discussed and never saw it on the front page.

No worries, it is an issue that deserves attention and discussion, so the more the better. I just didn't want the two discussions to take place in a vacuum.

Con sucks and Thm rules, but really both suck compared to what you should expect from them, although thm is very powerful for survival.

THM is far too overpowered as stated by most people. Something isn't right when you can solo half the NMs which are supposed to require 15 people.

Ancient Magic and Tier 2 nukes are terrible when calculating damage/mp cost ratio. INT and PIE are basically useless and don't create a noticeable change in damage.

Both classes should be made from the ground up.

I always felt DoM were underpowered. Compared to DoW, DoM aren't able to produce the as much DPS which I feel is terrible for something like a Conjurer, magic nuking class. Ancient Magic and tier 2 spells are grossly underpowered and the effects of Intelligence are minimal even at the attribute cap. Because of this, all DoM are basically forced into supporting roles for NM hunts.

However, SE have said they'll be doing work on adjusting classes and attributes in the future. We can hope the changes will make DoM more useful for damage dealing in party situations.
