Since it wouldn't logically require altering the data structure of the forum profiles themselves... If I had to guess, I'd say they're stuck somewhere in the code that reads character profiles from the Lodestone database. It doesn't sound like reading one more class/level should be that complicated, unless someone did something very, very, clever when they revamped the code for 2.0 and sorting it out has become a much bigger problem than anyone expected.
Not a developer (for SE, anyway), just a very well-traveled bystander.
