This is the process I used to achieve Snow White:
Feed #1 - Honey Yellow
Result = Honey Yellow
- Cieldalaes Pineapple x3
* It took 3 Pineapples before the "Grows New Feathers" message appeared.
Feed #2 - Cream Yellow
Result = Cream Yellow
- Doman Plum x4
* The feathers message either triggered at 3 or 4 Plums. I didn't write this "Feather" trigger down so unfortunately I don't exactly which but I'm 98.5% sure it was at 4.
Feed # 3 - Snow White
Result = Snow White
- Doman Plum x7
- Valfruit x10
* Fed 1 Doman Plum and got no "Feathers" message. Switched to feeding 10 Valfruit (each had the "Feathers" message) and then the remaining 6 Doman Plums (each plum triggered the "Feathers" message).
Total Fruits Used
3 Cieldalaes Pineapple, 11 Doman Plum, 10 Valefruit
*Note: Stable quality was "Poor" for all feedings.
So it was just a single message on your second feeding? So you actual result was:
x1 Cieldalaes Pineapple Message -> x1 Doman Plum Message -> x10 Valfruit Message -> x6 Doman Plum Message

Counting only the "Feathers Growing" messages I received yes you are correct. I do have to wonder in Feed #3 if I had started with Valfruit if I would have ended up with x7 Plum "Feather" messages for that round.

I'm gonna guess the messages completely based on RNG at this point.
Someone should confirm her transformation into Snow White using her number of "growing new feathers" messages.

It's my thought that this message is triggered each time a player slides into a Dye colour. I think if you don't see a message it might not necessarily be that your colour isn't shifting but that you're not shifting enough to hit one of the SE Dye colours.
I had this same thought yesterday, but there are many people who are posting no color change initially without a message. This might be one of two things --
1.) Desert Yellow is in it's own Dye color range, and it will not change unless you get a message. (Your theory.)
or
2.) New feathers message starts to slide the chocobo up and down the color slider, depending on what you feed it.
There have been a couple of post already pointing to 2.), people getting angry that they fed X number of berries and saw no color change, perhaps because they didn't get a new feathers message.

On my Feed #1 I started with only 1 pineapple and didn't get a message, right close to my 6 hour timer I was reading about the message on the forums, fed 2 more, got the message and bingo bango colour change.I had this same thought yesterday, but there are many people who are posting no color change initially without a message. It is quite likely that others could be overfeeding or the amounts of different food colours they are using are cancelling out one another.

I would say it's possible, but considering that people follow the exact same number of total feeds, I really don't think it is. If we get good solid data proving that dyes still can't be reproduced by using the same number of feather messages, then we're likely just stepping into RNG territory completely.
Also I just went from regal purple to plum purple using 18 valfruit. Only 2 got the feather proc. And I'm pretty sure it shouldn't take 20 valfruit to have the color change so slightly. It doesn't seem like it's sliding when there's no proc message.

I tried this and got the following results:
1x Pineapple message (1/3 worked - third succeeded) + x1 Plum message (1/1).
>> Six hour rest. <<
Result was Cream Yellow.
x10 Valfruit message (10/12 - first two no message) + Six Plum (6/6)
>> Six hour rest. <<
Result was Rose Pink.
I followed the guide two people had used for Snow White and didn't get it. So we're seeing a mitiating variable here. Either the timing of rest is pivotal or it's randomness thrown in to frustrate us. Could be that they cap in some way per rest but I just don't know. Any idea what I need for Snow White at this stage?

1x Pineapple message (1/3 worked - third succeeded) + x1 Plum message (1/1).
= Cream Yellow.
x10 Valfruit message (10/12 - first two no message) + Six Plum (6/6).
= Rose Pink.
x3 Plum message (3/3) + x3 Pineapple message (3/3).
@ 3hrs 38 minutes until he would be ready
x2 Plum message (2/2).
= Snow White!!!
I'm so happy with Rhongo's plumage (and he's rid of the gender confusion of Rose Pink).
