If it's going to use a scythe, it should just be MRD > DRK (dps). A number of axes currently have a scythe like look to them (the "Bills"), and the animations and moveset would work well enough with a scythe.IMO to make a Dark Knight Job. First we need a scythe wielding base class. I'd say the sub req either be LNC or MAR to 15. This would be a heavy armor DPS class with very high single hit damage on high delay with damage boosting skills that are also self destructive.
Atleast that's how I would implement it. Though I'd like role changing secondary soulstones like arcanist has for all the other classes currently in game. Though a couple classes I have problems finding a way to change the role but can change its play use a bit.
Marauder -> Berserker (dps)
Lancer -> Templar (tank)
Conjurer -> Geomancer (dps)
Archer -> Sniper (dps) Applies various debuffs via shots.
Thaumaturge -> Sage (healer)
Gladiator -> Fighter or Soldier (dps)
Pugilist -> Grand Master (tank)
Also I still want Fencer -> Red Mage... >.>
If they're going to make DRK come from its own class, it should be greatsword. Not sure if it's better as a dps or tank. It *should* be a DPS since it's thing is to sacrifice HP for power, but I'd want to main it and it's easier to get in groups as a tank.
oh, and GLD + THM (WHM cross class skills) = RDM
What about the sizable amount of people that want the DRK as it was in the first time, i.e with swords and/or greatswords ? FFT was released before FFxi you know..?Also a sizeable amount of players that want drk in ffxiv do so from playing the job in ffxi where drk had A+ scythe skill rating vs Greatsword's A- rating. Scythe also made darkness chains while Greatsword made light and... um.. we want darkness and evil looking stuff :P
And from a practical point of view, a scythe is a terrible weapon u_u
Bah, you people and you're lack of understanding how awesome a weapon a scythe is. It just needs the proper hand holds and curves in the shaft and a nice long blade. People will start to run in terror just seeing your wield one with chaotic grace.
Ahem, that aside. I'm all for greatswords too. While I loved my scythes in FFXI and Chrono Trigger (looking at you Magus <3 ) I'm not sure that they would be chosen to be a Dark Knight's weapon, not with this Dev team anyway. I think they are more likely to use a Greatsword or Bastard Sword type of weapon. I don't see them picking a single sword unless they add a Sword Grip item to be used (if Drk came from Gladiator) in the off hand slot to increase 1 handed sword damage potential. They would also need to really overhaul Gladiator's base ability animations once switched to Dark Knight (because they pretty much go perfectly with Paladin theme only); I wouldn't want to see a Dark Knight flashing with bright light.. doesn't fit the job.
Personally I would prefer it be derived from a new weapon type wielding class. Plus, come one, you gotta have that badass 2-handed huge sword user in the game. It's not a true fantasy MMO without one! *wink*
I personally wouldn't mind if they use a scythe; however, I think they'll have a bigger potential of keeping there roots as a DPS if they use the greatsword instead of the scythe here is an example.
1.) Great Sword: (Class: Knight)
Job # 1: Dark Knight (DPS)
Job # 2: Rune Knight (Tank)
2.) Scythe: (Class: Reaper)
Job # 1: Dark Knight (Tank)
Job # 2: Necromancer (DPS)
Know what's funny? The Demons in both XI and XIV that can wreck your face seem to use Scythes perfectly fine. Know what else is impractical? Gunblades, large clunky shields, Rapier thin blades (these are parry weapons, not attacking weapons) and so on, yet we still use them.
Greatswords or riot.
Didn't they use scythes in japan as a popular weapon in the past I don't remember what time era.
