These are usually localized as "Echo Drops" in other FFs. Will we see Echo Drops later, or are you guys just going with Throat Drops this time?

Oh, is that what these are? I wouldn't have guessed otherwise >.>
It might be to avoid confusion, since along with FFXIV's lore, Echo Drops sound like some kind of LSD-like substance that lets you view the past XD

Good question, Quantumsaint!
While their effect is similar, these are not the echo drops that appear in other games in the FINAL FANTASY series. The good man in charge of items for XIV decided way back before beta that he wanted to give different names to the antidotes currently in the game. When localizing the items, we decided to go with names that represented which part of the body they cured. Silence (in theory) affects the vocal chords, therefore "throat drops" seemed a good representation of what we believed the people in Eorzea would call such a medicine.
This isn't to say that echo drops, gold needles, and all those other nostalgic curatives won't be making their way into the game sometime in the future.
Perhaps if there were another tier of Silence (eg. Mute), Echo Drops could cure that later on down the line? ^^Good question, Quantumsaint!

To be honest, I was more confused by Echo Drops curing silence in the past than I am that Throat Drops cure it now. You'd think an "echoing" internal stimuli brought on by a medication would cure temporary deafness, not temporary inability to speak... Though, this may be one of those times I'm overthinking something by so many miles that the obvious resolution is too far back to be noticed...

You're forgetting this is the series that when you cast a spell named thunder, lighting comes down from the sky.To be honest, I was more confused by Echo Drops curing silence in the past than I am that Throat Drops cure it now. They'll be making their way in here for Chemists to use, in an AoE manner, even!
Come on Square, you broke my heart when you released Scholar on XI and it was entirely unrelated to items. Or scanning. Be a gentleman and mend it.
Now I am just daydreaming out loud.
