I wish we could help you find a family
I had a similar story, yet with a happy end. I went here and there between FCs falling apart and big trusts only interested in big numbers...

And then one day a random guy wanted to teach me and a few newbs how to do the Coil. We stuck together for quite a long time and decided to form a LS for european players in Balmung (which fell due to no activity outside Coil) with a core group united under the same FC flag.

We then gained a couple members, awesome people, and are trying to provide our friends (note : we do not consider our mates as FC members. we are a family) all that they need, and now we achieved to be a 11 players wide family (with a few bastard children who joined other FCs ^^) , having fun together and always up for a silly thing (last in date, we decided to go full naked tank in sapstacha. was fun ).

I really gope you find such a family soon Yumi. A crazy tanky healer like you definitively deserves it !

If not then you should change yourself first, and then look for a nice FC to join after.
Somehow, I find that a bit mean. Why should she change herself ? Therr is no problem with a tanky healer as long as the job is done. and friendly people are more important than anything.

This is a huge problem in modern mmorpgs, where the game gives you systems that does all the work for you on cross servers. The people you team up with through the DF, they mean nothing to you and you mean nothing to them. It's not possible to add people you team up with through the DF to your friend list, and it is not possible to add people you team up with through the DF to a list consisting of people you don't want to group with or be matched with in the future.

The ability to make friends through play is imperative for an MMORPG to have longevity with players. This is especially true, because of the grindy and repetitive nature of MMORPGs. You need to have people around you to do stuff with. MMORPGs are inherently social games, because the content in the genre is very rudimentary.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I'm not trying to be mean, but I will say this about friendly people. Friendly people stop being friendly when you can't clear content with them in MMOs. This is why a lot of people aren't very nice in pugs, and it's why many people refuse to pug content in MMOs. I know, life isn't fair. But ultimately MMOs are a team game and if you refuse to do what works best for the team such as spec for healing on a WHM it's going to be hard to make friends, especially if you refuse to join a static group or smaller FC where you can be tight with your people and play around with unorthodox builds. You won't make many friends if you go into a pug instance as a WHM with 30 VIT + VIT gear and confuse the people who are just there trying to clear the stupid fight.

FFXIV is not a very socializing game, but you could form a friend list. Everyone everytime could use a help (unless are doing roulette, which should not have a place in the endgame). Give people a hand and they will treasure you (if that is what you want). Of course unless you are solely a DoH/DoL player.

I feel you. I joined originally intending to play with like 2-3 people. An FC was kicked off with them, I jumped in, it was great... and then the first month passed, so many hyper-eager players felt like they'd done it all, then away went our FC leader, the FC dissolved, "hey most of us popped into this hyper-elite group"... >:

So I character transferred over to Adamantoise to join another FC started by other players I sort of new, found out they were an amazing crowd, and have been enjoying things a lot since. You'll find one eventually.

Not quite. The FC I'm in was started by me and a group of IRL friends (Who convinced me to play MMO's again) and some of their friends. When we first started in the beginning there were roughly 30 of us and about 8 more who couldn't get into midgard at the time so they went to Faerie. Two weeks before patch 2.1, I believe, that number dropped to about 5 active players daily lol. Those of us left thought about disbanding and joining another FC, transferring to faerie, or taking a break but we just stuck with it and tried to do content together as much as we can. It was like that till about mid February. Then we started meeting cool people in game and a couple of the friends we made had dying FCs so we absorbed maybe 3 small FCs it wasn't much, about 12 players total from all three. About a month later, our friends from Faerie decided to transfer and they brought some friends with them.

I'd still say we're a small tight knit FC, around 20 players on most of the time and we try to help each other out with everything. Low levels, crafting, gearing up, HM/EX primals, BC, and anything else. But we also have our days when FC chat is just silent for a few hours. We don't really care about personal skill level, all we ask for is a good attitude and don't be a douche to each other. We joke around a lot but we're not serious, if you ever find yourself in Midgarsormr, and if you're willing to have us, we have more than enough room for the lonely WHM.

Don't join a large FC if you want to meet friends. You'll get lost and forgotten, an easy example being your own experience. All the friends I made in FF14 were from joining LFGs for dungeons, Primals, etc. One of the closest friends I made was actually way early on in Duty Finder Amdapor Keep - you ask them if they're on your server, you talk to them, send them a friend request, run dungeons together... it's the same as making friends irl, really. I'd suggest joining friendly Linkshells rather than an FC - you'll meet more people and won't be committed to one group. Just try to be confident, don't let that FC represent all others.

Awaiting a response too. Just hoping it isn't that she is now a Tanky DD Mage.

Hopefully she finds a good group to run with.
