    Total Noob at DoH

Hey there guys. I want to get in on this, but like literally every topic in this subforum is way to advanced for me to get anything
I hope one or two of you guys can bear with me and help me out a bit.

First things first, my classes as of right now:

    Alchemist 33
    Armorer 50
    Blacksmith 32
    Carpenter 33
    Culinarian 38
    Goldsmith 34
    Leatherworker 50
    Weaver 34

I just today looked a bit into melding (for fishing though) and this forum is completely overloaded with too many "insider"stuff (especially seeing as I'm on a non-english client and have to look up a lot of stuff anyways) but much more of a problem than finding info on specific stuff is finding a good starting point.

I barely got a million gil (and most of that came from carbuncle stuff from ventures^^") and my crafting gear is basically not existent.
At first I thought I'd start by getting every job to 50, but that seems hard to achieve with my money and I'll probably end up with way below a million after that.

From what I see on the MB I suspect I'm not remotely close to getting to craft 2 star stuff and the like, but I'm not too interested in that right now.

As of now I'm just asking myself where to start if I want to make a bit of Gil with crafting in the future.
Stuff like rotations are fairly easy to look up (though so far it worked out with just using my cp effectively without any cross-skills, but I guess I could'Ve had a better shot at HQs with getting those), but I just can't find a good starting point and would be super happy if any of you guys could give me a general outline.

Basically I'm looking for something like this, if anyone would be kind enough^^ (the following is obviously made up)

"If I had your jobs I'd start by maxing XY job first to get YZ crosskill. You should by HQ xy-set to start off and meld materia / overmeld materia to hit AB stats and then just look through the market on your server which of the CD-items you can sell for a decent profit until you have enough Gil to max the rest of your jobs and buy EF-set. After that you can look at 1 star-guides"

(keep in mind I don't have any clue at all, so it might not even be possible for anyone to tell me something like that ^^")

Thanks everyone who bothers reading+answering and happy easter / nice sunday / nice monday

Edit: just randomly found talks about spirit binding items to make materia. Can't seem to find a guide on this though, only stuff about how to spirit bind the fastest (like a materia or HQ will speed up the process as well as those binding + 1 jewelry, but nothing much about which items you'd want to spiritbond to then turn into materia or which itemlevel/item class will yield which grade of materia^^). Is this still a worthwhile idea for someone with a low budged like me?

For doing HQ 2 star synths, probably the 3 most important crafts are Weaver at level 50, carpenter 50 and Alchemist 50. I'd recommend weaver first because Careful Synthesis 2 is very very nice. Carpenter has one of the most important skills for HQing, bryegot's blessing. And Alc has Comfort Zone for gear that's under melded for CP. Culinarian to 37 for Steady Hand 2 is a very good idea also.

As you're gearing and skilling up, another skill to take consideration of would be Tricks of the Trade (20 CP back for a Good quality node), though I find myself never using it lately, although I hear it's good for 3 star synths if your melds aren't perfect

For 2 star synths, the minimum melds you need would be 347 Craft, 340 Control, and about 370+ CP with food. Always use HQ equipment for these melds as the stat caps are higher, and do your level 50 class quests for the i55 tool.

And as for materia, ilvl 1-29 equipment gives tier 1, 30-44 gives Higher chance for Tier 2 with chance for tier 1, 45-50(need clerification) gives tier 3 with a chance for tier 2 and an even smaller chance for tier 4, and 55+ is higher chance for tier 4 with a chance of getting tier 3s. From my experience i70 always gives tier 4 materia

Finally for making money: I'm looking into 3 star weaver synths for an attempt to make some money that way, but I've been doing 2 star CUL synths in the mean time to get me some pocket change so I can gear up my Weaver (currently 358/348/344 while using the Artisan's Specs and not using Artisan's Needle)

One HUGE thing I'll recommend to you right now is: For your Armourer or Leatherworker, try gearing one of those up enough for 2 star synths, make 5 of the philo tome items (Darksteel Ingot for ARM or Hard Hippogryph Leather for LTW) and get the Artisan's Spectacles. They're the best hat you can get atm and give 3 Control more then a fully melded i55 hat. The best part is they can be used for ALL DoH jobs. The best accessories you can get also share this property so it makes gearing other DoH jobs easier

Thanks so far, trying to comment on your input a bit

First question is what does "under melded for CP" mean?

2 star synth seems far away, I'm not even close to 300/300/300 much less you stats atm, but I guess it's a good thing to aim for.

Thanks for the clarification on the materia's. Guess I'll try and look if that can make me a bit of money potentially.

For the Artisan's Spectacles I got to hit the stats that are stated in my crafter book, right? So I guess I'm gonna try and buy stuff that'll let me reach those stats (if my money lasts for that lol).

So basically my best bet for now is probably

    - try to make these Spectacles.
    - get weaver, carpenter and Alc cross-class skills.
    - hit 347/240/370 to make 2 star synths

in that order, right (not currently on, so not sure if I can even do spectacles before hitting those values, but I think so from your posting^^)? And probably look into materia via jewelry while I'm going for WP or something along those lines.

Thanks so far, got something to try and see how far I can get for now, and will report back
Also happy if there'S any more insight, be it from you or someone else^^

What I mean by "Undermelded for CP" is just that. There's a heavy reliance on food for CP in higher synths and even 1 missing CP could make a huge difference in the synth. Having Comfort Zone and using it at the very very beginning makes you use less CP over the synth then you normally would.

I'd say go for the cross class skills first so you can craft those mats, but the biggest issue I have personally with them is the reliance on Hasty Touch.

For melds there's 2 things I can recommend, Perfect melds or low budget (which are perfect melds for 2 star synths)

For perfect melds (for 3 star synths) I follow this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...80#post1273980

For low budget (for 2 star synths maximum) I followed this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Q-2-Star-Items

You can also look through the second thread for more advice

Okay, is this really worth it for me atm? To get all the Armorer's greens HQ without any materia I'd have to pay about 130k. The darksteel-ingots for the masters book amout to a whopping 375k. So that'd be half my bankroll just for those, materia still needed^^" the militia(?) off-hand would also be another 30k not to mention whatever mats I'd net for the spectacles :<

I've seen the 2 threads you posted, but they're too advanced for me currently :/ as mentioned above crafting 2 stars is not in reach yet unless I spend all the money x) is that still worth it?

The specs can't be melded, and you can't make money without spending money

And personally I think it's worth it. I've already got 2 of the i70 tools and working on my third. I really enjoy crafting and I'm usually the go to guy in my FC for crafting i70 HQ equipment or raid food. There's profit to be made, but you have to delve deep into the market in order to find it. Since we're on different servers (me being in a Legacy and you not being in one), I can't vouch for how different the markets are

Good luck on what you plan to do!

Allright, got all my equip (well, not everything, missing the earring and bracelet) but can't meld many of the materia. That'll be a lot of work to get there^^

Thanks a lot tho, will report back in a week or so when I could meld all those^^
