    My thoughts on Battle Reform {Jobs}

From what I gather we are keeping the same classes that a bunch of players thought were dry and just not fun. We are going to level till... lets say Level 20 then we get access to Paladin, Dark Knight, Monk, Thief, ect... We can at anytime be <Generic Lame Job> and "solo" or we can be <Said More Fun FF Job>. Now I don't know about the rest of the US community but this idea seems to be a potential fail. The new team has been up to this point pumping out amazing ideas adding in everything a new age MMO with a Final Fantasy theme needs. But the backbone of a MMO is its classes. You world, raid, quests, story, pvp, ect.. can be the greatest thing since slice bread.. But.. if your classes are bland and not entertaining then no one will keep trucking. I think the current community who have participated in the worlds longest Open Beta deserve more then a pat on the back but I don't think we should even consider keeping around the classes originally introduced into FFXIV. And to be honest I don't even see there role? Marauder is just a Warrior/Beserker, Pugulist is just Monk, so on and on. It would be like im a Marauder for soloing then I become a Warrior for party play?? Something isn't right.

I know its early and until a "Letter from the Producer" states this is how it is then we can't fully judge this. But there was a thread (located at bottom of this page) stating this is the current path for this system. That post was made 5/19/2011.

I'm not trying to attack your current plans Matsui. I just don't wanna see all the hard work not pay off.

    Original dev post:

"The job system - that series-defining trademark - will be implemented in FINAL FANTASY XIV (details such as specific jobs TBA). Quests to unlock each job will become available once you have reached a certain rank in the corresponding class.
Rather than being advanced versions of classes, we would like players to think of jobs as specialized playing styles optimized for partying. While playing as a particular job will render you unable to equip certain actions of other classes, you will be compensated with access to exclusive actions, which can be acquired through quests.

In practice, players will find the existing classes effective when playing solo or in certain party setups. Jobs, however, will shine in party situations where specific skill sets are demanded. Now, you didn’t hear this from me, but there are also rumors circulating that quests for obtaining job-exclusive equipment are also in the pipes."

I've already started a ton of threads about how this system is going to be boring and fail.

The end result will most likely be another overhaul in 6-10 months that just implements the FFXI job system back in place.

As an FF Veteran, And I am not even referring to FF XI, but all final fantasy's. This is the worst implementation of the "Job System" to date. But my only major gripe is the fact that I can't chose my favorite weapon for my favorite job, even if in past FF's it was a choice, it wont be one in FFXIV which makes it boring and less able to fulfill my nostalgia brackets.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I can actually see that happening eventually depending on how this all works out. Yoshi Did say recently that later on they would implement combined "Jobs" that sounds very Job/Sub Job to me. Maybe they are just doing it this way to get people used to the idea of Jobs and see the benefit they bring before they make the complete transition. At this point it does seem like the Job system is being done very half assed so maybe there is more to it.

I was kind of hoping that the class system redesign would be a little more dramatic than just solo mode vs party mode. Locking classes to one weapon is a recipe for disaster, as is keeping the old, boring, homogeneous classes is a recipe for disaster.

What does that have to do with anything?

My main character is not tied to this account. This account is tied to my original SE members account which is tied to my FFXI Account. It has an Active FFXIV character on it, but I have no need to display it and instead am using the character display to tell people I intend to play a Female Roegadyn once they are released. I do have a level 50 on my other FFXIV account, but even her I haven't played much lately.

as it reminds me more of FFT
Thats odd, Because in FFT I had an army of white mages roving the countryside with axes and various sub skills. Could heal anyone from across the map and dish out massive damage.

I loved FFT. Starting to wish I had been vocal in asking for an FFT based Job system instead.

Because that would've changed things. Honestly, you think of your own opinions far too highly.

I like this system, it'll let me level up a class and have access to a lot of different content without having to keep starting over (after they've increased the number of jobs, that is).

I do agree that the current classes need to have more character, though. Currently they feel too similar, but I think we'll see that kind of thing fixed with new animations and abilities being shuffled around.

Me too, i wish the "job system" would be like tatics.

It was a good system, and it worked great.

That remains to be seen, but so far I have to say that this game is looking more and more like XI 2.0 and that's not a good thing. I find it hilarious how people keep saying not to assume Haste won't be absurdly broken like it is in XI... when we have the very same devs who ran XI for 8 years working on this game. It's not like there isn't a good precedent to base my assumptions on.

The Job system, as proposed, feels like a big gamble. It could turn out to be really cool, or it might be epic fail. At the very least it should make organizing parties easier. I kind of like the way it is now though, as it reminds me more of FFT where you could mix & match abilities of all the job classes.

What we're getting basically amounts to official builds of each class from SE, or at least that's how it looks. We won't know until the update for sure, but I'm remaining skeptical.
