But this begs the question, is it fun because you are good at it? Or you are good at it because it is fun? Being good at something does NOT necessitate it being fun. And as much as I like to get better at things, fun or otherwise. Getting good at it should NOT change whether it was FUN to start with, because it should be intrinsically fun to start with.

Being good at something you enjoy is fun. Let's use the basketball analogy again. You play basketball you have fun playing but then you work at it and learned how to shoot fadeaways, dribble, etc. Now you have more fun because you feel like you got better and can do more things. Sure you can still have fun playing before you learned all those new things but I'm sure you would enjoy the game more now that you got better at it. Get it? This whole "I play for fun" thing never made sense to me. Not like the person that plays differently isn't having fun.

I always thought when you get better, you have more fun. I.E It's more fun to be able to kill Titan ex than not. When you put in work say playing basketball and get good at it or any sports, you have more fun. Games tend to work that way.

Not all the time. Some of my favorite moments is from wiping in a group. This past weekend, got relic done for BLM. Last one left and healer stuck in Gaol with aggro. So I just kept plugging away. Probably wouldn't have made it anyway in time for next Gaol, but it was fun trying. It was even funnier because someone jinxed me by saying, watch him solo the rest of it. Then bam MB. poorly timed attempt to get behind him before table flip ended the fun. But holy crap was it fun.

there are those in this game that are good players. there are those in this game that think they're good players. more often than not, the two are not the same. how a player defines fun in the game is completely subjective and there is no right or wrong answer. what's fun for one person may not be fun for another. hence why these forums are full of complaints about everything in this game from atma to being forced to do story line quests to nerfing content to asking for content to be nerfed. just because someone struggles to refine their skills to a level found acceptable by other players in the game doesn't mean they have any less right to play the game than anyone else. what makes a player good at this game is entirely up to each individual player.

Is it fun to drag down 3-7 other people for the sake of your own fun? Serious question since people tend to leave this one out. And I don't mean skipping cutscenes and the like.

This is the exactly the elitist attitude that is the problem. Who is being dragged down on the duty finder when some one is watching cutscenes for the very first time? Who is being dragged down when someone gets to a new dungeon that they have never been to before?

Why abuse the duty finder to do your speed runs and force 3-7 other players to play it your way? Who is being selfish here?

The best encounter I had was learning Garuda (not even the hard more or whatever) the first time. Doesn't matter that I went and studied the videos on youtube, or that the other players may or may not. We wiped over and over and finally it clicked for all of us together cleared with 5 minutes remaining. That was epic. Everyone had fun in that one and we all talk about it and laughed about it afterwards. So just what does dragged down mean? Everyone missed a dodge here and there and died, missed an add, lost a rock, etc. If we had 3 other very experienced players and we sped thru it, would it have left a lasting memory? Would it have been more fun? What fun is being dragged down, by having everyone learn in the process? Serious question here? It is NOT always about efficiency?

Good point! I know if I left a game for a while and came back to a whole bunch of DONT SUCK threads, I turn my happy ass around and find something positive to do.

If someone honestly has enough motivation to critique and complain every single time someone messes up, then they need to get a job or a hobby. Granted, I've made a couple laughs at some dumb mistakes that myself or other people have made, and I only truly get upset if the person in question is two wrapped in their own world to take some nice advice from someone with practice, but this is going a bit far
