    Mac client?

I was thinking about this when FF14 got put up on Steam. Here are some other really old threads with requests to having a Mac client (figure it's better than doing a necro bump).

Currently I dual-boot my Macbook Pro, so that I'm not limited to Windows only programs like this one. It would be very nice (and expand the market) if there was some native support for Mac.

I can probably guess the answer already, but now with some time passed, is there any plans in the near future to create a native Mac client? My gut tells me that there isn't any, but it would be awesome to hear that some thought has been put into it. I know there's the work to get PS4 support, and DX11, so even if it's a "maybe by next expansion," would be pleasant news to me.

I'm posting this in General for more viewer eyes, and maybe additional discussion. Thank you!

As I mentioned here, I also dual-boot my mac so that I can run programs like this one. It would be great to not have to use workarounds like this, and have some knowledge of possibly extending support for a native client. I know this option is not available for everyone for various reasons (not owning a Windows license, resources, etc.), and also a native client can be better optimized for the system.

I fear they will never look into it, no they will even make it ridiculous hard, to launch FFXIV with wine. There was a how to for 1.0. They patched it so wine wouldn't be able to launch it. There was a how to for ARR, but now you'd need to first log into windows, get your session ID and launch the game with the session ID whic is way more work than just booting into windows.

ugh. I want a mac client more than anything else on FFXIV ARR =.=

Just how much pain are you trying to inflict on us PC folk? We already have to play with PS users.

I am surprised. It's not only because the #1 MMO of all time and potentially #1 MMO of 2014 launched Mac OS native. (World of Warcraft and Elder Scrolls Online, for those who live under a rock. ) It's also because Yoshi-P himself said in a Feb 2013 interview they had ARR running on Macs in their offices. I was more hopeful than usual that a Mac version would see the light of day.

Yoshi-P even showed the game running fairly well on a Surface Pro 2 in July (Intel HD 4100). It benchmarked 2570 for medium, 720p. That's not great, but all current and many older Macs are at least as capable.

That's cute. First mac users think they matter. Now they're trying to game!

I'm playing on Bootcamp too. But doesn't come for free, you have to buy a separate Windows license.
FFXIV works great on my old 2009's Mac :P

Mac gamers are generally more strategy/sim focused. Like Civilization or sim city.
Might not be worth it to invest in porting a game of this expense to run natively as only a fraction use Macs for MMOs. But I see no logical reason for players to be against it.
