    FFXIV for Mac?

I didn't know where to put this so I guess here will do. I currently own a MacBook Air and have boot camp with Windows 7 on it and on the windows side I'm running FFXIV Great. It heats up my MacBook air, but with cooling pad I playall day long on standard Laptop settings. Even though this is working fine I really wish there was a Mac version of the game. With FFXI I understand because not many people have Macs, but now a lot of people do. Before all the Mac haters come out, I own a PC Desktop as well but I don't like to just use the desktop all day. Plus you can bring in a lot more people to play if your offered a Mac version. I can't say I know how hard that would be, but doesn't seem like it's an impossible task. Plus games like WoW had Mac support and since every MMO now a days likes to take WoW as a template, wouldn't it be nice to include a Mac FFXIV?

I wouldn't mind seeing an OS X version, but I don't think Japan knows how to OS X. Does FFXIV work with WINE?

Wouldn't mind a Linux version but EVERYONE seems to forget about us. We are lucky enough to have been thought of by Sega for Football Manager 2014.

while there at it might as well do a linux build if there going to pull a mac build sense cross compiling from one to the other isn't that bad.

There is not a big enough market for companies to focus on a nix build for specific games.

FF14 uses dx9, that just does not port and using WINE does not give ideal results either.

And there are several differences between BSD and Linux flavors. So much that a recompile won't cut it.

You do realize that ffxiv is also win / ps3 soon to be ps4 right (why i mention that ) ps3 uses PGL which is a modified version of open gl.. Which both mac and Linux use.

second off they do not need to target all distro's just one Ubuntu (same distro that steam targeted.) Third the differences between mac and linux while mac is free bsd fork linux is not. They share a same common ground. Hence why alot of linux build tools actually work on mac.

last i checked theirs over 20 + million people that use ubuntu alone. Also humble bundle and other developers have are targeting linux..
Even AAA games Cough metro last light and so forth. Not going to turn this into a what to support and not just there is a market a very very lucrative one in the linux world.

Then focus one one Linux Build I.E Ubuntu. Problem solved. as for "There is not a big enough market for companies to focus on a nix build for specific games." You would be surprised to be honest. If you put all Nix users together. Regardless of which distro they use. I know the number Is not to much different from the amount of OSX users out there. BSD and Linux are rather similar and the code wouldn't be hard to implement. Just that the code Mac Ahem Darwin uses Is all closed source.

Linkdx, what video card does your MacBook Air have? I have one as well but everywhere I look says FFXIV won't run on my intel4000.

Nobody wants to make a Unix build of a MMO because that makes game hacking incredibly easy. That said a Mac OS X port is not "a Unix port" , developers don't like building games for Linux, because Linux itself is a moving, fragmenting target that would cost more to support than a Windows version. To support Windows you only need to test against Windows Vista, 7 and 8. To Build for Mac OS you only need to test against the last three OS X versions. To test against Linux, you have dozen different distros of different ages with different window managers. It's the same reason developers build for iOS first and only begrudgingly build an Android version if there is a demand for it. The latter is more expensive to support.

Given the option, SE would probably not even be making PC versions if the entire "MMO" player base wasn't on PC.

The game doesn't have any anti-hacking provisions, so it should be able to work on Wine if you really really want to put effort into it
