I see this;
And think of the original crafting system in 1.0, where you'd craft the parts then use them to craft the gear (similar to the i70 weapons, but more than 1 part) and that leaves me wanting the ability to craft unique gear.
Have a selection of different parts for each piece of gear, similar to 1.0, and let us combine them in various ways to create something "unique" to act as a sort of uniform for your Free Company. For example;
You have a body piece, you pick what the main body is (light/medium/heavy), then pick something to customize the design (plate/chainmail/etc?), add sleeves from a selection, shoulder armor, coattails? Cape? Perhaps ornate parts to decorate it? Could do a lot with it, mostly for body gear but still a few options for helm/hands/legs/feet. You'd just craft the parts regularly, then put them together in the not-Aetherial Wheel thing to preview and craft the final gear.
Honestly, if crafted gear is only ever really going to amount to vanity pieces come endgame, you could at least go all out and make gear crafting a modular thing to give us full customization over it with that fancy basement crafting station. Designing and creating a Free Company Uniform seems like the next logical step between making a house and airship construction.
