    Which would you rather play?
duh! FFXIV......:P jk of course. What you wrote got me thinking:

There is no sense of danger or exhilaration and there is nothing to explore because the minimap will spot anything and everything before I can see it with my character.
I don't think they'll ever get rid of the mini map but I personally don't mind it I hardly notice myself using it, if I even use it at all, I honestly don't remember it might be an unconscious thing but either way I was thinking I kind of dislike how all mobs are marked agro/non-agro. I think its good for the low level zones, you know while people are learning the ropes but I think for the higher rank zones they should keep the mystery in it and allow us to find out for ourselves. Although this isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things because eventually we will all know what agros and what doesn't, it still adds a little feeling of danger the first time you reach a new zone. Aside from this, is it only me or was there more emphasis placed on agro in FFXI? such as mobs that agro'd magic, mobs that agro'd sound, mobs that agro'd by vision...I think all mobs in XIV agro by vision am I wrong? I think mob behavior is important to just throw to the back shelf so I hope they have something nice planned in this regard.

Let's try to get through the weekend, everyone! Hopefully soon, we'll be acknowledged. The army of support behind this thread cannot go unnoticed. There are even crowned threads without as many followers after they've been visited by reps.

Thanks every one, for standing up for the game and what this world, Eorzea, can be.

I won't let us be unheard.

This is the first thread I've felt strongly enough about to post in, and although I don't have anything significant to add, I do want to say it is nice to 400+ posts in this thread with no major arguments or derails. After reading the OP I was a little disheartened, but after seeing so many positive responses and plausible suggestions (read the whole thread), I am certainly more optimistic that something can/will be done. I am looking forward to the official response to the outcry. Maybe they are taking the weekend to form a carefully considered response? I just hope we don't get the usual, "We have plans to address this, please look for more information in the future", blanket-response we have grown accustomed to.

Although there is a lot of merit to this thread and the suggestions therein, at some point you have to ask if a linear approach to "adventure" is the best approach.

While I don't doubt that I will eventually "run out" of things to do, the game gets a bad rap so far. To imply it "falls flat" is absurd.
It's not that absurd considering a) Still F2P after 9 months. b) 90% of the threads in this forum are about how bad the game is, so the community can't all be wrong can it? and c) Yoshida has said himself the game is in a state of rebuilding because they just don't think it's up to par; or even close to it.

Maybe after r50 things get dull, but right 1-50 is awesome so far, and I haven't even seen Ishgard or much of Mor Dhona.
The first R50 I got I will agree was an awesome experience. From that point on it was just 30-50 doing 3 leves with a static group. That is the only way to efficiently level. I am now on my 7th R50 and it is just as dull as my 2nd R50.

I'm sorry I haven't gotten high enough to have come back to these places 100 times over, but when you first arrive in them, they are fantastic and provide plenty of adventure for a Final Fantasy IP style game world.
I will agree that when you first get to a new place it's exciting, but the same can be said for any game. Discovering the unknown is a huge driving force in games. I will however disagree that XIV provides anyone with "adventure" and almost all other FF IPs provide it on a much larger and in-depth scale compared to this game.

Their games are crazy, nonsensical, and difficult, which is part of why I find them so endearing.
At the moment, XIV is none of these.

I guess I'm also the "elitist" type who only likes things when they aren't popular.
That has nothing to do with being an "elitist". That is actually the definition of a Hipster.

I have already had more adventure here than I ever had in WoW - and it's the most popular MMO of all time.
I find this incredibly hard to believe as there are more quests in WoW than 5 FF IPs combined. There is more lore and more exploration in it too. Vanilla WoW released with more content and great content than XIV has. Unless you were literally just sitting in Org all day leveling up your tailoring, I don't see how you could honestly say this.

There was hardly much diversity until you started ranking up (not leveling, but the ranking system) or at least passed level 50.
San d'Oria > Ronfaure (Forested highlands) > La Theine Plateau (Grassy plains) > Valkrum Dunes (Tropical beach) > Jeuno (Central city) > Qufim Island (Snow drifted coastline) > Kazham (Wild Jungle) > Crawlers Nest (Underground crawler dungeon) > Quicksand Caves (Desert Dungeon) > The Boyhada Tree (Huge dungeon located inside a massive tree) > Kuftal Tunnel > (Underground mine/dungeon) > Ru' Aun Gardens (sky).

    Vs.

Ul'Dah > Black Brush (desert) > Horizon (desert) > Nanawa Mines (desert mine) > Nophica's Wells (desert) > Broken Water (desert)

Did you level in FFXI with a blindfold on?

Lol you need to look up "hipster," because that's not at all what it means. Like, not at all.

Ul'Dah > Black Brush (desert) > Horizon (desert) > Nanawa Mines (desert mine) > Nophica's Wells (desert) > Broken Water (desert)
Again, this leveling path assumes you did nothing but leves and behest as I implied and never left one zone. My path was more like Black Brush (desert, could be compared to Gustaberg) > Skull Rock (Grassy Plains, could be compared to La Thiene) > Cassoipeia (Misty Caverns, can't think of an FFXI reference) > Nanawa (Mines, Quadav or Orc mine area) > Tun Yuy Cellars (Dungeon Cellars/Sewers, again no reference).

You are admitting here that the first run to 50 is awesome. To me this means the game will soon need an expansion, not to be completely gutted and redone... which is what I am saying.

Matter of opinion. WoW zones were cartoons, with no real accomplishment either. They were linear, point A to point B zones. I even read quest text. And it leaves a lot to be desired. The only reason WoW was fun for me was because I had friends playing it.

It is all of you have have the blindfolds, staying too linear and hanging out waiting for something to happen.

Anyway, keep ragging on the game. I'll continue to have fun playing it. Respond if you want, but all these threads do is bring me down. I'm now remembering why I hate game forums.

A lot to be desired...? WoW at launch had hundreds and hundreds of quests, both class specific, story depth, and just run-o-the-mill adventure. The landscapes in WoW were varied and distinct, I remember getting to a place like Feralas and just having to stop because the beauty stopped me in my tracks. Not because it was 'omg look at the polygon count, awesomegraphicz' but because the zone flowed so well. The ancient high elven ruins, gnarled roots, trees so huigh that you could not see the tops or the sky, a winding path stretching across a town, along side waterfalls and a sheer cliff. In one zone you have things you cannot find in FFXIV: Landmarks, drastic diversity, a sense of adventure, ruins and landmarks with LORE behind them, dozens of NPC's with intertwining questlines, roaming bosses that pose a challenge, instanced dungeons for higher ranks, etc. All of this in a single zone. And what I've read/heard of XI, shared a similar trait in the diversity, and adventure and feel it provided.

No accomplishment? You mean like maxing out a class and having nothing to do but level another? Oh wait... That is your definition of accomplishment? Vanilla wow was released with an incredible amount of content for its time, and for our time too since many people think XIV launching without anything is alright because its a 'new' mmo. This is why you silly people who are like r20, or 30 should hit cap before you try and argue points with people who have 50 jobs. Any game can seem awesome if you only played for 6 hours, hell there was a time where I though Paint was a video game and i used to tear it up!

enough hijacking, this thread does not need a flame war! Yay, zone diversirty, /free bump!

Thanks so much for creating this wonderful topic. This really captures the feelings that alot of us have. Final Fantasy 11 was really something special and I hope that this game can one day live up to that!

Sometimes I don't even know why I come back to these forums. Whenever I think about what this game could have been given the experience they had with XI, my heart cringes in pain. Just thinking about the first time I discovered there's a basement level in Jeuno that leads to Qufim and it's snow-covered wormholed Giant-infested frozen coastline I shed a tear.

DAMMIT IT'S UNBELIEVEABLE THEY FAILED SO COMPLETELY.

    I just don't get it.
