Why do I take AOE damage out side of red circles?

Ok, I've played plenty MMOs and I understand that getting the heck out of "the bad" is always a huge part of MMO boss fights. And then I met Batraal... For anyone who's done Dzemael Darkhold, who'll know who I'm talking about. This giant boss has an AOE cone move that insta-kills you. Which wouldn't normally matter, because again, I'm not an MMO noob and I know that you move when you see bad stuff on the ground. The issue is, I was still being hit and dying even though I was a good distance out of the red. This wasn't just a couple times either... it just kept happening over and over. It felt like if I didn't react IMMEDIATELY, I would get hit regardless of whether I was out or not. We ended up killing the boss, but I had to be so super careful when destroying the crystals that I couldn't even do my job properly (DPS) and I still ended up dying during the last phase for the same reason.

Ah, well, that sucks. I hope they fix it, because it's really frustrating when you can't contribute to your group for reasons that are not your own.

If the problem is on your end then don't count on SE fixing it. There's nothing in FFXIV client that compensates for bad latency.

Some things to check:
- If it's video performance related, try reducing graphic settings.
- Connect directly to your modem to see if you have same issue.
- Check your ping -t to the server, make sure you're not losing packets. If there's packet loss contact your ISP.
- Some ISP throttle FFXIV, post your ISP and location on this thread http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ttling/page149 and just hope SE contacts your ISP.

This happens to me when I'm on my wireless laptop, when I switch to my wired desktop it's perfectly fine.

Yes, haha. I see that from the link Kraggykor posted. On one hand, it's nice to know that it's a known issue. On the other hand, if it's caused by having to connect to Canadian servers (I'm in GA), then it will likely never be fixed. It's going to make for some frustrating end game for me, I'm sure.
