Dear Devs, you wanna perfect healing spell balance? Easy!

Please, allow instant cast for healing magic! ... at least for Conjurers / WhiteMages :P.

Actually, ther are only like 2, of around 20, useful CNJ / WHM abilities those are any effective in dungeons or at Primal battles ...

Some of poor PS3 users I know who are doing healing jobs are restlessly overstrained now: they have to heal the tank, need to keep party members alive AND heal themselves at same time while, gaining the most enmity, dodging any mob spam and imba AoE spells/skills!

And own AoE skill are waaay to long to cast and basically imposible to cast most of the time :/.

No wonder that no main healer wanna to go help fight through those instances anymore!

Don't take this reply as a 'How to play your job', but I have to disagree. While not all of the WHM abilities are used, they are on par with other jobs. Cure 3 might be my only grip and that even has its uses. Besides Titan past phase three WHM is a very useful DPS through entire fights. Instances like CM allow a WHM to shine, I DPS more then heal there. Not sure how playing on a PS3 is but I use a gamepad on PC and prefer it. Allowing instant Cure cast would make a WHM too good tbh. If I could stay in Cleric Stance and in a matter of seconds turn it off to pop a Cure 2/Regen rotation and go back to DPS something would be wrong.

I guess it comes down to play style. I grind my teeth when on another job and watch a WHM sit with near full MP just healing when he could be Holy bombing the adds or even Medica II tanking adds themselves. There are dozens of examples for Holy use that make or break runs or shave time off speed runs.

Forgot to add length of Holy cast. If I am Holy bombing a group of adds the duration of stun requires me to wait a few seconds between Holy casts already. So length of Holy cast is not an issue really. If you were to cast Holy as fast as you could, you would only be stunning the mobs every other cast.

all the summoner / arcanists do have their pets to eat up any enmity or spammed damage.

Only WHM / CNJ classes are pretty unbalanced right now, 'cause they get all the enmity
basically anytime, they are annoyed from all the damage to cast any heals ...

Please, fix that! We need instand healing fo WHM class / CNJ job !

It can happens if the tank forget to build enmity on a mob of the pack. Thats pretty rare, and its tanks fault.
Try to use less skills, unless you know that a big dmg is comming, people dont need to be toped of health.

You already can cast healing spells instantly. That's what swiftcast is for. If you need it more often than that, either you or the party is doing something wrong.

Now I'm curious. Have been a gamepad user on the PC and though it has been a steep learning curve, has been very enjoyable.

But now I'm wondering what it's like on the PS3? Is it more than just the gamepad that needs to be overcome? (Like would a 2.5 second GCD act more like 3 seconds?)

Only if they remove GlobalCoolDown timer for Swiftcast, healing spells would be availale for instant performance :P.

In all boss fights (and actually any fights, even in dungeons) it is possible to start curing before the tank takes hit and cure the HP back up immediately without the HP even going down.
One of the main skills a healer in any game needs is the knowledge of the enemy so you are ready to counter every move they throw at the party.

that was a pretty ignorant statement. Do you even conjure, bro? If your having problems healing in primals, then that's on you, not the game.

I haven't played my Conjurer up that high yet, but so far healing has not been an issue.

Up to this point it's all about handling when and how to heal.

Sure it happens every now and then that I get some Mob attention but having a proper tank help, get your character close to the tank without getting caught in AOE and have the tank pull the attention away.

I think the main issue a lot of people have is that they cannot balance the DPS and healing to a level where they can do damage and heal without pulling mobs.

From what I have learned from my more experienced FC members is that tanking gets easier die to the new skills given later in the game.
So I would assume with this info that pulling agro would become harder for the healer.

Try not to over heal, and keep DPS balanced, both for threat and for mana consumption.

It is not about hard or easy, it's all about Fantasy Fantasy alike game which shall be playable!

See, in most triumphant Final Fantasy series game there is ATB system implemented and works just fine.

In FFXIV words that means: you basiically have GlobalCoolDown as time sink and MP cost as 'action payment'.

Now, WHY is there Casting Time involved? Please, give one a reason for practical purpose of that!

The only healing skill for WHM I find pretty much a lack of using is Cure 3 only cause the aoe effect if its on the tank the rest of the members have to be butt close to get it.

P.S You can interrupt mobs/boss casting. Yes they DO cast SKILLS. AlBhedMoog you obviously haven't got very far D;. Its called Ifrit, Chimera, etc. Casting time allows more skill to be involved in playing and rational thinking on certain situations.

Quit trying to make the game require 0 skill. Kthx.

Already at 420+ on Spell Speed. Not really helpful at all :/.

Their cool downs are not crazy long. I have over 465 skill speed you notice a huge difference especially on WHM. 420 you are probably either in DL or AF.

Swiftcast is really good for Raise/Ressurection, that take very long to activate and sometimes you do need it quickly, but I don't think it's wise to spam healing spells because you pull hate to yourself and that would only get worse with Swiftcast having no GCD.

And maybe I didn't understand well, but isn't ATB much like the GCD? I mean, I've played many games with ATB and they were like a bar telling how much time your character have to wait to take next action.

And like someone else said, enemies also have GCD and casting time.

Final Fantasy 4 had casting/charging times for all spells and skills. Final Fantasy 8 required you to wait for your Guardian Forces as well. Final Fantasy X-2 (As much as people hate it) also had spell cast/skill charge timers. Final Fantasy 12 as well, though if I remember it right, they were all the same.

Ergo, cast times is absolutely nothing new for the Final Fantasy franchise. :p

Tbh, I think I am not really understanding what you are saying because removing cast times from heals surely can't be what you are saying... How easy would that make things? Sure you mean something else..

Did you actually lvl to 50? because there are a lot of mobs that cast things, and all DoM have cast times. I really appreciate the cast times because I can cancel a heal if I think either a) it's not needed because yay mitigation. or b) oh shi~ I'll pull aggro if I heal now, I think I'll just stoneskin or eye for an eye instead.

As is with regen and benediction, and as healers should have swiftcast and surecast(mostly for ifrit/titan HMs) the cast times should rarely be a problem.

There is a reason Quicktongue materia is so expensive outside of the relic quest and alchemy 50 quest.

It's called SOS learn to use it. Not only does it reduce your threat but you also get mana back

Comparing an online game to a not online game is silly cause they are simply way too different. So lets compare the other online FF game that being FF11. Cast times existed AKA not a new thing.

I am most confused when you think all the CNJ/WHM abilities are not used. Big AoE hit but you don't want to/can't run in for a medica then hit Presence of Mind to speed up your single target heals or hit Divine Seal to make them worth more or hell both if it is that OH KITTEN kinda moment. Holy = Amazing. Benediction has its uses. SoS = Amazing. Repose = Amazing. SS is kinda lack luster but easy to put on between fights and it does help a little. Cleric Stance = Amazing.

By the way, just for the notice, yet again:

GlobalCoolDown and MP costs are just fine. Only thing that is a real issue, is Cast(ing) Time;
any (Disciples of War) are mainly not bitching aroud that 'cause they rarely use those spells for healing and
they basically on another kind of duty ...

Well, any of the high-end Dungeons and Primals right now are just waste of time and not even worth it :/.

Pick a fight with any Elemental Sprite in the world. Their cast times are very quick, but they're definitely there and can be interrupted with a well-timed Fluid Aura or Repose.

Other examples is Ifrit with Eruption and Hellfire, Garuda with Aerial Blast, Titan with Earthen Fury, Landslide and Weight of the Land, (Dhorme) Chimera with Voice of the Ram, Voice of the Dragon, The Ram's Keeper, The Ram's Breath, The Dragon's Breath and The Scorpion's Sting. Treants with Canopy and Arboreal Storm, Golden Fleece with Aero, Cure and Stoneskin...

Really, you must've done some damn fishy levelling or hidden your cast bars to never notice cast timers on enemies.

It is the non-instant that is allowing the PS3 users to stay in sync... if they made our heals "instant" without global cooldown/etc, they wouldn't have enough time to cycle to the right target compared to mouseover.

(that.. and our cast times would be so fast, you'd see a troll thread about us needing more mana within 2 days, lol)

I think WHM is the best class/job in the game. Love and use all job skills to the fullest.

Yeah let's just take away cast times on healing abilities.

Why not take away cast times for casters too? That's not very FF like, not fun for the BLMs and SMNs, I play for fun not to stand still.

Hey let's make melee attacks hit from 20 yalms away as well, my sprites in FF1-6 did it, this game should be more FF like.

LOL your comment amuses me, you want an instant cast get a THM to 26, or roll a scholar 3 stacks of atherflow and Lustrate! GG there is your fix reroll!

youre plan wrong. I play scholar and i can do all these things easily in the hardest raid in the game, Coil. As for WHM they are very powerful. Heres a tip, get quickcast.

No, no no no. NO.
We don't need more insta cast WE already have Benediction and Swiftcast is on a 1 min timer. That is more than enough.
I love managing my enmity and I love estimating and planning with my cast times.

Changes to mechanics like that would make a lot of fights totally trivial. I like a challenge, thank you very much :)

I think White Mage spells either need a noticeable shortening of the cast times. Or make Spell Speed do more then lower the global cooldown... Maybe both the Global cooldown and cast time. Also Spell speed scales very poorly in late game and except for Presence of Mind White Mages have no mechanic to lower cast time itself and PoM is not spammable it has a five minute cooldown. I have full DL armor and accessories and my relic. And when I heal for FC mates base cast time for Cure 1 and 2 is two seconds, Cure 3 is 2.5 seconds and raise is 8 seconds... Yeah, cast times should have a stat mechanic that allows me to shorten it. Now grant it raise is useless against Titan as the person will only die on the next Tumult but that's not the point of this post.

What? Those cast times you stated are base cast times before spell speed is factored in. If you are in fact in full DL+relic, take a good look at your cast times because they will be less than full cast time/gcd as spell speed affects both cast times and the gcd.

At first I thought this post was a joke. I pride myself on being able to heal the party, heal myself, move out of AoE's and if I'm not feeling lazy, Cleric Stance and DPS a bit. In fact it gives me a bit of an ego, especially in Titan HM. WHM is fine. And if you're really having to blow a ton of heals, your party isn't doing it right...
