Save our pugs dignity.

Please, we're not pirates and we're not some kinda of masochistic leather-bound fighting force! Please give us some kind of appropriate armor design that isn't based of Black Beard and crew or the local slave and master sex shop.

Please! A little dignity in our fighting apparel!

PLG = Playboy pitfighter! They can dress like this...put some shirt, some blackglasses, a tight leather pants, lots of jewelery and way to go! o/

But seriously...i like PGL looking...at least for female characters! ^^ The thing is that we can say that pug can be seen as a grunt, bodyguard, pitfighter, etc...its not a martial arts fighter so those fancy equipments monks use doesn't fit the class. You see...if i was to dress PGL accordingly to its background i'd end in something similar to Super Street Fighter IV's Dudley. You can see fis outfit fits perfectly any of the "roles" of the class.

LOL! But then how would you dress him like? I think some fancy coat and some ellegant looking would fit the class the best...after all the Platinum Mirage is a casino...and PGL's are the dude how go charge money and beat the hell out of those who can't pay what they owe to the casino. =P

And if you think they're also Ul'dah's army, its still NP...is Scotish army can use skirt to fight, why would we deny Ul'dah army for using subligar to fight =P

The Pugilist look is fine, since we have an evasion focus our armor should be minimal to allow us mobility. Shirts, Jackets and Harnesses work fine for this and give us a distinct look if anything.

I like the current looks too but need to be more Monk oriented too, since pugilist are the martial arts fighters of this game and I don't really care what their name is, they are clearly intended to be Monks.

IMO they are not martial arts fighters ^^: Just because they use hand-to-hand doesn't mean they are martial arts fighter.

Also, monk is one of the top classic classes of FF...its like paladin, black mage or dark knight...it WILL be an advanced class. Hopefully it will not only use h2h but also stuff like feet, poles, nuchakus, chains and other blunt damage weapons! ^^

I will say again what Ive said in another topic.
Pugilist are meant to be the H2H combat class that exist in other games with different names.
Before they say that Monks are gonna be in, Pugilist was what Brawlers - Scrappers - Monks - Bruisers are in other games, name doesn't matter, it's the class that was intended to be that matters.

That's why I want them to be more Monk oriented with kicks etc (remember actual Kicks where added much later to Monk's arsenal in FFXI too even though they had moves like "Combo").
I am just saying that this class should play and look more like Monk and not Thief, unless they have a plan to branch these to classes later (much like Warrior and Paladin from Gladiator for eg).

I want to wear Ryu's bandana, I wanna wear Kempo Gi, I wanna wear Black Belt etc and I like to Hit things with my fists and legs, that's why I chose this class as my primary class.

And BTW this is not Ranting, this is what I expect (and hope) from a H2H class to be.

Personaly I think the hard leather armor is a good looks for this class. I do not see pugilists as monks, and the game does not portrate our class this way either. In my opinion leather outfits are better for the looks on fighters such as pugilists of FFXIV. As Lienn mentioned pugilists are working out of a guild that works as a casino. That is a not a place for a monk.
Monks suppose to help out and talk about piece in time of war, and based on the class rank 20 and 30 leves that you do for Platinum Mirage, Pugilists are nothing about piece.

What I would like to see is addition of more foot wear that looks like knee high boots or above the knee high, or as Armored Caligae. The shoes that are available for R40+ armor do not appeal to me at all. Besides, if we were to get some moves that will envolve us kicking, I rather hit something in a head wearing footwear that has few metal plates on it.

I know that pugs are portrayed as bouncers in this game, but if they are going to evolve into Monks I would like to see matching gear.

I'd bet they won't become monks. I'd say monk might be the/one of the advanced job(s) unlocked by PGL, just like thief also has a potential chance of coming from pugilist. I'm sure monks will dress accordly, using black belts, gis, shaolin robes, bandages or any other "martial arts" clothes they should need.

However, the correct is to assume that there will be PGL and monks, not being like those promotion trees some MMO use, because FF serie usually keep the previous classes/jobs even after new one was unlocked, which is very good IMO...i always prefered stuff being added than replaced.

If they will go with class change/growth where you can evolve into a monk or other possible choices ... I suppose I would be okay with shaolin robes. But please no karate/judo style kemonos. That would look just wrong in this game. Not to mention completly off wordly to Erozea :P

Still personal preferance is leather though for me. Just looks much better then some cloth.

Don't forget that Monks could wear leather in FF11 too.
If you've seen the Monk gear in FF11 then you know that Monk "Robes" are very nice looking gear, nothing like Shaolin stuff (which I don't like either).
They would totally fit in FFXIV world, dont forget that Pugilist leather looks right now, is almost exactly like the FFXI monk, the only difference is in the Prirate looks, but we all should know by now that these are temporary - early level looks and not something class defining.

Also remember the Dark Knight - Black mage artworks in FFXIV?
They look like their FFXI counterparts but with more detail, I am convinced that Monk-Pugilist will look like that also, unless (like the other guy in previous post has already said) Monk is gonna be a new Class and not an evolved Pugilist.

On my pugilist I wear a Leather Subligar black, Toadskin Harness black, and Leather Espadrilles black.
I rather like it =x
The subligar grew on me, though I hate the two lower level ones.
What I would like to see though is the next level up on subligar have inner thigh covers, and maybe kneepads, or leather knee covers? Hell, maybe even have covering in the fashion that the leather does now (with uncovered areas here and there, or buckles), but all the way down the leg down to the shin? I'd hope if they did that though that they would keep it rather skin tight.
I'm really picky about my pants I guess >.> I hate the shapes of so many of them, like the other tight pants in the game.

ALSO I WANT TOADSKIN ESPADRILLES GDMMIT My favorite foot wear item's highest level variant is r27.. how lame is that?

One thing I would love to see is a Head Gear item like that low level pugilist item from FF11 =0 Maybe a Hachimaki

Anyways, I wouldnt mind if the pugilist gear stayed tight leather and buckles, but it wouldnt hurt to cover up a bit

To tell the truth, I never played FF11. A friend of mine got me into FFXIV. So I do not have any idea or backround of the previous series. I am pretty much fresh into the FF franchise.

I agree with you on pirate looks. My friend keeps bugging me to buy the Bucaneers' set. I refuse on two points. First I do not like the looks of it, and Second is that practicality of it is bad. The stats I have on my current gear is by far out run any of the Bucaneers' items.

I think what I would like to see more is leather gear with metal pads here and there. I think I could go with couple of those looks from those pics. One thing is defent, is that SE should make more gear. It is always good to have bigger variety. And player can get bigger indiviuality that way.

I wouldn't mind some metal here and there. Could look good. Thing I don't like is the total bondage look. Hell, we look like voldo from Soul Caliber. I hate our garbs. It's not even a matter of wanting a gi of some kind. I just want to look like a warrior... of SOME kind. Instead I feel like I should be wielding a whip and gag-ball.

I agree with you on that.
I dont really mind the looks so much, but these items are OMG useless.
On top of that their price is ridiculous, only thing worth wearing is Bucaneer boots + Bucaneer shirt, but both at the same time not just one of them individualy or else they do not compare to Harrier jacket, or Padded leather duckbills (price > usability)...
They are not even final gear, I would pay 500k gil for them at most.

Looking forward to the class specific gear.

Lol absolutely quoted for truth! I remember when I put on leather subligar and a leather harness and I was like....the hell is this? Thankfully the scouts/harriers jacket actually look good and there are a few other leg options, but even still I too think we need more variety of armor choices (i'm sure all classes do to some degree) and not ones that make me think my character loves BDSM.

Well, PGL will always have the Shirt + Sarouel combo! ^^ It looks very nice with some longsash/safari belt, some calligae and fingerless gloves/half gloves ^^

Only real advantage from jackets and harnesses over cloth armor is that we actually don't have the 40+ version of them.

This games needs so much more diversity on gear options, there's no way to tell one class from another one with out looking at their weapon. Other games distinguish one class from another mainly by gear looks, i hope SE does the same eventually.
