Population data from the Live Letter

Wow this data is really interesting.

The one thing I was most interested in I can't read because it's in Japanese lol

Paladin is the Green one (ナイト aka Knight, that's what it's called here)
Purple = Warrior
Blue = Gladiator
Red = Marauder

Why would they care and why do you care what they think?
What does this have anything to do with other MMOs?

Being that WoW is suppose to be "so much better"

Better is subjective, it's different and still a good game in its own right.
-
A lot less SCH than I was expecting! :O
-
The whole average level thing is massively skewed because they are counting all jobs on a single character. I'd like to see the % of players with at least one job/craft/gather to 50.
-
I'm really impressed by the fact that we EU/NA made MORE kitties than the Japanese. O.o
(I know I'm a guilty cat)
-
Those are quite interesting statistics to have for now.
But I would love to compare these to the data we'll get to see one year from now.
-
Yeah I feels like changing my race from Hyur to Elf or Roegadyn :(
-
I'm very surprised about the tank/healer %
As a whm my queue time shot up to 20+minutes after 30. And every tank I know is instant queue all the way to 50.
So I suppose the statistics are leaving out VERY important information on the server. The overwhelming number of healers that actually do instances compared to the overwhelming number of newb tanks that seem to think the game consists of FATE zerging so they don't actually do dungeons.

That's exactly what I thought, except the charts above clearly show that there are more Tanks in the game than healers total. So the queue times don't add up purely by the listed statistics alone.

First off, thank you, Hysterior (hope I spelled that correctly), for posting this info! Much appreciated!
Secondly, I'm pleasantly surprised by the data. Sometimes, I feel as if I'm so far behind "everyone else". I have only one adv class and one harvest class over 20 (and they're just barely over 20). All the rest are in the teens. I'm not rolling in gil. Sometimes it seems as if "everyone else" is in the mid-to-upper 30s on at least 10 different classes and has more gil than they know what to do with (as evidenced by some of the outrageous Market Board prices -- who can afford these things???).
This data, however, tells me I'm just plain average. And that suits me just fine. And, as a bonus, being Elezen, I'm a bit more rare, and that suits me fine, too!
It's nice to have this reaffirmation that it's ok to take my time and progress at my own pace!

First month, over 1 million is pretty good.
-
Seems like most players on non legacy realms are quitting.

Interesting about how many players are female and male, almost even with JP. One thing I noticed was how many people are stuck at 15. Is this because of the story quest and having to progress by dungeon group? I know once I had hit 15 and realized I was going to be forced to dungeon I lost interest in progressing the story and focused on testing other classes to 15. It sucks not having a retainer because you have to party up. Oh well. Interesting data.

It's good for what it's doing.

Healer / Tank / DPS / Other ??????
Wtf does the 'other' mean? DoH and DoL ? There's no true support classes, and I'm pretty sure they are talking about DoW/DoM role distribution.

Well, it's male/female characters. If you don't know that.

I don't remember where I read it but it means players that were gathering/crafting at the time of the snapshot.

That's cause most people probably get some class to 15 as the requirement for their job and then abandon it. (like I pretty much dumped my CNJ and THM at 15/26 once I got all the skills I needed for scholar.) Also with crafting, again, I wanted the level 15 culinarian cross skill so I got culinarian to 15 and now it's just sitting and rotting away (except when I do my GC dailies for seals ;3)

I wish I could like your post more than once, but I can't.
On topic: the numbers are pretty interesting. I do wish I were fluent in Japanese though.

What I'd love to see, is the split between people from EU and NA on EU/NA block. If it's 50-50, then maybe SE, you should give us our own datacenter. Ya know, like every single MMO out there does, and stop selling us your fake EU servers from Canada.
-
Representing that 10% of Highlander Hyur, and very proud of it. :D

and thats why the average lvl is so low , add that lots of ppl open a class and never touch it (so its lvl 1 )

It's never 50-50. NA market is bigger, hence more US servers.

Well I mostly meant that since queue times increase dramatically (from instant to over 25min) for healers post 30 I expected there to be more competition. The general consensus in the healing world has been that most ACN switch to SCH for duty finder in order to get chosen faster. But with so few SCH's it really makes me wonder if that was true at all or if WHM's mostly just solo'd up to 30 or chose to duty finder as something else until then.

Representing Elezen here AND warrior, wth only 26% of the entire tank population?? Man, what is it with the Paladin, seriously? Yeah shiny white knight and all but Warrior is badass! I don't get why the difference is THAT big, that there's more PLD than WAR I assumed, but that there's so few WAR in comparison... I'm also puzzled by the almost non-existing Scholars... and I'm surprised that there are more male chars than female, my perception really is that there are loooooots of female characters.
-
Well it does not help the fact that paladins can tank better(thats another discussion) and remember paladin is based of cecil/final fantasy 1 knight.

I think it's more a fact of "like" or as you said that PLD is familiar and WAR isn't, then again in FF11 Ninja was quickly accepted and even favored; as for the better tank, I don't think that statement applies here because the statistic from the live letter was taken now, 1 month after release with the avg lvl stating ~15-19. I doubt there were tons of players rerolling WAR > PLD within this very first month after release, which you must be implying bc in order to "perceive" sth as better you'd first have to see it which would mean lots of ppl would have either thrown away their axe at/nearing 50 or would have checked out the forums/internet as to what's "better" before they even started. both these possibilities seem highly unlikely to me, so I think more people from the start choose gladiator...and naturally end up as plds. sad. huh, maybe bc Ul'dah seems to be so popular...
