Warriors - Rerolls

Considering Yoshi's dismissive "l2p" response to questions about WAR, it's probably going to be quite a bit of time before WAR is a realistic end-game tank. Some of you may choose to stick it out, and that's commendable; But I don't think it's unrealistic to not want to put up with the communities' preconceptions for that long.

For those of you not sticking it out: What're you guys switching to? Are you a tank at heart and just going PLD? A melee at heart, and trying DRG or MNK? Will you come back to WAR if it gets fixed, or are you swapping permanently?

I'm swapping to MNK personally. Had the benefit of tanking a few AKs with a few extremely good MNKs in their Relic+1 w/ Darklight, and it was just a pleasure to watch. Actually killed Demon Wall before the bees, which I didn't think was possible.

Anyway, this isn't a troll thread. I'm genuinely curious what other players are going to do while we wait on being taken seriously.

I am actually switching TO WAR. Haha it is just so much fun!
That and knowing I will kind of be one of the 'founding' fathers of WAR tank, I am quite happy.

Started with a 50 WAR

Now i have a 50 PLD.

Im going to play them both.. Darklight works on both.. Allagan from Coil works on Both..

but.. mainly PLD.. if feels like a tank more then a WAR.

PLD but probably going to quit when free month is over (warr and crafting issues).

I might actually switch over to WAR.

I rage as much as the next guy, but I still love my warrior. I may level up a WHM just for friend purposes, and I may level up PLD for instances where it may be more desirable, but I'm a warrior at heart.

i try to sit it out, meanwhile maybe i try healer (never playd healer before) but i really hope, that SE will do something about Warrior til 2.1. if not.... dont know what im gonna do. if i have fun on healing i will stay, if not, then bye bye. i dont like the 0815 old fucking playstyle with Sword and Shield, ist just boring. Thats why i choose Warrior... but you know... feels like a halfbacked tank...

I've played enough mmos over the years to know if the playerbase and the devs disagree on if something is balanced, nothing will be done about it. So I'm rerolling to pld for now since they can use most of the same gear anyway it won't take long.

Real Warriors {hold the line} and take it in the face. I'm not rerolling to some pansy class that hides behind a shield.

Paladin, unfortunately, until/if it stops being the FotM (not that I think it's overpowered per se; it's the war that is underpowered).

Quitting after the free month, I have no desire to play a paladin let alone reroll. No fix to warriors along with nothing being done about gil spammers and teleport hackers doesn't encourage me to keep playing.

im already on the brink of a decision if to keep playing the game myself, I mean, its a mess to many problems and to grindy

I'm not rerolling, I'm on hiatus until they fix the class. If that doesn't happen in patch 2.1 at the latest, I'm never coming back at all. It's not as if the game itself is great, especially for us Europeans who just have to resign ourselves to playing with extreme latency. I'm not affording SE a lot of patience with this, and the game isn't even good enough for me to bother starting over with a new class and doing all the boring shit again so soon after doing it for the first time.

When I heal anything and I see a war tank I just let out a groan, please, don't tank while warrior. I used to be a war in 1.0 and I tested out war during beta after I got my 50 war back and I just tossed the thought of tanking ever again out.

Some people may be sitting there thinking, "well maybe other people aren't doing it right, I could be a great war tank and have super high hp and do lots of dmg and make the plds jealous".

:( nope.

Oh, and I picked smn after I tossed out war, I had all jobs anyways but becoming a dps is a good idea. If you become a healer you'll just learn to loathe wars more.

Already rerolled to BLM, not even going to bother with paladin since it seems really boring. If SE thinks they can get away with screwing half their tanks we'll see how that goes.

I know many people who re rolled or are playing a different class now. After playing a sith sorceror/operative you are not going to to see change ANY time soon especially if the devs disagree.

Who knows change might come in 2.1 but I highly doubt it.

Now I'm 100% sure SE mentality will never change, yeah good luck with PvP balance...

I'm actually shelving my WAR for now as I do not wish to be a burden to my group. Will pick it back up later definitely but when is up to SE (probably 2.1 CT) so till then I'll be on a DD either pulling my bow or punching my way up.

I have no interest in leveling 2 tanking classes, so I rolled an Archer instead. Kiting is pretty fun in this game, I can run FATE bosses in circles indefinitely if they aren't ranged attackers. Well, indefinitely until I get bored of it, usually some people show up pretty quickly after I've kited it around awhile and somebody with a sword and board takes the aggro and tanks it for us.

Reroll to Paladin. WAR is not a tank. It is a DPS that takes reduced damage.

I'm going to switch over WAR to try it out.. Many of us keep complaining about tanking less than a PLD but as a WAR is about as a sub tank and can dish a good amount of damage than PLD while at tanking.. Thought it might sound weird, a WAR job is harder to control than PLD and it's more effective to use in 8man dungeons due to dangerous bosses and adds.. As 4man dungeons, be it whether is PLD or WAR, both should be able to complete it smoothly..

With Sword Oath Paladin is both better main and off tank.

WARs do around 5% more damage than a PLD.
Since they take 20% more MP and GCDs to heal, one could argue that if healers spend the time saved healing a PLD by doing damage, that a PLD is actually a net-gain in DPS for a group.

WARs struggle with burst DPS. Inner Beast does not make up the difference of Rampart, Sentinel, Bulwark, and Shield Oath combined.

Already a 48 PLD after doing WAR 50 first. Once I hit 50 PLD, I won't be using WAR for much of anything. PLD is just better at this point in the game and sadly, it's not even close. I'd love to see the Dev footage of them using WAR on these hard hitting bosses in Coil.

Sadly... this is so true... my War is on the back burner til 2nd job classes come out, hoping they give mauraders Samurai or beastmaster :) when you play both War and Pld u can definitely notice the difference.

I'm willing to bet they playtested Coil with Coil~tier gear. Blizzard admitted they took this approach until WotLK, and had to change their thinking in order to properly tune the Raid-Finder.

Why do people use the term "reroll?" Are you creating wholly new characters? That just seems silly. That being said, I've leveled both GLD/PLD and MRD/WAR to 50. I'll play whichever fits the situation or whichever is most fun for me. So far, WAR has been a blast, but I'm not in the super end game content. Next up are the healer jobs.

Does reroll even make sense for creating new characters?

The phrase is a "hand-me-down" from table top gaming, where you would ask a DM if you could "reroll" your base stats if they were particularly bad, or for that matter, anything you didn't like. It made it's way into RPGs, and MMORPGs specifically, because often character race played a part in stat effectiveness (FFXI as well).

In this context, it's meant to capture the mindset of changing roles. I'll always have my WAR job and my gear for him, but I'm pretty much done with it until SE addresses it's game-breaking flaws; Thus, a change in mindset. A "reroll".

The sad part is, SE doesn't see anything wrong with WAR as end game Tanks. Stubborn devs will end up hurting this game.

I'm staying on my War, but I'm also leveling up Brd (32), Drg (35), Mnk (19/20) and ACN (16 going to smn). I won't level a pld or cnj, those two classes don't interest me one bit.

Do you even WAR? Staying war and will always tank as war, even though I have pld to 50. Pld is easy mode tanking, I don't have time for that.

I don't get why people say its hard... its just as easy as PLD...

Which is correct..

And comes down to.. people saying they play WAR for the challenge ? Is more like saying.. I play a WAR to make my healers work harder / have a challenge.

Warriors aggressive and paladins are defensive, they are both tanks, and they are both good.

Bullshit sorry,... yes, Warriors are agressiv, Paladin defensive, both are tanks, yes. but Paladin is way better then Warrior.

I would guess they probably tested it with Crystal Tower gear and not the current i70.

As an aside, irrc there was a dev quote about them expecting fewer than 100 groups to beat all turns of the coil before Crystal Tower. With content tuned to that extreme, it's a lot more likely to see strongly favored party compositions, the implication being that if a player always want to be positioned to beat content like that when first released, it may be necessary to level all of the jobs for a given party role.
