I'm really hoping they have a purpose for some kind of quest. Would be nice to know if we should vendor them or keep them in our inventory slots taking up space.

Any deaspected plus 3's yet? I have all of one so far. Freaking bombs won't cough em up. The new dungeons might be in beastmen-controlled areas. They love deaspected crystals. The crystals are used to summon avatars in eorzea.
Lots of ways they could go with it. They may be an entry fee for new content. Or at worst they'll just be something for the closing of the holiday event. Definitely keep them all though.
If you don't know what it does, hold onto it. I know I'm not the one who threw away his beastmen seals back in the day.
I have 4 of them now. I got them off of sheep in Limsa. I was on my 33 Archer farming sheepskins and they would drop about one an hour. I received no sp for killing the sheep so I know it's possible to get them that way. I killed around 750 sheep. Someone on my linkshell got one while doing botany. Not sure what these do yet but I am holding on to them.
I have yet to see any +3s myself. It's really strange that it's item type is 'crystal' but it doesn't go in the crystal tab.
Edit: Also fall under the category of 'crystallier's row' at the market place.
Its Materia.
I would like to think that deaspected crystals are similar to beast-men seals. Possibly a currency required to enter the dungeons. Maybe +1 and +2 versions can be of higher value, and are equal to maybe 2 or 3 crystals.
I'd vote for it, but we'd need confirmation of what they actually are. If they're meant to be desynth materials (so many of the currencies are made of explicitly-stated materials), then they couldn't go in the currency section. If they are actual currency instead of a crafting material, then yeah. Would save a lot of retainer room to put them in teh currency window.
I think a lot us are holding onto them thinking they will be used kind of the same way as in FFXI. Even if they can be melted down or broken into other mats we could still select them from the currency tab in the same way we pull crystals from the crystal Tab in alchemy.
I've found one so far, no +. I was trying to get them for a few days and then I just killed an R3 marmot outside of Gridania and got one. They don't seem to drop off of anything particular in any specific area. Seems all means of obtaining items have a chance of dropping Deaspected Crystals. I'm going to hold onto mine as I'm sure they'll have a purpose down the line. They wouldn't put in an item with absolutely no purpose.
Has anyone noticed anything strange about any of the mobs that drop these? Do you see an increase of sp or exp or a decrease...or none? Did you notice anything about the mobs themselves?
You can get them from gathering as well, they replace the 1-3 shards you typically get with each gather.
Pretty sure they are related to the upcoming materia system.
Heh. I was just gonna ask/say: Whatever you do with your Beastcoins is what I'd do with your Deaspected.
I mean it wouldn't be the first cryptically no-purpose item in the game, would it? Just do what you do with those things. Personally, I keep them and hope I'll be rewarded for my hoarding some day.
Save them of course, I'd bet you need them to enter dungeons, kinda like BCNM seals.
I think thiey have something to do with the gm event since that is when ppl satarted getting them. And the levequest counter guy talks of people getting strange items while doing levequests, which is also new.
was able to get 3 of them from mining the nodes at Camp Iron Lake
A few people have said this, but isnt the materia system in ideas mode right now, they are unlikely to have somethign in place when its just an idea.
And aren't the deaspected crystals, crystals that have already been used to summon a primal making them lose their power, not the other way around. Meaning that a primal has recentally been summoned. Or alot of primals being summoned
The way I recall it was Sylphs wanted to bribe Beast Tribes with "Unaspected" crystals so they could use them ... to summon, I guess. I'm not sure if that was clear. What we're getting are "Deaspected" and I have no clue how they are different. I'd say "Unaspected" never had an aspect (just looking at the word) but the process in which we (the player) made them during a mission speaks otherwise.
I just assumed that deaspected crystals were crystals that had lost its power
meaning it had been used and all power drained from some massive right, whereas the unaspected crystal was a crystal without elemental properties but still with power. Or if you talk to the battlewarden at humblehearth I think, he mentions that its odd that deaspected crystals started appearing after the mobs have gotten bigger. Maybe the mobs have drained the power themselves makign them become larger.Quote:
This translucent crystal seems to have been completely drained of its elemental aspect

And this:
Save them, or better yet, find a way to send them to me. I'm on Istory. ^^Quote:

As far as deaspected v. unaspected... I'm unsure. This could simply be another nomenclature issue, or the UN/DE could be of significance.
Totally concur with Shai: If I recall Forever Taken correctly, we had to take 5 crystals to Mor Dhona to have their aspect removed, which I would term a DEaspected crystal, because the DE implies there was some aspect which has since been removed, whereas an UNaspected crystal would not have had an aspect to begin with.
I suspect something is lost in translation. Maybe the un/de does have some significance, or maybe we are just reading too much into some minutia that may not have even occurred as worth consideration to someone who is not a native-English speaker.
C'mon mid-June!!!!!
I much dislike new items that remain without use for months!
i barely have space...
Silver goblets, all the numerous beast coins and now crystals!
If i cant use em, then its waste of space. If items are not planned to be used any time soon then please do no add them.
If it were something about the nature of the lands around Mor Dhona that caused crystals to be drained of their aspect, it might suggest that whatever happened to Mor Dhona is spreading to the rest of the land, making crystals elsewhere also loose their aspect. aka: Imminent Catastrophe.
Part of the ffxiv theme song:
Walk free, walk free, walk free, believe. The land's alive, so believe.
I'm starting to wonder if the game's theme song is envisaged as having been sung by Mezaya as well.
I think the Garleans use them as a power source, that's why they hang around Mor Dohna, and the beastmen use them to summon.
Yeah, maybe that's why the garleans built all those reactors above Bluefog, near to Mor Dhona.

But wasn't they recently added when "the storm over gridania" was added to the lodestone? I played just before the gm started poping up and the levequest guys never talk about strange items till after the gm sighting started happening.
I'm talking about the recent item we getting since those arcanist started appearing. No one got them before. This first time ppl been talking about the items.
u got these crystals in gridania for a mission where u plant them in mor dhona @ the ??? new black shrous i hope its not a worthless item..
The Storyline Quest and the dropping aspect-less crystals are two different things. First of all you plant FIRE crystals in Mor Dhona and get ASPECTLESS crystals back, but the are only for the quest. Now people are finding them on regular mobs and while gathering which would indicate that something important is in the works.
We have deaspected crystals now...
What about Astral and Umbral Crystals? Arent we missing the "Light" and "Dark" from FFXI? We have astral/umbral everywhere else in the game..
And why arent these crystals stored in the crystals tab... Taking up important inventory with no use at this time... really bothersome.
