List of Antiquated/Awkward Game Mechanics

Despite how pretty the game is and how polished the majority of it feels, there are a handful of things I've noticed that feel straight of 1999 or even things that WoW managed to get right at launch almost 10 years ago.

This post was originally longer, but ironically, posts are limited to 1,000 characters on these forums, which is something that should probably be on this list.

• You can't open your friends list, linkshell list, or whisper anyone while you're in a dungeon.
• We need to be able to link items in chat.
• You can't do ANYTHING while mounted. At the very least, an option to auto-dismount when attempting to speak with an NPC or use an ability while mounted would be greatly appreciated.
• A list of zone names next to the Aetheryte locations in the Teleport menu would save lots of map opening and closing for those of us who haven't memorized every zone in the game yet.
• The ability to simply right click and ignore someone is necessary.

working dungeon kicks
default to queueing partial dungeons with people having to select non partials intentionally
skip the cutscenes automatically after the first time you saw it, make it an option

• You can't invite people to a LS, promote people in a LS, invite people to a party, or do any LS/party functions while fishing/crafting
• You can't move for almost 10 seconds while using a limit break
• Being raised makes you unable to move, unable to be healed, but able to take damage.
• You can't right click someone's name in chat to blacklist them
• You can't right click someones name in chat to invite them to a LS/FC
• You can't easily invite someone to a party without having to search their name manually and then invite them
• Ten thousand confirmation messages when doing anything UI or inventory related
• Can't kick people from parties in dungeons
• Can't replace someone in a dungeon with anyone you want, even if you entered with 4 people from your own server
• Can't zone into dungeons by walking into them
• Have to manually select "join group in progress"
• No cross-zone chat channel
• No confirmation for removing items off your retainer's AH yet 9000 confirmation messages for everything else in the game
• Fate progress when hovering over it on the map
• Ability to track/untrack any quest we want
• Ability to do GC leves in a party
• Having to drop party to enter solo content
• Having to drop party to initiate leves if party isn't in range

There's a lot more I can't remember right now.

LB is fine, its a very strong attack so you need to make sure you know your position and that it will stay safe

OP, you can edit your post and type way past the 1000 character limit. Just a heads up.

Yes to your post, but mostly these. God I wish they would fix the raise issue and implement the Fate progress. It's already frustrating enough to have to rely so much on FATEs, but it's hair-pullingly-frustrating to get there with 1% left on the progress bar after traversing the entire zone to get there.

I think the big thing against this is, expecially in crowded areas, if there are a lot of players near an NPC it is alread "somewhat" difficult to swiftly click on the npc to turn in/begin a quest. If mounts were allowed for communications with NPC's it would lead to even more frustration trying to get around Magiteks or Goobbues (or similar large mounts). A separate way to target the NPC could be nice (if it isn't already implemented, I haven't really checked)

It's the simplest annoyance that I cannot talk to any NPC while mounted, but since this game is essentially talking to NPCs all the freaking time, mounting and dismounting becomes quite cumbersome. Fix this, SE.

Fully agree about the immobility when being raised or using limit break. When I'm being raised, and I'm helpless for several seconds because I'm watching a stupid animation, that is some valuable time lost that I could be tanking/dps'ing/cc'ing, etc.

The antiquated, non-linkable chat is hilariously outdated, not to mention the barren options list when it comes to clicking names in the chat box.

And the chat limits while in a dungeon....really?

This is a fantastic game with plenty of content, and it really is worth the money imo, but SE has missed the boat on some MMORPG-101 mechanics and features. Make this already-great game more user-friendly in the UI and features realm, and you've got yourself a polished, enjoyable experience.

* No loot tables whatsoever.
* Chocobo takes up a party member slot. Can't do GC leves with it. Can't dismiss it if you teleported into town unless through companion menu.
* No loot link? Really?
* Can accept quests that are a higher level than you (if you're playing as a class lower than your highest)
* Quests sometimes reward items that are higher than the quest level.
* Crafting text defaults to the general chat log.

-Off the GCD abilities aren't actually off the GCD because of animation locks.

If I have a macro that casts Bloodpath, Internal Release, and Berserk (all off the GCD) one press of that macro should instantly activate all three. Instead I spend a good 3-4 seconds spamming the macro button to get all of them up and running.

I know the reason for 90% of these things but if I say it I'll just get flamed into oblivion.

Having to quit a DF queue to do Solo class quests.

- Teleport locations are chosen via an increasingly long list of written names, rather than a visual world map or similar interface
- While selecting a reward for certain quests, the character window is inaccessible so I can't see what I'm currently wearing
- No method for sharing items/gil between alts whatsoever. Want to treat them like they're completely separate? Fine, so why can't I mail them? FFXIV wants to have its cake and eat it too.
- The whole retainers/market board system is truly bizarre.

Most of these are QoL things that will be implemented with upcoming patches. This is thread #12387147823 to point these out, nothing new at all.

Working in software development, I can assure you, the majority of these are tracked and WILL be fixed. Basically issues are either :

-Blocker
-Critical
-Major
-Normal
-Minor

Pretty much everything listed here is either minor or normal. They need to work on more critical issues first. The game is in its first iteration, save for a few critical updates/server stability patches. Be patient, and post these in the QoL thread floating around - the devs are actually looking at that one.

Just put the Withdraw command on a hotbar, it's not that big of a deal, being able to right click it in the party list would be nice, but isn't needed.

When I'm selling a lot of items on the AH I physically write down the name of every item I'm selling and then as I price check write down what I'm going to sell them for. It's much less frustrating than bouncing back and fourth between the market board and the retainer with a few items at a time.

It's different in games, if your game has a lot of QoL issues then it makes the game much less enjoyable. These should be fixed ASAP. A lot of them could not possibly take them long anyways.

Raze... you can price check from the retainer. Right click the item to sell and then check the top right of the new box for a small button. That will show you recent transactions involving that item.

You can. When you're listing an item, in the top right area there's an icon that looks like a list which lets you see the same items being sold currently, which likewise has the list icon which lets you see the sale history.

I'm annoyed that I can't summon a minion in a dungeon. I never see this get mentioned.

The inventory and it's lack of controls for sorting options.

And that's your opinion. What I am telling you is that they have limited resources, and when there are bigger, game-breaking issues: like instance server stability, infrastructure that just can't meet the demand, etc... they are devoting their resources there.

At this point and time, the fact you need to dismount to talk to an NPC means absolutely jack squat to the devs.

If that makes the game 'much less enjoyable' for you, so be it. They have bigger fish to fry. Therefore, no, these should not be 'fixed ASAP'. Stop pretending like you understand what is actually going on in a dev shop. The proof is in your ending statement - 'A lot of them could not possibly take them long anyways.'

Iterative software development goes through so many stages, you have no idea how long it can take to perform what you consider a 'simple change'.

There are multiple teams for a reason. Not everyone is working on server issues. Half the people working on the game wouldn't even know how to deal with that.

Stop trying to sound smart, the more you talk the less you seem to know about a gaming company as large as SE.

You can drag&drop the skill from companion menu to your hotbar.

It don't tell you the exact zone name of the teleport location, but in which region they are. Choose the cheapest one in the region you want to teleport and use the chocoporter for the rest of the way.

There's actually a bug relating to the 2nd part which I've already reported.

For me personally, I think minions and pets need names swapped. Anytime I see minion, I think of something that does something. For mmos, when I think of pets, I think of something that follows you around and (usually) does nothing.

Auto dismount. We don't HAVE to stay on mount to chat w/ nps, its more of manually dismount before you can do anything that irritates people. I would like to be auto dismount when I use a skill to attack an enemy, an option for me to dismount when teleporting instead of auto decline.

"Target Nearest NPC or Object" is F12 by default. You can change this under Keybinds in your option menu.

Forgot to add: You can also make this a macro with a simple /targetnpc

- no rare item
- no dungeon only rare craft component drop (beside relic)
