You wait 30 mins not because people are not doing dungeons. In fact there are TONS of people doing dungeons. It's because there only so many people are wiling to take the responsibility of being a tank or a healer. So basically the entire servers waits their turn to play with a tank and heals.
This happens in all MMOs.
But grinding same FATE everytime isnt healthy and really puts me to sleep due to repetitive action over and over again :(
I made it from 1-40 with only needing to grind 3 or 4 Fates total. All I did was clean out all the quests and do what the game suggests. Between my hunting log, quests and dungeons (of which I only needed to do once. If I did them again it was because I enjoyed it) I have never felt the need to grind.
Now playing Lineage II, now that game was a grindfest. You killed mobs all day, without the help of a Fate system. And you either put up with it or you moved on.
This game is no grindfest. Just players who are to lazy to do a little bit of extra work to reach the next level. I get so tired of this mentality.
Its a new game. There is some trial and error involved before they can fix it. I'm sure adding more quests in for the late 30's and beyond is on their list. But they have bigger fish to fry with RMT sellers and server capacity issues.
I'm also getting sick of the grinders. Like Jaminos said, you can level up easily with the actual game content. You have quests, socializing, forming a stable and fun party, the effin main storyline, dungeons, guildleves and guildhests... but NO, people prefer to grind and repeat the same sheit like machine or a broken record. What the hell?! Why even buy the game if you are going to skip 80% of it? I wonder if those people will utilize ANY of the features that Square is planing for the future, like housing, card games or chocobo races.
Heh... Why should they, if they can just GRIND. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoJE3slQR4s
Am I the only one that gets creeped out by the grinders? I mean, how much more obsessive compulsive you can get? Sometimes it looks almost fanatical... JEEZ...
Think about the people who lvl their second class with no quests and Main Story...
Its all about park in the middle of the map, yell "LFG FATES" and then ride&sapp your ae
Somehow I doubt you can run out of quests, guildleves, guildhests and dungeons before you hit 50. I mean, I have no problem with FATE's themselves it's a nice mechanic that spices up the environment. But doing nothing but one thing for a week, or a whole MONTH is just plain disturbing for me.
If you buy the game then you play the whole of it. You don't buy a basketball just to throw it at the wall. It would be like playing Sid Meier's Civilization, yet doing nothing but spawning barbarian squads and ignoring every other aspect of the game.
I know that the goal of grinding is to hit 50 in a week or something, but do people seriously call this FUN? If it's not fun then why do they do it? And if you hit 50, then what? Make another char and grind all over? Grind another class "till all are 50"? There even is no PVP yet, but even if there was then you still skip 70% of the game.
Anyone know if the cap will be raised from 50? I'm level 36 but just wondering. I also hope they have more dungeons planned and a difficulty system so we can make them harder. This will be nice for the old dungeons.
Say I wanna do Sastasha at level 30 but I cant cuz its stuck at level 15 or something.
Well, I think you look at it in a wrong way or don't understand the issue. You see, in FATE's you have a 10+ people slashing and smashing monsters till those drop, or doing some other minor task.
In dungeons you can have story elements. You also have a limited group which has to tactically figure out how to beat the enemy (Copperbell had a great final boss in that regard IMO). A Dungeon has structure, rooms to explore, sometimes dialogue or other things to read, many different/varied monsters to slay (sometimes you have to find an unconventional way to do that) and rooms with loot that such monsters guard (which are optional - that's a good thing). The difference is the level of complexity, freedom and overall stuff to do.
Dungeons are designed so, that each one is a different/unique experience.
With FATE's most of the time you wait for a monster encounter to spawn and then you gang up on those monsters with 10+ other people in a chaotic, loud mess.
Wait, then hack'n'slash. Wait, then hack'n'slash. Wait, then hack'n'slash. Wait, then hack'n'slash.
You don't even have to be in a group to participate. You don't even talk with people.
to me this goes to show how not needed quest grinding was, i know it was added because it was the MMO "standard" but this just goes to show that people ignored it and started FATE grinding, and fate grinding is basically monster grinding so why don't we just bring back exp parties.... it's clearly what people want anyway.
I've done most of the quests in this game
i had to grind out a few levels with FATEs to get to level 50. 46 to 48 and 49 to 50. 50 went pretty fast with all the quests in the Northern Thanalan Area, however. I also had to do a few FATEs to push me past the point of level up to continue in the story quite a few times as well, but was definitely less demanding than the 3 levels I mentioned.
You can run out of quests at high levels. Leves are just a waste of time, dungeons, unless your tank or heal expect to wait 1 hour or longer and at around lvl 43 your main quests does some serious level jumping and side quests offer pitiful exp and are few in number thus fate grinding was born. Also levelling a second class, yeah, fates.
This.
Levelin' a second class is hell. Leves give PITIFUL exp, Sadly pitiful exp. I would love if the exp gained from them was at least doubled. On your first class, your only real options past level 46 where quests die and your Storyline jumps from 46 to 49 is either to queue for a dungeon and sit for an hour or grind FATEs, which gets really boring real quick.
I mean, its a temporary problem if you're only looking at 1 class to 50, But a second class becomes nigh unlevelable without 1-50 FATE grinding maybe getting a lucky spot in a storyline dungeon in between. Its unbelievably terribad.
And for the record, Just because I hate how grindy the game is doesn't mean I hate the game. games fun otherwise, I just wish they'd up the Exp gained through Dungeons/Leves a considerable deal so they were more worth doing. Dungeons aren't bad as they stand though, Leves are in desperate need of a buff though :\
There is enough content (side quests) to get at least 3 different classes to Level 15 (one in each starting city) at which point dungeon runs start up. For the other 5 classes, yes, FATEs, Levequests, and Dungeons are the primary ways to go.
People also start 'FATE-TRAINing' after they have joined a Grand Company to get fast access to Seals so they can level up their GC rank, get GC gear, and buy GC bonus exclusives.
Leves are pitiful? Huh… I've leveled up my Armorer from level 15 to 20 on leves alone in less than five minutes. If I manage to make 2 HQ items I get an instant level up and some good cash. No grind, just making a few items for a few minutes and selling the rest on the market for a reasonable price. I must be doing something right. :P
Though that may be just a quirk of the DoH classes.
There is one thing that bugs me about the grinders. Why are you doing it? If it's unbarable, hard, monotonous, then why are you subjecting yourself to that? There is no fun in forcibly changing a game that was supposed to be entertaining into a teeth grinding chore. It makes no sence and complaining on the forum for not having fun out of your own volition doesn't make you look better.
And don't you guys complain on Square. So what that Square doesn’t “fix it”? YOU are still grinding it like a trained monkey instead of having fun. It's only the player's fault that he keeps subjecting himself into a broken mechanic.
And since Square sees people still playing despite the flaws I wager they don't think themselves obliged to "fix" anything.
On a side note I also think Square won’t fix it, because if leveling up all classes at once would be easy then having the option of mastering them all on one char would be meaningless. Making it easy would defy the point.
My guess is that they will minimize grinding through PVP. As in rewards in PVP would include EXP thus making FATE grinding obsolete. That’s the only way I think they can get rid of the mindless grind and make PVP really interesting to those that would want to max out another char. Heck, maybe even I would like it! ^^
>:/ I am sick of fates also, laggy horrible things. And I would do dungeons, but cues for healers are also 30mins these days! What gives? (For the stone vigil at least.)
You see, I actually find dungeons more fun, they are more of a challenge, and get get to work together with people, instead of just running in a swarm like with fate groups. And the more people doing the fates, the less time you have to actually get to the fate. Also you can get cool looking stuff in dungeons! Why isn't this incentive enough to do more dungeons, guys? It also feels like better exp doing dungeons too!
I'm also really surprised people whine about waiting 30 min. etc. Do people seriously stopped forming active guilds or at least a small, reliable group of friends? Are LS nothing but forgotten? Isn't socializing, making friends and playing a cool game with likeminded people, instead of just playing around dudes you don't give a sheit about, the whole point of playing an MMO?
Well, It was back in the day when I played Ultima Online. =/
I have a stable group with a healer, so I never have to wait. The first thing I did was forming such a group, and I'm a complete newbie in MMOs (the only ones I played was Ultima Online, Heaven & Hearth, ... and WoW for 5 minites). Is it really so hard for you guys just to get to know some people and play with them? No wonder I never see ANY conversations in the game chat’s. =/
My friend and I pair up together. We queue up as tank and healer.. we have never had more than a 1 second wait for any dungeon.
Simple search >> DD+Healer LFM 2DD >> 10,000 matches, pick 2 and your in.
Find a friend and queue up together, level a class to get instant dungeons?
There are always options
EDIT: My pet hate is people rolling need on crafting materials :(
Anyone know if the cap will be raised from 50? I'm level 36 but just wondering. I also hope they have more dungeons planned and a difficulty system so we can make them harder. This will be nice for the old dungeons.

anyone care to answer please
I feel that most people grinding FATES are leveling secondary classes to 50.
I will say that grinding being the only way to level a second class is somewhat disheartening. I'm not really certain what they could do to alleviate this, but the option to do a second class is a core part of the game. It's a little sad that there wasn't enough foresight to include options besides grinding for your second time around.
I think they'll wait till they can see that a lot of people have a class at 50 and have completed main scenario.
Once that's confirmed, they'll raise exp for alts in dungeons and in the field.
Can't see them doing it yet, they need to get through 2.1 at least
You do know the dungeon scales your level, right? I forget the exact amount, but you get scaled down to a couple levels, i think 18 at most for Sastasha. The gear is the same that drops, but it says even on the screen what level you will be scaled to.
And yes, they did say more dungeons soon even, there is a raid that is supposed to be placed before Coil, and another soon (one two content patches, so november?)
Yeah, it's that for me, leves are more useful for crafting or gathering, and they can't do fates, so with the waits for dps (which has nothing to do with fates) it's just more fun to do fates. I will say though, that 46 to 49 or so lack of any quests was depressing to hit. I had to grind those levels out to get to where i could do more quests.
I understand it does that but I really dislike it. If I took the time to level and learn all those cool skills I want to be able to use them. Not have them taken from me because of scaling and such...
I'm just hoping they make a difficulty system so we can play say Sastasha on level 40 or something. That would be so cool (imo)
It's not exactly just one way. Even I, as a WHM am finding problems with getting DF to work in my favor. 20+ minutes to get queued for a dungeon (and the DF utility is reporting no DD or tank matches either?)
I'm 46, and the only FATE grinding I did was roughly 36-40. Even then, that was only because I was in Coerthas and felt like giving this whole FATE grinding thing a go. Once I got bored with it (which was fast), I moved on to other things. I still do FATEs as I run into them, but I haven't had to grind anything thus far.
Frankly, I don't understand why people are leveling more than one class if they don't enjoy the leveling up process (FATE or solo). I mean, I haven't seen anything in the game that suggests this is necessary as of yet, so why bother? The only perk to leveling up all the jobs is an Achievement.
There's so much stuff to do in this game. Explore, do side quests, hunting/crafting logs, Grand Company stuff, etc. If something isn't to your liking (FATE grinding), and you haven't tried the other aspects of the game, I would put forward that the error is not with the game, but one's choice of activity within it.
The game is kinda easy at the beginning.
I feel like the game held your hand a bit like they done did in GW2. Why do that then you can duty finder? Luckily they didn't go full GW2.
GW2 hold your friggin' hand all your life absolute zero need for communication.
Luckily, having a neat group in this game works and it's fun to know your FC.
You hope the game gets harder at the end so more people start making FC and stuff. It's fun too!
Joina FC. X)
Yeah I know how the whole level syncing thing works. I'm just saying its a feature I myself do not like. I want to be able to use the fun new skills I've learned through my leveling but be able to use them even on older dungeons such as Sastasha for example.
A hard or extreme version of the lower level dungeons would be great. I also hope they up the level cap at some point. I'll probably be level 50 by the end of this month and I'm not sure if I'll be finding the game enjoyable after I cap. I mean I know there other things to do but something about reaching the cap just ends MMO's for me. (I don't rush level by any means)
Ah, the dreaded limit. Just edit the post and you'll be able to add as much text as you want. ^^
That's my whole point. WHY do people subject themselves to leveling up a class they won't need in a teeth grinding way? Forcing yourself to a boring, monotonous experience that's just busy work just to hear the victory fanfare. It's ridiculous if not pathetic. Even more so if they whine about it here. "Oh, the grinding is so hard and boring" - then why don't you stop, dumbass! People could be doing anything, just ANYTHING instead of wasting their time on a grinding activity. If you done everything there is to do, then why not giving the game a rest? Why not wait a little for the game's new content patch?
No, people have to grind up more like it's their life's purpose or something.
Even if they don't really need it to enjoy the game.
Dungeons are packed at higher levels so much so you have a full party in the duty finder but have to wait for a slot opens in the actual server. Most of my FC spam dungeons instead of FATES purely because its a good way to get/make gil.
The game will get harder. This is only the beginning.
This.
And some of us, well - given the rudeness of PUGs and how they all want speedruns... if my Company mates are online, you aren't likely to get me for your tank. Nor a lot of other tanks either.
So everytime you see a PUGly with an attitude... even if its your PUG tank - know that half your wait was because of a lack of tanks and healers, and half of it was because the tanks and healers that do exist don't usually want to deal with that rude person...
I did see some people standing midway between sastasha and the town right next to it for almost all of Sunday. Well, I was doing story quests and the dungeon there, and there was a FATE group always there... I'm just assuming it was the same people since anytime a FATE wasn't going on, a stack of them were just standing still...
Some people like to find the most boring way possible to play an MMO... and then complain about it. I was having a blast running through all the quests there. I and about 1/4th of the people there... the other 3/4ths were just standing around and spamming shout with requests to join a FATE group.
I saw those people in almost every new MMO since WoW's Burning Crusade came out... and they always give up after claiming the game sucks inside of 3 to 6 months, if not sooner... Really strange way to game, to set oneself up for disappointment like that.
If you don't want to be one of them, you have to get into a goof Free Company, or learn to be a PUG tank or PUG healer... or well... do the quests.
