One retainer should be enough, if it has unlimited slots. don't know why it has to be limited.
Yes, or that. Why would you be against having many inventory slots though? Does it hurt or disadvantage you in any way?
I think too many retainers would make players difficult to sell stuff.
I guess I worded it badly. Well, I just wanted more inventory slots is all.
I am sure in the future patch will allow us to get extra bags for our characters. Right now we have 4 bags.
While hearing that makes me happy.. Makes me a little sad too, because new items will be coming post patch :P
Inventory is limited for memory reasons (in b4 PS3 LIMITS US). Many games run into memory issues with inventory, it's why AF/Seasonal gear loses spriitbind in the A-chest.
This is no thing limited to just FF, WoW faces this, Rift does, and other games. We have a total of 100+175+175 or 450 slots which is obscene. Be grateful we don't have to go find bags like other games.
Why? In Eve every player have practically unlimited storage - up to 1000 individual item stacks in EVERY inventory space - station/ship etc, and stack size is up to... I don't know, somewhere in the trillions. And Eve has one of the most robust market/economy, hard to sell is def. not a problem there.
I mean, really, since when has inefficiency result in a more efficient economy? TBH, I cringe every time I have to sort my inventory in 14, both 1.0 and 2.0. What would take my literally hours to do in 14 could be done in seconds in Eve.

On one of my Eve character alone I'm probably using around 10k~15k+ item stack/slot, and I'm not even an industrialist.
Oh, and every Eve player/character are in the same "world", so my question is what can CCP do that SE can't when it comes to inventory and memory usage?
My guess is because they wanted to limit us to have two retainers right now since they want to ensure it doesn't hurt the market board while more newcomers to buy the game and play with us. When we have more new items in every patch they will consider when we get another retainer. EVE has been around for many years with so many items so it wouldn't hurt to sell. The market board doesn't have rules like EVE has ones or it needs rules if we want more retainers.
Now, the OP is asking for more slots and not retainers.
nope the reason was already said, is because of the ps3 memory limitation, was already said by Yoshida.
Care to provide a link? I have seen him mention memory many times, but never the PS3 specifically. Everytime I ask for a link, someone provides one that doesn't actually say the PS3 is the limiting factor, they just read more into it than what is said.
I think unlimited inventory (on your person) is a ridiculous idea, and unlimited inventory (in a storage chest) would not be memory limited, and would be trivial to code a system (even for a memory restricted device) to browse a theoretically unlimited list.
Yes, the inventory space is generous compared to 'most' mmos but not enough considering how many items there are you need to save. Plus in this game we have the ability to have every profession on 1 character. That alone makes the need for more inventory space essential. Especially with how inconvienient/expensive it is to get back to the retainer.
You can call your retainer to any inn room regardless of what city your retainer was purchased. Saves a lot of time and gil to not have to run to a different city just to use your retainer.
It is not the case, do not believe the FUD that people keep spreading. An unlimited inventory system is trivial to write could be achieved on practically any (target) hardware in the last 20 years. It would be even easier if we used pagination (like we have now), and then it would be very similar to say, a forum, but on a much smaller scale. (i.e. it loads all of the page you are on, and doesnt worry about the other pages (unless you had enough memory to keep pages in cache). It is a little more difficult to do if you want a single monolithic list, but still fairly trivial. Of course such a system would be best implemented with your retainer or a chest or similar, not with your "on hand" inventory.
This does not mean that I think we should have unlimited inventory (I don't) but its not a client side limitation with any specific hardware.
Also, with player housing coming out, there will be furniture (chests, and such) that will add inventory space as it did in XI.
When housing is brought in, I'm sure there will be some kind of storage in there. Either way, I have 3 crafting classes all over level 20 and a miner at 33. I have only filled up one retainer with ingredients and my current "on-body" inventory is like 27/100
I think you just need to stop hoarding. You know you can use those ingredients right? Start crafting, who knows, maybe you will make some money along the way if you sell the stuff correctly on the market board.
Unless you powerleveled to 50, most of the junk you picked up along the way isn't worth saving more than a few pieces of. There are some exceptions, but the majority of the trash drops are just that, trash. You will use 85% of them to craft one thing on your list for the xp bonus and be done with them.
I would love more retainers, each carrying fewer slots. Currently, we have 350 slots between 2 retainers. I'd love 350 slots and 7 retainers (50 slots per).
I'm a harvester and crafter, so I have a lot of stuff to organize and juggle. I'd love to have one retainer for JUST fish, one for JUST ores, one for JUST goods-in-progress, one for finished goods, etc.
I'd even be ok if only one of the retainers could go to market as long as I could properly organize the inventories of the other retainers. That way, we wouldn't have to stress the system with 7 unique retainer names. Just 1 name (and the clones would be A, B, C or 2, 3, 4 etc.).
Right now, inventory management is a time-consuming disaster :(.
four things i hope to see in the housing system:
1: the ability to craft there (so help me SE if it's like the inns and i cannot craft in my own frikken house!)
2: chest and other furniture to put things in
3: a link to the market board
4: a bell to summon my retainer.
something i'd like to see in general:
1: retainer bells at the outposts. (if i'm out in the upper paths mining silver and run out of inventory space i don't wanna go back to gridannia to drop stuff off. let me just go to quarrymill.)
2: autosort
3: auto stack (if i have a chest i want to be able to press auto stack and fill up the stack in the chest with stuff from my inventory. and vice versa. for an example play terrarria)
Well, the reason why it's so full is you never know when you'll suddenly need say, a yellow yarzon leg.. Okay it is one item, but sometimes that feeling that you saved 300gil because you didn't toss it away 5 classes ago makes you a tad happier. It'd be wonderful if at least there's some sort of mega-storage where you can put anything.. I understand about inventory limitation about how many you can carry, but what about how many you can have? Unless, it really is memory issues then I don't have much to say because I have no idea how it works.
