[Pole] Do you want to see the summoner class reworked?

"Yes" if you are not happy with the current gameplay of the Summoner class and would like to see it reworked. or...

"No" if you think that the summoner class is a good representation of it's title and would not like it's core gameplay style changed.

We are not talking numbers here, or whether or not the Summoner class is strong/weak compared to other jobs. This is a thread to find out what percentage of us Summoner players are disgruntled with the current form of the Job that is Summoner.

I will be consistently checking and tallying votes as long as the thread is still getting posts and votes. I will weigh in on a separate post because I want people to vote based on how they genuinely feel and not how I have tried to convince them to feel. Also, please do not vote of you have not played through a good portion of Summoner and actually know what the gameplay is like.

When I saw SE was making a SMN job I was so thrilled because through all of the FFs I have always loved the job of the Summoner the most. The problem with FFXIV's summoner is we are nothing more than a lame pet class. The worst part of this is the focus of the summoner is DD through optimization of our DoTs and offers very little interaction with the actual pet itself.

I was really hoping that FFXIV was going to be inventive with this opportunity and not just conform to every other MMO's standard pet class. Unfortunately I was proven wrong.

Personally, I would love to see these summons re-envisioned more as short term companions whose initial summoning does decent burst dmg or has an effect, stays for a short duration, and is dismissed either in death or a timer. They should be our main damage source, not a bunch of DoTs with a pet basically acting as another DoT.

Summoner is probably the one of the better classes right now for end game. The problem is most summoners don't know how to play.

I really don't mind the playstyle of managing dots.

Class should be more based on the summoners. Less (if ANY) dots and focus on pet abilities having skills tied into the pet.

That being said given that change happens, I'd hope to see another class come in that has a lot of the dots that summoner has. I enjoy the concept and the play, I just feel its not really very 'summoner' like, even if its fun.

As a side note: LOL Pole instead of Poll!

No. I certainly hope not. One of the only problems with the class is Bane's AoE range. Other then that at late game the class is unique the rotation is good and fun. They do pretty darn good DPS too, but get a few utility spells ( in combat res? )

here's a few points of internets for you.

I love my SMN and SCH. Maxed INt, and SCH is still very viable end game, and can dish out some damage.

Though.. a SUMMONER is about summons. Not three little things. The ultimate of the summoner (level 50) should be a huge spell - actually see the damn primal. They should interact more with the summon - not take it over, but maybe morph their abilities to the summon.

Example: Summon garuda - you're now dealing wind damage affinity with your spells, and gain more of her disrupting abilities (like they are now). You summon ifrit, now all your abilities are fire based, you get massive damage on your spells, but lower Damage over time.

It's a great class - and fun... going to try a tank soon... but they need a bit more depth.

3) Minor changes to compensate us for our lack of burst and long dps ramp. Cast times removed off Bio2 and Miasma.

Consider this though. This playstyle would not go away. It would simply be moved fully to the arcanist class. I am not suggesting that this class be removed from the game, but instead that the some of the skills that do not relate to summoner at all, like Fester, just be moved to arcanist and we get a rework on the summoner class.

I say YES...summoners were once reveared as one of the most powerful classes out there because of the mighty creatures they once called into battle...now we just get these rinky dink thinks called "Egis"....really?

Yes, it's just flat out underwhelming class. Skills suck.

SMN is AWESOME! It should not be changed AT ALL! DoT class is amazing, DPS is amazing, multitask utility is amazing. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE SMN due to the QQ of the folks that can't learn to play it correctly.

This class has been implemented phenomenally. Only thing that I feel needs to be tweaked is the radius of BANE.

I like the current SMN but I wouldn't mind if they buff the Avatars quite a bit.
They could even increase the DOT duration so we have more time to micromanage them.

I would like avoidance of aoe damage for my egis but garuda makes that better.

I actually like the way it is now, not classic SMN but a whole new class altogether which is probably pretty strong.

The problem with the class/job is that people play it by ruin spamming and that's not how it was designed. Also, I don't think they can make the pets stronger at this point. It is already one of the highest DPS, going by others accounts not mine, so buffing the pet would make SMN overpowered.

Having pets apply certain party buffs/auras depending on which one you have out would be nice.

eg.
Garuda > Caster DMG
Titan > Defense
Ifirt > Melee DMG

Other than that and possibly better aoe burst, I rather enjoy the SMN.

Yes would love to be back to a pet base class than a Lock and yes i did play Lock in wow and i liked it but i have always played FF since 7 came out and have always loved using the Primal's in the games and how they changed from game to game but i dont like how they have changed in FF14 ARR and SMN was the main thing that i was looking forward to when they announced it.

Summoner is fine in mmoish ways.

We need some adjustements, not a rework.

And what I can say for sure: you wont get a rework. Don't want to burst your bubbles, but...

On topic; yes I would prefer the Summoners pet to be more powerful and complex than it is, relative to its other capabilities.

YES - Keep the class as it is and rename it to something else (changing the pets as well, but having they perform the same thing as they are atm). Then create a summoner job that call summons during battle that dont stay but give utility to the party and burst damage.

But yes I agree. I haven't made a summoner yet, but looking through the tree, I did feel it was extremely underwhelming when it came to your actual summon. The Summon sounds more like a pure Affliction Warlock when it should be a cross between Affliction and a Beastmaster type of caster.

Plus, the summons are dinky... totally off putting and not likely to try out this job just because the the pet is so puny.

Yeeh... the thread was probably made a little too late in the night.

To your point though, we do have to take into account that greater versions of these summons will probably be unlocked at later levels. They do look quite dinky at the moment though and you would think that getting them would give you some sense of power to command them. Unfortunately it is quite the opposite. It is just a minion that does your bidding.

I am happy with it as a dot class as that is what I like. Rather than rework the class just change the name to warlock.

Well, in the next major patch, they're giving FC's the ability to summon the real primals. Summoners will still be stuck with the pokemon.

I love my Summoner as it is right now, I do however see a few changes that needs to be made to make it more viable. As we do not have burst we rely on our DoTs. That said, we should not have such a long cast time for DoTs (2.5 sec...) as it deals damage over time already and is already going to be slow damage, our initial cast for it should be considerably less.

I want changes to:
-Reduce DoT cast times
-FIX THE GOD DAM COMBAT LOG TO REGISTER DOT DAMAGE
-Improve pet management mechanics (Being able to use pet commands whilst casting, Improve pet responsiveness)
-Increase pet damage or make them more versatile, at the moment there is hardly any need to use Iifrit or Titan at 50
-Ruin II NEEDS A MAJOR CHANGE, it does as much damage as a WHM damage skill as a DPS class... Our only nuke/buffer spell is ridiculously weak

I could live with it if they kept it the way it is, but I do feel like the class is lacking that "wow" factor it had in the other games. So if I had to vote, I'd vote FOR changing the class. However, I could careless what they do.

No. Too many people complaining about what they expected and what they got, it's fine. The only complaint i really have is that you can't easily see which dots are yours in boss fights. Slight color difference just doesn't cut it. Make them bigger, different color, whatever. I also hope if they don't, it's one of the first things someone makes an addon for.

Yes change them. I have no interest playing one but I feel embarrassed for them when I see them around.

Yes because after being decently geared and doing aurum vale that flat out the class needs an overhaul in a very big way. The pets are useless in most of the boss fights in that dungeon. The Pet(Seriously I hate using this word associated with summoner) A.I. is really bad and the fact that you can't cast at all makes very unreliable as you have to leave it on auto most of the time or else you just cripple your rotation. I would rather the class be focused on the summon then for it to be just a sidekick. It's one of the reasons that I dropped the class and have decided to move on to playing another one.

No I do not the class reworked
