I came here to post EXACTLY this same idea. It would make the game so much better! SO much better. There are so many spells I use infrequently that would be much easier accessed by holding R2+L2.
Pleeeeaaaase make this happen! I can't stress how much more fluid it would make the game for me.
i asked why i couldn't do this from day one. i've played other games that allowed this and it just evens out the lack of buttons on gamepad vs keyboard and allows people on gamepad not to have to worry about not having enough hotkey spots to play certain classes.
There are so many things I wish I could do that I can't with the game pad. I used xbox controller to play GW2 for a while and mapped the keys using Pinnacle (sort of like xpadder). I was able to choose to set a button to react different if it was pressed once, twice or held down. For example, I had dodge mapped to a button that if just pressed once and release would dodge but if pressed and held would use heal without dodging. It was awesome, I just wish I could use Pinnacle to map my xbox controller buttons in this game too.
From what I understand, this isn't possible because L2 and R2 are essentially one button; the L2 trigger inputs a positive z-axis value, while R2 inputs a negative z-axis value. So pushing both at the same time results in a cancellation (-100 + 100 = 0), which is the same as not pressing them at all.
In this instance, yes. It's to do with drivers and API. It's a very common problem when using gamepads on the PC and is remedied by using a third-party program such as XInput. However, this does not "fix" the PS3 version.

What are you talking about? The PS3 is able to register both buttons being pressed at the same time. The hundreds of PS3 games that use this function are proof of that.
This is something that seriously needs to happen. It's a small change that would make the game infinitely more intuitive for PS3 players on pads. I'm only level 30 and I've already hit a wall as far as my hotbars are concerned. With a 3rd bar, I could fit more spells without having to switch through loadouts, and I could make it much more neat and cohesive. As of now, there's no rhyme or reason to how I'm forced to set up my spells. It makes it needlessly harder on me to get used to playing on a pad.
They talked about this on the giant gamepad thread in the beta forums. The L2/R2 was what they said they wanted to put into the game. I think they just didnt do it yet.
Bump.
Because it needs to happen.
As I'll keep saying, this is a PC-related problem because default controller drivers, DirectInput specifically, treat Triggers as a Single Axis. I am fully aware that when using XInput, or the PlayStation 3 equivalent of such drivers, triggers are able to be used independently. A fix to one platform does not fix the other.
Yeah I thought they said they were gonna add this function actually. I was wondering why it wasn't in the game yet.
What the hell are you talking about? Seriously. You make no sense at all. The point here is to make the game more comfortable for pad users. It is entirely possible on the PS3... and from what you're saying, it is possible on the PC with the use of a 3rd party program. Which is mostly irrelevant because the majority of PC users are playing with mouse and keyboard. So why are you even arguing? What is your point? That PC players would have to download a 3rd party program to make use of this? Because of that, this feature shouldn't be added?
All I'm saying, is that I believe it to be highly unlikely that Square Enix would implement a feature in the game that is not natively available to all users. I play on the PC using a gamepad occasionally and am in full support of this feature. I'm simply noting my speculation on this feature being implemented in the near future.
That's hardly a good criteria for what should and shouldn't be added, seeing as PC users already have access to an interface that PS3 users do not.
Hmmm I'm happy with having a crossbar set for combat only(unsheated weapon) and sheated weapon set. Atm have 2 in the combat set and I can easily rotate between them without much of a problem of overshooting them. Though I could see a third one being good as well. Though the GUI would then be rather clutered.
Ideally, the third bar would be hidden and only appear when you press L2+R2. The main bar would fade out while the buttons were held. I honestly see this as a necessity for me. The game feels incredibly restrictive with the few buttons I'm given and the enormous amount of things I want to map to my hotbar.
Last I heard they already had this up and running on dev builds during beta-phase but the problem was how to fit it into the limited memory of the ps3-version. I'm pretty sure it will eventually come to at least pc some time in the future. People having trouble with limited crossbar space, have you activated different sets for weapon sheathed/unsheathed? I only have to tap R1/RB once to jump between my two crossbar-sets that i use while fighting which I think is pretty hassle-free. Gives access to 32 skills with the click of a button and the crossbar is not cluttered with mount-commands or teleport etc. while fighting
^^^^^ Everyone should try this setup, the guy's video guide in New Player forum was an eye opener to 90% of gamepad users.
Bump for justice.
I desperately need this function.
Definitely be a nice feature
Or why not just make LB / L1 bring up a 3rd cross bar set when in combat?? It's not like anyone would want to auto-run in the middle of a fight, and occasionally when I'm changing filters by using LB+Y or something I'll accidentally auto-run into a pit of spikes. Just make it so that instead of LB+[button] for a filter change you can customize it to be LB+D-pad. I think 4 more buttons with LB/L1 would be worth it
It is perfectly available natively on pc. Every single multi-platform game released on pc can use both triggers at the same time. If you actually care to look at the actual DirectX API, it has no restriction on shoulder buttons. That kind of restriction would be silly, and violates the very design standard Microsoft has dictated for 360/Windows.
The only time the triggers don't work at the same time, is if you have really bad drivers for your gamepad, or a terribly designed gamepad by a sub-par manufacturer. Even the 3rd party drivers for my PS3 controller can use both triggers at the same time without problems.
If they can't/won't add another bar, i would be fine if there was a normal hotbar I could set on one side and assign skills too that would just let me see them. Could place long cool downs/situational skills here, see them light up, R1 swap, use, go back. Ex: Mercy Stroke. I keep it on bar 2 while tanking, but it would be nice if I had a visual indicator when it was ready without having to bar swap.
The more you play, the less this matters.
Want to buy focustarget on ps3 though :<
Direct input? People still use that? I dont think any new games out officially support direct input anymore. Most just support xinput directly if they allow controllers at all. Besides, Direct input triggers arent even sliders. They're buttons too. Only xinput is sliders for triggers (and ps3 controllers obviously).
You guys just need to use macros. For example I am a dragoon. One of my main combos is:
Impulse Drive > Disembowel > Chaos Thrust
Instead of having the abilities on my bar taking up 3 spaces, I just made a macro:
And added that macro to crossbar. Now I\\'m using only one button to use 3 skills. Just an FYI because like someone said, just because games like shooters utilize L2+R2 does not mean every game is capable of it. As it is the PS3s limited memory will not even allow us a keyboard and mouse interface.Quote:
/ac "Impulse Drive" <t>
/wait 3
/ac "Disembowel" <t>
/wait 3
/ac "Chaos Thrust" <t>
You can do this on PC for sure. Not sure exactly where but somewhere in hotbar settings you can add 7 and 8 to be onscreen (they are the vertical hotbars) to the side of the cross hotbar. You can also set it so unassigned boxes are hidden.
I play with controller on PC and once i figured this out made my life so much better combined with my macros. I have an all inclusive buff macro but i can see the CD's for each of them individually on the side as well as an OGCD ability i have macro'd that I know when to hit without spamming endlessly guessing when its CD refreshes.
You can setup Cross bars to only come up during Combat. Its in the menu UI controls.
Crossbar 1 for me in Generic and shared accross all jobs. (Warp,Homepoint,Sprint,Mounts and a generic pull macro)
As soon as I engage it swaps to Crossbar 2 which has all my abilities.
