Economy Needs a Buff

I need to add my voice to the mass of players because im worried about the economy in ARR.

Firstly, there doesn't seem to be a viable or reasonable way to 'farm' Gil........

Secondly, being the pve game that ARR is, no equipment is ever destroyed from death or excessive use therefore how does this promote a healthy marketplace?

Thirdly reiterating on the previous point, because there's no 'Circle of Life' on the marketplace how will crafters make do when everyone has all the equipment they need? it seems consumable crafting is the only safe way to go.

Fourth, the game is very early but it would be nice to have more data on the marketplace eg. medians, moving quantities, averages. It would also be nice to have regional markets and not server wide markets. This would make trading much more viable.

And lastly, being able to implement some sort've FC taxing ability would also be a nice start to potential future empire building features. (RvR wink wink)

1stly:- You can farm gil from both dungeons (Alagan pieces) and leve quests.
2ndly:- Equip is converted to Materia, although end game gear doesn't have any materia slots which does make it slightly redundant and needs looking at.
3rdly:- There is profit to be made you just need to know what to make.
4thly:- I agree totally, having this kind of data would make a massive difference to selling and also provide a more stable marketplace where its easy to see for new players to see the average sale price of previous items instantly. (I've been asking for this since 1.0)

I can only hope that add ons will allow us to the 4th suggestion.

I would hate to see a taxing PvP style system in this game.

You cannot farm gil from dungeon. It is always a loss in repair costs to gil acquired.

And leves give terrible gil. You could do 10 and not get 10k which is like 2 bad repair bills. I'm just hoping bronze allagan peices in 50 dungeons was a mistake and it should be silver.

If I'm lucky I'll get like 500gil from a run. If we die two or three times that 500 gil is gone. You can make money from a dungeon if your lucky and there are no wipes but its by no means effective and I would bet that after 10 dungeons there would be a net loss.

There truly is no real effective guild generator. The best I have found is crafting leves with HQ turnins but at 35 they are still less than 1k gil.

Having been an effective user of the player economies in pretty much every MMO I've played (no, I don't want to admit how many), all this talk about the economy is starting to chill my attitude on this game. If I can't effectively use my crafting and things like leves to augment my wallet in game, the fact that I've got limited time for endgame commitments to run for gear is definitely going to detract from the game as I level.

I wonder if/what the devs might be planning??

I lost all my (100k) gil from leveling carpenter. I'm now so broke, I can't afford to repair my AF. I got no leve allowances on account of leveling carpenter. And there is no real way to earn gil. Seriously, the economy is broken. I mean come on, for a DD or even a healer, it takes 15-30 mins waiting for DF to get you a dungeon party, after which you get 500-1500 gil. Not only does that not pay for my repairs, it just doesn't seem worth the effort.

I'm not surprised of the influx of gil sellers, taunting me with their many Ks of gil as I scrounge for scraps just to get by.

Why can't you make some lumber and sell, there is profit in all base materials, especially if you HQ them, you just have to put the work in.

Gathering classes are also easy to make money off, and have little lay out in terms of gear as you can get most of it from doing the class quests.

I do agree with someone above though that hopefully bronze allagan from level 50 dungeons was a mistake, Silver would be better.

The problem with lumber is on Balmung, most lumber the profit is marginal at best. I would also mean spending hours getting crystals together seeing as the only way to get them is gathering, they give little to no gathering XP, and the abilities related to them cost so much GP (I mean 400 GP for 2 extra trees worth of crystals? Come on...) it just doesn't feel worth it. Most money seems to be made from high-level mats, but without leves, leveling gathering classes takes an age, and as I said, I've used up all my allowances on acount of leveling carpenter.

Am I the ony one who thinks 3 leves per 12 hours is not enough?

Making gil is easy in your case. Just farm shards that are commonly used. You can get 99 fire shards in like 20 min and sell them for 3k. There are also mobs you can farm that have drops worth 200 or 300 gil. Now that doesn't solve the problem of new gil generation but it will pay for your living costs at least untill everyone is poor lol.

Crafting in a game is supposed to be the most fruitful generation of currency, followed by the suppliers of the craft (less profit but don't have to spend money to make money), and finally killing stuff, which should still get you enough income to be in the positive. Right now, crafting is broken, because you're only going to get gil from a select few items. You can't make a major income from crafting until you hit 50 and can make stuff that's only available from other crafters, or supply people for their relic quests...

Leveling crafting while buying your mats (I'm assuming you did this since there is no way to spend that gild unless you do) was never profitable in any game that I have played. Once your max you should be able to easily hq items and make some of the gil back but but powerleveling is a mistake in this game with no easy gil generation. Materia melding is your best bet depending on your craft.

I hope your trolling. You might like grinding for hours on end for a few hundred Gil, but I assure you the majority does not. No SE needs to either introduce a new game feature or tweak an already existing one to provide a more viable and reasonable way to farm Gil.

I have said it before and will say it again.

The less ways there are of making Gil the more the RMT sellers will profit.

Gil should be easy to come by to counter act the RMT sellers.

It's not about grinding for money.

It's about income, when 1000's of people are all doing the same thing the amount of gil coming into the server is fairly large.

There are other ways to make money after that, for example crafting and gathering. (this is where money passes from one hand to the next)

If you are too lazy to do either of those things, OR you don't' like either of those things, I guess you have a hard road ahead of you.

Money passing from one player to the next is fine and all. But later on the new players will get harassed by people trying to get their gil becouse everyone else on the server is flat out broke.

Not to mention when houses arrives there will be a major shitstorm considering i heard it will be around 1+mil gil for a house. Sure the price go down over time, but where the hell are you going to pull that cash out of ur bum if the market is so saturated its almost more worth selling stuff to vendors for 1gil ea.

The market prices cant level out if there is no generation of income for veteran players. As most of you can see already the market is getting destroyed becouse everyone can be everything. And atm gathering/crafting IS the best way to get that gil from new players. So imagine in a month when lets say half ur server got the gatherings and craftings to 50. You will probably make more money selling ur stuff to a vendor then putting it up on the market boards.

You can probably even make money buying stuff from the undercutters and selling it to a vendor! This last part is true right now and its only been what? 2 weeks since release.

There HAS to be a cash generation by doing quests/leve or actually getting 100% of the time a chunk from dungeons. Not this pocket change crap that we are getting now. But an actual income with some big cash chunks on a cooldown or whatever.
This SHOULD be common knowledge.

The RMT people are thriving of this blooper by the devs. They are making tons of money and people are getting hacked left and right becouse of it.

Not really you could run into inflation issues, making the cost of PC transactions rise to high prices. But then at least repairs, and npc products will be cheap though.

We should honestly push for EXP conversion to GIL @ max level, that would help push people to do dungeons/fates/levys @ max level for money :)

Just pick gathering or mining. You pick up the basic materials for everything in the game. Then when you do crafting you'll have some of the materials you need. Supply and demand find out what people need and sell them that. You can gather 99 things in about 10 minutes at 100%. Easy 10k or more if you have the right items. All cloth materials logs crystals . If you like to kill things farm things that people need.

Either that or have the XP roll over to another class (maybe with a penalty), right now its such a waste to do quests/leves at lvl 50.

So what your doing with that is still player to player trading, the only NEW money comming into the game is from new players. Old players cant get money from doing lvl 50 stuff since nothing pays well. So pretty much everyone is draining money from the new players and undercutting everyone to the point its not even worth it. Just to make some pocket change.

Its like you totaly ignored most of the posts here and stated the obvious, that we have said is not a working thing.

I know money going out of the game with taxes and repairs. With new players coming in now money coming in. With housing and Golden Saucer coming in new money should follow. A whole new group of people with PS4 coming next year. The problem now is everybody rushed to 50 and are broke. The games to easy and people don't need to buy crafted things like they did in FFXI. I hate to see it get even easier. If you want money now , its out there. Go get it why you can.

Then you do level 50 leves to make money.

Would be nice if there actually was lvl 50 leve's. But the current highest is 45. And thats enough for a few repair bills then ur out again.

As money becomes scarce, prices on everything will simply go down and the economy will stabilize itself after a while again. In the event that is very unlikely to happen despite some doomsday naysayers would believe, even a complete collapse of the gil economy would simply turn the gil into NPC only services and players would start trading items for other items without gil (which the current AH cannot handle, but spamming chat channels will).
