So apparently I'm doing it wrong so can some people please share some knowledge, tactics or a guide so i can better my understanding of this class, I'm basically posting this to get a better understanding of the job and see how what I think differs from the rest. I have not done this job since 1.0 and i have not idea what all has changed as of yet.

What are you confused about?

BLM isn't a job you should be using macros for, since it's RNG dependant. You can't know when you're gonna proc thundercloud and firestarter :/

I'm not sure what first starter is I've just got back on BLM since 1.0. Ive been doing PLD this whole time from 1-50 so if you have any polite tips please offer them. Sarcasm is not really helpful.

Your main nuke as BLM is Fire I.

You are almost never going to use Transpose.

You use Blizzard III and Fire III to switch between UI and AF. Fire III when you get a firestarter proc.

That's the..basic gist of it.

Fire III only is terrible DPS and will drain your MP like it was nothing. Casting only Fire 1 outside Macro, then casting Fire 3 ONLY to get Astral Fire III up and when Firestarter procs allows you to conserve your MP for more skills whilst in Astral Fire

That's helpful. I have not seen many things for BLM so im not fully into the strat for this class yet. IE, why I posted in the forum to get some far criticism. Does anyone have any tips for thunder as well is that usually used the same as fire? I'm not really under standing why there are 3 tiers of thunder when they no loner stack as a DOT.

But is there any tactical difference using 1 2 or 3 the highest one seems the better unless theres some more things im missing.

And use thunder 2 always, except if you proc thundercloud, then use thunder 3.

Thunder 3 used regularily isn't worth the extra mana cost (and cast time).

And as for thunder 1, it becomes completely obsolete after you get thunder 2. Do not use ever again.

So the same thing can be said about Blizzard 1 where I would want to stay in fire umbra most of the time and swap to ice for thunder casting and mp regen?

Well I don't play BLM but I guess you have a trait that gives you a chance to get a free FIRE 3 instant cast when you cast fire I or something like that.

Usually a BLM "rotation" would look like:

Fire 1 > Fire 1 > Fire 1 > (Firestarter proc) > Fire 3 > Fire 1 > (Firestarter proc) > Fire 3 ... until almost out of mana. Then:

> Blizzard 3 > Thunder 2 > Fire 3 > Fire 1 ... and repeat all over again.

Use thunder 3 whenever you proc thundercloud.

Switching between thunder 2 and 3 is useless. If thunder 2 is used, the potency of the thundercloud proc is predefined (as said in the tooltip).
"Additional Effect: 5% chance after each tick that potency of next Thunder, Thunder II, or Thunder III will be 295, have no cast time, and cost no MP."

Using any of the thunders will result in the same damage. All that matters is the original cast.
Thunder III thundercloud has a potency of 340 btw.

Hm, no? It says:

5% chance after each tick thunder 1, 2 or 3 will add its full damage over time damage instantaneosly, have no cast time and cost no MP.

It doesn't say anything about 295 potency.

Plus it's better to use thunder 3 with thundercloud since thunder 3 lasts for 24 seconds versus 21 seconds from thunder 2.

Just as a heads up T3 gives you an extra tick over T2 that and mana cost shouldn't matter since you lead Thunder with B3 and you'll regen that mana during the cast of F3 to swap over to F1 spam

Read the tooltip on Thunder I, II and II themselves. They say 240, 295 and 340 respectively.

I could def use some macros. I don't think it's my ping, but what's killing me is moving to insta-cast Fire III (or a Thunder proc). I believe continuing to cast Fire I or anything else when something procs would lower your dps, so I tend to jump or WASD to insta Fire III and it's annoying. Need like a...../stopcast Fire III mid-cast, as the proc seems to be on impact.

Well I think most of us do waste atlease one of the firestarter proc. so its either you waste 1 sec out of your rotation to see if firestarter proc or just do it after the next fire 1.

also if you are looking for macro im gonna give you a macro that will help you with Crowd control.

Just spam this button until it cast sleep.
*this will gonna give you instant cast sleep on your mouseover target or your current target if you dont have mouseover to something. mouseover > target.

Edit: Also since im giving advice on macro let me add this thing to. There are times that you need to cast Thunder I/II/III on target after Blizzard 3. and sometimes you dont have enough mana to cast Thunder III if that is your prefer on the target. Well this macro will fix that. Also you can use this on Thundercloud proc.

*This will cast Thunder by priority. If you have Thundercloud up this will cast Thunder III with or without mana. As you cast Blizzard III and your mana didnt reach the requirements for Thunder III it will cast Thunder II instead. that goes to Thunder II and Thunder. So you dont have to worry about waiting for mana to cast Thunder. Since you only want to cast this just to wait for Thundercloud.

I'd use that, but I don't cast Thunder III. It's always usually 1 or 2 with my rotation. Not sure what the commands are for these "if so-and-so procs, do this", but it'd definitely be save me some hotbar room.

Then there is now way to do it. mine is combine of thunder II and I just like you and separate thunder III.

I haven't experimented with macros much for BLM, but how useful are macros if after casting the first spell you need to move to get out of the way of some AoE attack?
