Pre-Ordered? Thats your fault!

well more or less I was directed here to exchange my EU pre-order collectors edition code for a NA one..

what really pisses me off here is that they openly admit that the pre-order meant nothing.. only what site I bought it from.. ridiculous.. absolutely ridiculous.. im really having second thoughts about continuing to support this game from this point forward.. im not sure that I like the idea of "you have a problem? not our problem!" attitude from Square Enix..

below is the conversation between me and a SE lackey today where nothing was done other than him repeatedly telling me he didn't know anything about SE's policies and that he was sorry for that.

Agent Daniel C: Unfortunately Leonard, because the game was purchased from a European store, the code you were issued is the correct code. If it was a North American store such as Gamestop, that would be different. I do apologize for the confusion.

Agent Daniel C: Unfortunately, at this point it is not possible to receive the pre-order items from Square Enix. You may try another souce for a pre-order code, but our retailers are no longer providingthese codes.
You: wait.. so because i pre-ordered from an online source outside the US even though i did in fact "pre-order" im ineligible for the items included in the "pre-order" because of the way SE labels accounts?
You: and what exactly is another source? as far as i know the ability to pre-order is over since the game has been released.
Agent Daniel C: Correct, you pre-ordered a game from outside of your service region, so you were given a code based on that service region. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

You: ok so one last time to clarify before i go. i did pre-order the game, and im ineligible for the pre-order bonus items because of the region i ordered the game from. so the fact that i pre-ordered doesn't matter at all only where i bought the game from? If i had bought it from square-enix i wouldn't be eligible for the items either since square-enix is based in Japan? and lastly there is no way to address this issue properly because there is no information available to yourself or me on how to address it?
Agent Daniel C: Had you ordered from Digital River (our online store) Best Buy, Gamestop, or other North American based retailers, then you would receive a North American based code. Since you ordered from a site dedicated to the United Kingdom (UK) you received a European code. The issue has been addressed properly, Square Enix si able to assist customers who are North American account holders, bought a game in North American based retailer, and received an incorrect Pre-order code. As that is not the case here, we do not have a way to assist in this matter.

sold out in America for the CE. and the region shouldn't even matter their na/eu servers are in the same goddamn building.

he was reasonable sure.. just didn't know anything.. and had the typical SE approach to just say sorry till they go away.. fact is.. I pre-ordered and should receive the items for doing so as advertised.. no where did it say anything about receiving items based upon where you bought the game.

im 1.0 ce legacy I literally only purchased the pre-order for the pre-order items. someone suggested making a EU account and all that and trying to merge them.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune and I understand your point but SE mmo's have always been region specific regardless of server location. EBay your copy and look for a North America version.

A rep named Daniel helped me yesterday. Imagine being him.. you are being forced to tell players these idiotic things because SE is completely ridiculous.

I feel badly for both of you, and it's clearly SEs fault.

You should have told them you bought it from Amazon with the wrong region code. UK store should have given you a NA code?? Gamestop was giving out codes until release. I really feel your pain in missing out on the preorder items. Maybe try again?

You can play a character in any region server you want, but when it comes to sales, different countries have different commerce laws, and no individual business can supersede them. That's why a lot of online services that involve sales are region locked. The US can't make EU do anything.

Im gonna give this one to SE. You purchased from EU store and want to use on NA account. To you it may not seem like it matters but its understandable that they have diff region codes.

Ok the user agreement does say it needs to be purchased in the region you live in. Look under section E.

Well, thats odd, I live in uk, bought a hardcopy from uk but I registered and currently play on a us server as the peak times on us server suit me more due to my work hours.

Yeah that CS guy sounded like he was being reasonable to me. Its not SE fault you bought a game from a different region. Can't point the finger at them when they had nothing to do with your purchase.

Just get in contact with the store you purchased it from explain the situation and maybe they can switch over with a NA code?

He sounded reasonable and polite. You were a bit *ahem* less than cordial. Really, region issues are very common with games and especially with bonus content. I learned this lesson several years ago when I bought North American content for a Japanese game and wasn't able to use it. I've never made the same mistake again, and after this, I imagine you won't either. Sorry it worked out that way, but the only way to fix your situation is to find someone with the NA code who needs to trade as badly as you do.

What people ignore is fact that as far as business goes, Square Enix is shit. This was an example.

Well here's the thought process.
buy from NA for NA. EU for EU and JP for JP
HOWEVER.
NA/EU server list in same thing.
Why would a NA/EU code not work for both since its going on the same server.
Adding on, why would they then not offer to EXCHANGE the code. Make EU code unusable and give you a NA code. Since NA is sold out, this would create another subscriber and another source of income for the company, instead of what this representative did.

Basically HORRID rep. He could have gotten another subscriber and business for his company by doing something simple. There loss. With all the errors for login. And now the lag and delay compatibility error created from the new 10 hour maintenance patch... i'm currently about to cut my losses pretty soon.

Your example does not mesh. If federal law abolished the law entirely, replacing it permanently, your example would be correct. The businesses are not changing law, replacing it with a new one; there is no litigation. The original use of the word is out of context. You intended to say local businesses cannot disregard the law.

I paid money for the game.. that's all that should matter.. they should simply issue me a code for the region my account is in... telling me that im shit out of luck just because of the place I purchased the item from is ridiculous.. that's like saying if I go to Wal-Mart in another country that I am not entitled to the goods I purchased when I get home because im not in the other country anymore.. its ridiculous..

oh and I do understand regions.. my point is there is no difference between the American and EU copies of the game.. not to mention.. their European servers are right here in north America... there should be no regional difference between the two..

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would want to pay $30 bucks for the pre-order items, but thats beside the point, to each their own I guess.

I am also not sure why you pre-order and purchase games from a UK website..I mean whats the benefit of purchasing from another country?

Either way I think this is something that SE is dropping the ball on as far as customer service. I mean do they really want to make someone so mad that they consider not subbing to the game..over 2 digital items? It literally would cost them nothing to help a fan out, who went out of his way to purchase a CE copy of the game...when he already got the game for FREE. Maybe its their policy and they don't want to break it..but c'mon this is a stupid move and they could make it right pretty easily and for no cost to them.

PRE ORDERED FROM UK BUT WANT FREE ITEMS ON A NA SERVER??? YES YOUR FAULT.
