Post your ideas for how to fix FATES

Like them are not they are here to stay in some way shape or form, we need to try and come up with a solution for the current FATE system.

I know most of these have probably already been posted somewhere but here is my suggestions please post your own.

* A limit on how fates you can do in a day/week whatever and get exp awarded. You are still allowed to get seals for your GC but you are only allowed so many exp rewards; something like the leve quest allowances.

* Significantly lower the spawn rate for fates, encouraging people to grind mobs in the zone while grouped up waiting for fates to get a nice burst of exp while chain grinding. This would also encourage people to do fates for their proper level instead of smashing lower level zones areas.

* Award a higher amount of GC seals for replaying dungeons than you can get from FATES, this would encourage more people to que into duty finder as an alternate method of getting GC seals than just leve quests and FATES.

* Award seals for chaining mobs in a group or solo. An extra bonus lets say 10 - 15% is added for chaining in the zones of your chosen GC territory encouraging you to meet other members of your GC but not limiting you to only grind in that region.

* Re add a server wide LFG system to help people group up. The hardest thing about grouping up now is you can only shout in your current zone, ask your linkshell or your FC; which can be limiting when looking for group members for content.

The only problem with this is that once you're leveling you other classes past your main fates become the main way to level. Dungeons don't give enough xp. In the 40s it takes roughly 8-9 runs usually to get a level. If you figure 30-40 mins a run that's 4 hours at best with no queue times. You can get that same level from fates in less then half the time.

Grinding mobs, while I like the idea, is not very efficient either. Even with high chains the mob xp simply is too low. If I need 420k to level and I am getting 200xp per kill that's not a very good ratio. At 250 xp per kill in order to get 420k I'd need to grind out 1680 mobs. Lets say the average time to kill a mob is 30 seconds (some more some less), that means I would need to mob grind for 14 hours to get ONE level.

Simply put, until they fix the xp gains from other sources FATEs are the way to go and that is why people do them constantly. There are no other ways that even come close when leveling. It's a huge problem

Do not allow people in parties getting experience except for stuff like Odin and Behemoth and maybe some bosses. Disable infinite spwans as well. There are fates where you can get 150k+ if you don't hand in items.

Also give more rewards for dungeons. For example based on how you do and it what time you do it.

Remove all Zergs, have all FATES be boss style fights, simple.

Have a join party pop up when entering a fate circle, similar to Rift, healing in Fates especially the higher level ones is a joke with no auto party.

This is common sense SE, foster some community play and force people to learn their class.

This Zerg nonsense is just bad !

Phase the FATEs so that there's not an overload of players hitting the same one unless they're in the same party. I dunno what's the recommended number of players at say a boss fight, maybe 20? So if 20 people are already at that one then everyone else attempting to join will enter a different phase with a different boss. That should help with both the lag and reduce zerging without all this reduce how many FATEs per day/week and gimme more coin.

* Lower spawn rates
* Higher rewards
* Longer durations with several phases
* More diversity
* Balance so that AoE / Ranged DPS isn't getting all the rewards

Fate XP is fine. Try leveling a second, third, or 8th class to 50 without it. If you don't like the rewards for fates because you think it makes getting to 50 to easy, how about you just don't do them? Nobody is forcing you to. People need to stop trying to impose their will on the rest of us. You don't speak for the whole playerbase.

They only thing they need to do is increase the amount of money that you get as a reward. Especially for level45+ fates. Gear repairs are stupid. With AF1 on my paladin I easily spend 1500 gil to repair after each dungeon.

Fates need to scale properly, make mobs hit much harder, make it spawn more bosses, if there's 100 people at a fate 3 more clones of the boss needs to spawn, as well as 10+ super powerful adds.

Not making fates the best exp would also make them less zergy, that's the most simplest form of fixing fates. Make fates chain, make them have story, make them take over towns, make it so if towns are taken over NPC's are taken and you need to rescue NPC's + take back the town. Add epic long zone fates that chain though the entire zone leading to a boss. Basically, copy guild wars 2 events.

There is no problem with Fates, If you power level to 50 with fates you screw yourself and no one else out of the entire game and its content. All raiding and dungeons in addition to things like materia creation and dying gear.

Don't stress it, just do fates in your down time and level the proper way so you unlock the game and let them come to the harsh realization that being 50 does nothing for you unless you also did the story while leveling.

Oh I don't know...

1) Prioritize loads as follows:
- Boss
- Trash monsters
- Party
- Party's companions
- Other NPCs
- Other PCs (not in party)

2) Reward tanks / healers for their contribution (tanks taking damage, healers healing); yes it does right now, but its not nearly on par with DPS who get gold by spamming AoE the whole time

3) Lower the amount of EXP as a whole that people get from FATES

4) Boost the amount of EXP from dungeons/leves so as to limit the amount of people spamming FATES (Make all avenues of attaining EXP on par with one another; FATES are such a lag fest, lets give people other ways of getting EXP that is on par with FATE grinding)

My ideas:

I think that perhaps FATEs should only take into account individual contributions: When people group for FATEs, they cannot queue for the Duty Finder. When people don't queue for the DF there are longer queues for those who want to do dungeons. Also, when people don't do dungeons, the zones are overloaded with groups of people going from FATE to FATE. FATE group controbutions also make it impossible for those who cannot find a group to ever get a gold medal, even if they really did a good job. Reward those who try, not those who zerg!

Increase the EXP from dungeons, decrease the EXP from FATES. Make FATE give more gold or items perhaps?

Decrease the rate of FATEs.

Add more quests to zones.

Increase the exp from other activities in the game and FATEs will take care of themselves at that point. Why cripple one of the few ways to consistently earn decent exp in this game? If a player decides to level through FATEs and skip the storyline or dungeons, then all he/she is doing is altering their own experience.

At this point my issues with FATEs are the lack of money from finishing them and the culling issues where the boss or randon enemies will start to disappear. I think the culling issue will work itself out as people quit once their free month is over.

I think solution should be global, not only FATE.
1) Make dungeon the best way to earn xp. Equivalent to current FATE. Make sellable and best gear drop rate lower. Make average gear as pink one drop rate higher.
The token farm of end game dungeon will make up for loss xp need.
Reason: Dungeons (and guildhest) are the only and best place where we learn how to play our job in a group.
1.1)Make guildhest completion reward available for each class once.

2) Make combat levequest the best way to earn money.
Reason: We roughly act as a mercenary on those, so that would make sense.

3) Make company leve the best way to get seals.
Reason: Do I have to tell why?

4)Make FATE the only way to get average reward of everything. That would keep the interest of doing FATE even at level cap.
Make the reward decrease slowly for each FATE done in the last x hours (for example 12).
Reason: FATE will then fulfill the original aim of being an unpredictable, efficient, and enjoyable break from everything.

5)Make an xp bonus for killing mob depending on the number and/or level of quest you have done in the area. Erase the 50% bonus for leveling jobs other than your highest.
Reason: That would automatiaclly solve the lack of a quest available, even on the scale of a buest-hub area.

The only real problem I see with fates is the lack of a player limit for it. I think setting a limit on how many people can take part in a fate would reduce the spell spamming zergfest fights that happen now.

Terrible idea, i think, because then you are boned if you try to do one and are in a zone that it's farmed. I'll do random ones i come across during questing, and if it's just me, those boss ones are near impossible to finish in the time. Making them all like that would just punish those who don't farm, as the farmers would take them down just as fast.

Maybe making them scale in difficulty with the amount of people around would help, i don't know though. People will always try and find the fastest xp/min, and do those the most.

My thoughts:

- Remove the culling in the Behemoth and Odin fights. It's retarded not being able to see the very thing you went out to fight 99% of the time.

- In large-scale battles like Behemoth and Odin, have a large, easily visible reward chest appear in the world in a designated spot for participating players to access after successfully defeating the necessary enemies.

- Encourage better rewards for high/max-level players that are scaled down in lower-level FATES. As a Lv50 PLD, I only get a measly 5 gil for helping out, and no exp. It'd be nice to see an alternative use for exp for something (not just from FATE's but in general), such as currency for buying specific items, merit points, etc.

- Don't lock us out of our moves/abilities when scaling down our level (this should go for dungeons too).

- Have more FATE "chains" and meta-events where one FATE leads to another, or different FATE's can occur depending on the outcome of a previous one (such as successfully or unsuccessfully defending a camp from beastmen, etc.).

- Be wary of FATE placement in regards to other quest/leve locations, gathering nodes, etc.

Reduce XP given by fates by 40-50% based upon the number of people partaking, maybe even more. This is to counteract the fact that by completing a FATE in mere seconds for full exp, it gets more effective to zerg them, thus reducing any sort of effort required to zero.
Additionally, reduce FATE spawnrate based on players present in the zone. Why would the beastmen insist on fighting when there is an army waiting for them already? This makes travelling through zones for fates a possibility, and doesnt pool everyone into the same zone.

SE is just too lazy to make a proper FATE

This is what it did in GW2 (And in my opinion, GW2 did this best)

- The "FATE", aka Real Time Event, in GW2 are in fact normal quest. There are only a few "exclamation mark" on the map.
- RTE usually are a chain of 3 or more together.
- The RTE in GW2 take nearly an hour or more to respawn. Especially with boss RTE like the dragon, it might take several hours. They do not take "minute" to respawn like what SE did

SE is just lazy and made FATE into a zerg fest. They don't need to fix its exp, just increase the time between each one to 1 hour, boss FATE to 2 hours or more and that will be it. No more farm.

The problem is how piss awful dungeons are. The encounters are fun, but the rewards are pathetic.

Monster experience is pathetic.

Boss/Mini-Boss rewards are pathetic.

Random loot chests are pathetic.

There REALLY is zero reason to repeat dungeons prior to the end-game dungeons for their scarce loot.


Seriously, when people first do dungeons in the lower tiers they're so horribly disappointed by the repeat rewards they swear off repeating ANY dungeon until 50, for good.

"Why would I spend 60minutes on a dungeon for a 1/6th of my level bar, and essentially zero loot, when I can spam Fates for 60minutes and almost make an entire level, and get about 2000 gil?"


Seriously, piss poor design for Dungeons, and don't get me started on how WORTHLESS Trials are, especially the story-blocking ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


Fix fates? Your best bet is to make Dungeons ACTUALLY worth doing. :mad:

IMO buffing XP of everything else up would not be healthy for the long-term experience. And it would hurt crafters even more.

Simple solution would be to bring FATEs down to be on par with the rest XP-wise, or alternatively make them much more difficult. The current Whack-a-Mole state of FATEs is just too easy and rewarding in comparison to everything else. The Grand Company rewards would be good enough to keep people in even after an XP nerf.

Sadly it's always a lot harder to make things more difficult and to require more effort on MMOs than to make stuff easier and more effortless. The more people get used to the added convenience and easiness, the more of an uproar it will cause if that convenience is taken away from them.

Which fates give you this much?

They mean the ones people grind in instead of complete the objective, just sit there and aoe tag monsters until the timer is almost up. Dark Devices and a few others employ this.

I think more encouragement into dungeons and less into FATEs would be a bad idea. The servers don't seem big enough to handle many instances that I fear we'd get a lot of "Instance server is full, unable to enter dungeon" or similar errors, especially in these early weeks when people are playing their free trial and spamming everything they can for gear/levels. But the FATEs are definitely causing issues in areas with so many players doing AOE and causing massive lagging that I'm convinced that phasing FATE fights is probably the best solution for both avoiding lag and zerging.

My personal addition : in most FATES, mobs usually die way too fast especially when there are many players involved. Scaling is actually broken the way it is and this completely spoils the fun. Please SE, be wiser than Anet in this regard, I know you can. We certainly cannot avoid the mess, this is in the nature of open world events, but we can easily make mobs harder to kill, at least.

Just to echo what seems to be a shared sentiment, please bring contribution from healing (for healers) and damage taken/mitigated (for tanks) up to par with contribution provided by damage dealt. It is laughable that, as a WHM, my best bet at maxing contribution in FATEs was to tab-aero (or, at later levels, stand in the middle of a pack and mash Holy). Healers would get to play their class as intended, DPS and tanks get healed in order to keep on fighting. Seems like everyone wins, right?

I actually like FATEs a lot as it makes the open world a bit more lively than it would be if people only sat in town queued for dungeons. The issue of undergeared and/or underskilled players coming out of the woodwork due to FATE grinding is more than a mere non-issue, but it is not something I can really comment on since I usually run with friends.

FATES are here to stay, I myself dungeon grinded to 50 with quests mixed in here and there. I agree that it is cheese mode, and supports this new instant gratification style of MMO play that has seemed to trend here recently with all the games in this genre that have release in the last 5 or so years. I have played both sides, as in GWII I was a member of the titan alliance on Hendge of Denravi , beat Rift in a few weeks, Star Wars in a few weeks. This time I plan on playing a while, and didn't FATE grind because I didn't want to ruin this game and have some fun for once.

With this said, the only thing I see wrong with the FATES "other than the ones you can spam grind mobs in this is broken" is the frequency at which they appear on the map is to much, adjust this to some lesser degree and I think we have a winner.

i have all the battleclasses at 50 from 1.0.
Atm im enjoying my acn/smn/sch. Im lvl 48 and tbh i get annoyed by the limited/boring choices i have to level. I have no quests anymore. Leves are "ok" but they are all the same.
"Fates" like they are done in GW2 are in general a lot better, especially the "chain-fates".

You start at an outpost that is under beastcontrol => you attack it with npcs, when you manage to get the oupost under your control, after a short time, they start to put troops together to start an attack. So the npcs go for the bigger
Beastmen oupost to capture it. It happens in like 3-6 Stages. Each gives xp etc. Its also harder so not everyone can just simply bio- bio -bio through it and get max xp like in ARR. in the end there is a boss usually.

when you win, xp etc. again. Then the area is mainly under the "good boys" control but the beastmen ofc wanna get it back. So after a while they come with lotsa troops to get their stronhold back => then if successeful they attack the friendly outposts as well and try to bring it under control.

1) make fates more like chain events. not stupid random monster "pops"
2) make them harder. Make it so a dot class also has use, not only dps AOE like crazy, thats it.
3) make the mobs last longer/better scaling when there are more ppl around. By the time you are near a fate most of them are already done. That is annoying and stupid.

4) give us more higher lvl mobs and areas to grind xp in parties. Not everyone likes that. But its far better to learn your job on higher mobs then spam fates. You can easily get lvl 50 and suck healing lvl 16 instance...
And im pretty sure ppl like that idea too.
Add areas in beastmen strongholds with monster lvl 55-60. This cannot be so hard but im pretty sure ppl will like it. And the game really needs it as an option to level. Ppl have a big load of jobs to level and this is a good option imo.

5) please dont just add more fed-ex quests or kill 5 marmot quests to level. that is even worse then spamming fates.... its ok for one job/class but for... more then 2 and you shoot yourself

Please eliminate ALL AoE in ALL FATE... If u want to join a fate, just click a button like lvl sync and than your AoE ability will be disable... : )

When you earned skills, you don't expect them to be disabled without a good reason (and I mean a RP reason, not just for the sake of gameplay). There are many things that SE can do to FATE before resorting to such heresy.

As others have mentioned, give better exp for other things. If dungeons/chain killing/etc give better exp, fewer people do fates thus evening out the numbers a bit. The main problem I see right now is that they don't seem to scale. The difficulty is the same whether there's 2 people or 20 people. If there's only 2 people, you're fairly likely to fail some of them which makes it hard if you're not online in NA prime (certain areas). If there's 20 people, you're lucky to get one hit per mob.

Lower the difficulty with fewer people, make it progressively harder as more people show up. Depending on the increase in difficulty, it may encourage people to break up into small groups rather than going as one giant one.

You shouldn't have to put limits/lower rewards to try and drive people away from an event. Just provide alternatives that are more appealing to a good number of people (dungeons/grinding mobs).

I don't think FATEs need to be something you can farm, running back and forth. They need to be dynamic events that don't happen very often.

But FATEs can only be normalized for leveling speed with the rest of the game when the game adds more content and more viable leveling options. For now their current state is a necessary evil.
