Really, that's so annoying, queue for Ifrit Hard pops, no BLM or SMN, we have to leave cuz it's impossible to kill the nails and now we have a 15 mins penalty when leaving a dungeon early. Making specific classes essential for a fight is not good at all. Anyone managed to kill Ifrit hard without casters?

Nails are easy as hell to kill without a caster, and thats coming from a BLM. Our tank popped the LB like an idiot before nails came up and we still killed ifrit

Downed Ifrit Hard easily with all Melee DD's. It can be done. It's not the easiest way, but it's not impossible. I also remember Yoshida saying he wanted to avoid people needing or wanting a certain job more than the other.

Got a Duty Finder random group with Paladin, Warrior, Scholar, White Mage, Monk, Monk, Dragoon, Summoner and we focused down all the nails 1 by 1 without using any limit breaks. Having Scholar and Summoner multi-DoT + 3 melee and the off-tank beating on the nails took them down with plenty of time to spare.

Our first strategies didn't even include Limit Break 3s...and we did it just fine with Meeles using LBs on single Nails. LB3 with Meteor is just the "easy" way to do it to make sure the Nails go down in time, even if the DPS sucks.
I did a DF kill w/o a caster as well, most people just don't like doing it. -

Problem is that the average joes joining the DF are really bad geared(FATE zergers that still have ilvl 30 gear) and incredibly bad at teamwork.Now dont get me wrong there are alot of good palyers doing DF and i've had the pelasure to play with them many times, but i guess ppl just wants to play it safe with Ifrit so they want to have a caster in the grp as it makes killing the nails trivial.

- First of all, if the DPS is decent you can kill all 4 nails
- Caster LB3 -> AE 4 nails, finish them 4 off
- Melee LB3 One nail -> finish it, kill the others
- Kill 3 nails, ignore the 4th, tank LB3 to survive the AOE
Tried them all successfully -

And once a black mage missed the nails with the LB... oh well, like Awake said, many randoms without a clue are joining. -

The girlfriend hasn't had any issues taking down Ifrit without a caster. Of course, now that most people assume you do need one, as soon as people see there isn't a BLM or SMN in the group they bail. It usually comes down to knowing what strategy to use in what conditions. That difficult thing is getting these kinds of ideas out of others' heads, but it's a normal thing to want to do something in the easiest/simplest form possible and this is one of them. In this case, a dedicated stun for Eruptions and a BLM/SMN LB3 to take out the nails quicker. It's like class stacking all over again.
It will probably be easier with players (in a no BLM/SMN group) if they a) know what they are doing, and b) are reasonable geared/skilled to be able to kill the nails quick enough. But as more and more are getting through the story now, you will start to see players who don't know what they are doing/aren't really prepared for the hard content, and with the Duty Finder it's quite easy to find those players. -

The only problem is, in order to get any progression done at all at level 50 is to do HM Ifrit first. Thats all there is to it. This game is completely backwards. you have to do 8 man raids in order to do small group content endgame. So complaining about low geared/new people in ifrit is a bit like complaining about getting wet after falling out of a boat.
On topic. Yeah, you don't actually " NEED " A blm/smn for lvl3 lb, but its nice to have to make things go cleaner. Got through it just fine with 3 DRG and a Bard. All DPS do front. Single target lvl3 lb on rear one. Proceed to run to second rear one and attack it while all the other dps work on front 2. As soon as lb1 is available, nuke the second rear one. -

Ok, I don't wanna be one of those "Get a mage dps or gtfo" guys, so I really want to know the best strategy for beating the nails the old fashioned way.
Obviously, a lvl 3 LB will 1 shot the first nail, and net you at least 1 full bar in return. What next? Do you use that 1 bar right away on the next, or do you beat it down, then use 2 bars on the next?
Would like to have a consistent strategy, but these pickup groups tend to derp out hard when the nails appear and dont focus. -

About the AK/Palace DPS checks. High DPS makes those fights faster and easier, but the DPS check is not nearly as harsh as people make it look like. You just need to know how to deal the most damage with your class. I outDPS other BRDs in Full Darklight and Garuda Bow, while I'm wearing Toxotes Set and an Ifrits Bow with lousy Lvl 48 Jewelry...only cause of one reason...they don't know how to play their class properly. They do 130ish DPS on Ifrit, while I do 170...
It is not always the case...but in FFXIV it definetely is...Skill>>>Gear.
