FF14 2.0 Initial Concept Graphics Vs. ARR/Retail Graphics

Please tell me you guys will allow people to make graphic mods for the game using the ENBSeries so that we can achieve the same look as the concept screenshot.

Yes, but in this case I specifically asked for them to not to make it of their own volition, but to allow the use of mods to achieve that effect.

Take Skyrim as an example. They could've made the textures and lightning super awesome out of the box, but then not many people would be able to run it. Yet, projects like ENBSeries exist because there exists some people who *can* push their system further.

Remember... SE calls that "Memory Limitations". They can't directly blame the PS3, so they invented a hilariously obvious phrase to say "even though Yoshi himself has gone on the record saying the PS3 will never hold the game back, day 1 we're already seeing that happen through the inventory UI because "memory limitations".

I have heard they plan on adding DX11 to the game. if they did, you'd see graphic quality rise, because then we'd have the 'low spec/PS3" client, and the "High spec/PS4" client. So they'd be able to have all the better graphic options in teh DX11 client, without stressing unduly the lower end systems.

Because then people can just use the client their PC is capable of running, and we don't have the limitations of inferior hardware affecting those of us who pour thousands into top notch gaming rigs.

Also, in their concept they have a ton more inventory slots! :)

You're right I didn't notice that till now...

Screw inventory slots anyways. Even their Chocobo's FUR looks more realistic compared to mine which looks "plastic".

Because those PC only mmo's are all free to play. :)

While the OP might have noted directly that it's a graphics issue, there are a multitude of issues already in the game that we can blame on consoles, even if SE blames it on "memory limitations".

I do understand that SE hardly has the resources to have (at least at this point) an entire team devoted to making changes to the PC, and a team that sit's on it's ass dealing with those "limitations". But, that really is the case. I think the game looks pretty as is. a DX11 reskin will be amazing and is coming, so, I don't care about that. But things like player titles, a better inventory other than a silly icon-only 4-square view and the general level of freedom we have over the UI elements would all be welcome changes that currently cannot even be considered due to those pesky "memory limitations".

Clearly youve never played EVE, Aion, or Tera.

Also this game is not even running on modern shaders because that would have made the ps3 version look bad.

We are getting DX11 when the ps4 version launches, but they will still limit what the PC can do because it would make consople players feel bad.

That being said FFXIV is still the best looking MMO on the market.

Because it's the norm to take the easy way out, even if many are quick to shout out, "Not I!"

Graphics developers need to cater to the lowest common denominator (in this case, the dirt cheap hamster farms some people like to call a computer), and it's much easier to force everyone to play with crappy, plastic looking jagged edged graphics than to make a decent graphics slider that, at the bottom, has settings even my grandmother's computer could run, and at the top, has ones that put my rig to the test.

If everyone could afford and had the know-how to put together at least a decent gaming rig, and developers didn't mind taking the time to make amazingly detailed games instead of just pushing out something that looks, as you put it, like a graduate student whipped up in his spare time (despite knowing that you'll pay for the worse looking version anyway) we wouldn't have these issues, but alas that is not the case.

To bad you will never see anything open world like that in this game. A full party fighting a hard mob in open world? ; ; without it being a spam fest.

I was pretty sure Yoshi already said he's interested in allowing Skyrim like add-ons to improve graphics. They aren't at the stage yet where they can work on that though. Right now they are still trying to get the servers to where people that want to play, can actually play.

That's why I asked for them to allow people to make graphics mods/filters for it. A game like Skyrim has a BUCKET LOAD worth of graphics mods for it, cuz people said, "We can make it look better than the ppl who made the game. If your machine can handle it, download our mod."

Developers have to make a game that both looks good AND is playable on most systems.

Modders are not restricted by that, since a mod is completely optional.

Go to DX11 64bits and lets unlock the true graphisms.

that's the thing I don't get with the constanct whining about the PS3 limitations. a lot of people are playing this game on computers worse, if not much worse, than the PS3 'limits'. it's ridiculous to expect the majority of MMO player actually have an 'up to date' 2000+ system just because the vocal ones constantly have to point out how much their PC rules.

my desktop is borked so I currently play on my laptop. I can assure game looks better on ps3 than it does on lowest pc settings, even when not played in HD...

People can cry about PS3 limitations all they want but they fail to realise that not many Japanese have gaming PC's like we do in NA/EU. Oh, and the game is Japanese by the way, so yea it's never going to change. Might want to get used to it.

The original ffxiv 1.0 ran like a dog on my computer, and it was a pretty high end one at the time, although a year old when released. It's one of the reasons i quit, besides the real lack of feeling like there was a point to playing anymore. Yeah, looked great at the time, if i maxed everything and got 10fps. To be playable to me i had to lower to close to half or less settings, and it looked average then. This game runs great maxxed for me now, and i realize not everyone has as good a computer. that's the point, the more people that can play, the better. I do hope they upgrade the graphics at some point, there are some oddities i don't get, but i'm happy. Look at WoW, being able to be played on even relatively low end pcs has helped them more than hurt them.

Also, concepts are never real life, it's to show a feeling, or an idea of what the goal is. I'm betting not one thing in the concepts are even animated, using higher mesh models, effects, all that. Just compare to concept cars shown at auto shows, you will most likely never see one hit the road for consumers, the only one that really has is the New Beetle by VW, mostly because it wasn't as over the top as most concept cars. Same in gaming. Only upon release will you know what it really is like.

World of warcraft also spent a long time optimizing their code so the game ran smoothly on all types of machines, poor or great. It was not so early in the game's life, and they did improve on it, but the fact remains that improvements were made. The same thing can be done here, even with this style of graphics instead of the cartoon style WoW uses, but I understand that it wouldn't be as much of a priority at the moment as pure content and server stability.

Weren't there talks of releasing a hi-res texture pack alongside the DX11 upgrade as well? I *vaguely* remember it, so don't take it as fact :/
