I agree, adding an auto afk log would do wonders for server loads from the people who log in and just stay there logged in even when they're not there playing.
do you know this would only affect ps3 users right ? The world is full of 3° party tool to avoid afk kick
No.
YoshiP has already stated AFK users are not the cause of server strain. In the coming weeks and months we will see less people swarming the servers at the same time. There will be less issue with people loging in then. The ability to go eat lunch and come back is a great feature for the game. The game even has an /afk icon. The developers had people being away as an intended feature.
I would like to see character stores again in the form of Bazaars. FFXI had plenty of people AFK all night to sell their wares outside of the auction house. I await such features again.
No. The entire bazaar system revolves around being logged in.
they may even need to increase capacity yet again, and of course fix the dreaded other errors that are still occuring.
they will indeed get everything running smooth, afk timer is not the solution long term.
/nope
You realize that this is less than 12 hours after a pretty big overhaul... There will be some quirks. I'm not defending them in total, because honestly, there should have been a better clue as to requirements. But, IT isn't always a solid science.
That's funny, because this post from Yoshi-P (that is stickied on these very forums, no less) greatly contradicts what you just said.

Resolving AFK Character Issues
"From several users on some of our more congested Worlds, we have received requests for a feature which automatically logs out characters who are AFK for an extended period of time. We are actively looking into the implementation of such a feature, but have decided to first concentrate our efforts on increasing the number of Worlds and optimizing the Duty Finder servers."
In short, it is something that they are working on and will be implemented but unfortunately is not on the top of their to-do list at the moment in lieu of these server problems.
See above. They never said that, and will be working on an AFK kick feature.
SE already stated AFK people aren't the cause, therefore kicking people won't do anything, they filled up faster because more people are getting on now. Funny how that works, huh?
Most people that play on PC does - Even ignoring the semantics, most that seriously play the game uses at minimum a Parser while there are LS/FCs that uses full fledged bots that won't admit to it.
There's no contradiction in it as that snippet doesn't say:
"People that are AFK are the reason you can no longer log in."
In order to contradict what Yoshi stated earlier, he would have to say: "The reason you can't log in is because there are people AFK for long periods of time.
I'm pretty sure people can find a way to avoid being afk loggedout.
So if the AFK people is not a problem why tones of people are leaving there character logged in for hours just to play later?
Yes there should be auto logout if you are afk 30 min. No reason you should be taking up space when the server is full and people who want to play can't get in.
Auto run into a wall.
Stay logged in.
These afk kickers won't do anything. Yoshi has already said it is not the issue and by the time they implement something like this, if they even do, it will be after the server issues are dealt with and it will no longer be a problem anyways.
Whether the AFK players are affecting anything or not, SE please consider implementing a timer anyway. Because:
1. People who are having difficulties logging in have a hard time accepting that a world is full when its obvious characters are logged in that don't have a human behind them currently. If they didn't have that to lash out at, it would make people more accepting of the "World is Full" message I think.
2. It is forcing people who otherwise would log out and go about their daily business to stay logged in, but not playing. Surely, this is adding more strain to the servers and there is no reason in this game to encourage that is there? Every Aetheryte camp has a bunch of people standing there staring at the crystal and not moving for hours. Is that really necessary to encourage?
Players generally let their character AFK while they sleep, eat or go to work BUT they are playing during "prime-time". Your inability to log during that "prime-time" has nothing to do with AFK players. The fact that only 7800 players can be logged in at the same time is the reason why. I suspect there are about 10000-12000 players on each server wanting to play during prime-time.
AFK players aren't the problem... the popularity of this game is overwhelming the servers (if everyone creating a character on a server could play, your issue would be solved).
Doing an "Auto-Logout" is just like putting a blaster on an open wound... it will continue to bleed (only a bit slower) and you will still have an open-wound.
And if/when they add the auto boot afk system. All that does is raise the amount of free spots. Once all the people online are actively playing and you still get the "world is full" message, what are you going to do. Complain about all the people playing then beg for them to implement a "only play one hour, every 24 hours" feature that will auto boot you after youve played an hour and puts your account on temp 24 hour lockdown before you can log back in?
To add to IronSoup's comment.
If you properly search a Server on Lodestone. You will figure out a rough estimate of the characters made. Roughly 20,000 characters made on Excalibur alone.
7,800 allowed on the server yet 20,000 total.
So yes an AFK kicker is pointless as the demand is multiple times higher then some AFK ppl currently. Excalibur can't even allow half its users on atm with the throttling.
I don't understand why FFXIV team refuses to acknowledge that an auto-logout is needed. All you get is "we'll look into it". It's not like characters are selling items directly from their inventory like in 1.0. So, please add an autolog out feature for anyone that's AFK for a set period of time. :)
I'm glad my post made you laugh! Unfortunately, you have read a message which isn't there. To reiterate, I rather not see such a AFK kicker implemented because in the explanations from YoshiP's past responses of server issues, AFK users weren't the cause. I did not say it wasn't being discussed or implemented. I just really hope that if it is indeed implemented, it allows for bazaars or any other afk features. Again, I emphasize the existence of the /afk icon as evidence that the developers intended for people to be away from their computers for an extended period of time. If that was not enough, we are able to accumulated rested experience while in a sanctuary while AFK. If they indeed intended for us to not be afk, they could easily strip that feature to "log out online" or even put a timer to make it less desirable.
So what? Instead of getting rid some off them you choose to doing nothing? Nice logic. And there are many different ways to detect that player is AFK or not even though he use some sort of automate program. Yeah some of them will surely can cheat it eventually, but a lot of them won't and by the time that most of them can figure it out, I bet that servers will be more stabilized and no need of that thing amymore.
So let me get this straight. Not being able to log on has nothing to do with AFK players. It has to do with the fact that there's a cap on the number of players that can be logged in at one time. Are you trying to say that AFK players don't count as logged in? Because they do. Sure, it'll still be frustrating to have a full server but damn is it easier to take when it's because the world is full of people playing, not full of idle toons that no one is using.
People will ALWAYS find a way around it. You don't have to use a 3rd party program.Umm, rubber bands around a controller to make your character run around anyone? Complaining about the afk people is pointless. Until they implement it, then why continue to make more and more of these type of threads???????
