Since when were they lifting that restriction?
Logins and creations limited after maint to make sure the servers done explode. Go get some sleep, go outside, play another game, and try in a few hours.
Many previously locked servers are now unlocked. You just happen to be on a particularly packed one. Server transfers open sometime in september; perhaps you should tell your friends to start on a less packed server, then transfer to play with them when it becomes available.
The general happiness of the server at large > the personal happiness of you and your friends.
Unfortunately it seems the legacy servers are particularly full. I think they underestimated how many legacy players would have bunches of friends joining them. I myself still have two people that can't get on to play with us on Excalibur. It sucks, but what can you do? Raging won't help matters.
An unfortunate consequence all online games face. You can't have infinite players on a single server and thus restrictions are placed on them.
All I can say is that if you intended to play with your friend you should have done it sooner.
Blizzard had at one time 12 million players and never restricted Character Creation.
They didn't mess up anything. You're the one that chose one of the biggest servers, that is your own fault. You do know that is the reddit community server, right?
there are some worlds which are full from the start of early access till yesterday (such as Tonberry) but it's open today
some of legacy servers are open too (such as Masamune)
Firstly, of course WoW had limitations on the number of players per server. Secondly, quoting that number is meaningless. It took years for them to reach their peak, they had considerable time to continuously improve their capacity in line with the rate of growth of player numbers.
I love how everyone is glancing over this as almost "This is OP's fault". no no no, this is crap. Just because something is popular doesn't mean you get shafted because you are playing there. I've got a a couple people still trying to make new characters on Excalibur and to not expand its capacity along with the rest is just inconsiderate. None of this "Oh its your bad" , this is SE's bad plain and simple. Yes, its a Legacy server. No, we can't transfer to another server (legacy characters can't be moved to non-legacy servers). SE just needs to fix this.
SE just needs to give us the ability to apply to a free server transfer as a group (of course while observing the legacy restrictions).
That's all they need to do; but I also think they need to do this soon.
should be no reason to lock a server, SE messed up they should of never let more accounts on the server then it could handle.
@Whoever said Blizzard still had caps: Yeah, they did, However they NEVER implemented Character Creation Restriction. This is the first time i've ever seen that in any MMO i've played, might it be Rift, Aion, WoW, SWTOR, name it.
This is the first time I've ever seen that happen. And don't tell me Square doesn'T have they money to make it happen. They just simply don't care.
Heh, Jah you seem to over simplify others perspective. Obviously its more that simply adding another HDD to the mix, but its not too far from truth for whats involved. The character data is simply stored on the server archive. This is limited (not usually by memory, there is likely plenty of space on those HDD's ;) ) But rather by the ratio of what they believe 'max vs active' will be. They want to not degrade the experience for those who are already logged in. They simply should have increased the max amount of active connections. Adding more allowed active connection to the world is possible they just didn't really approach it from that aspect it seems. Instead they relied on 2 new world creations to give more options for people to go to to solve the problem.
If there are too many people trying to log into a world, then let that be the players choice to tough it out and wait in queue etc...but to not let the players even TRY to belong to a world is really a poor choice.
The biggest problem was not adding more legacy servers when the legacy server transfers took place. Early last year servers were merged together based on a population count of active players. So when you give all those inactive players a free ticket into ARR you've got two server loads of people trying to cram on to one, plus any others who transferred in. Server splits are the only real way to get around the issue. Open up a few new legacy servers and allow free transfers from over populated servers to the new servers. This happened in the early days of XI.
Sorry but I have to stop you there because your statement is utterly false. There were a handful of servers that had character creation blocked during the Vanilla/BC days. You probably didn't notice cause it was 2 servers out of a kajillion or you didn't play the game back then.
Yoshi P. has stated a thousand times now that he underestimated the population surge that this launch ended up having. They are dealing with it the best they can. We need to show some patience. Even the best MMOs have a retention rate of like 30% these days. Most of the kiddies won't be logging on a month from now and we'll have transfers then.
Tell your friends to start a toon on a server of their choice and transfer later or just wait it out and play another game in the mean time.
I would gladly migrate away from Excalibur in the first place. Had I known this server would be overrun by 1.0 transfers, I wouldn't have even moved my 1.0 char there. I doubt SE will allow free transfers from overcrowded worlds but they might open world transfers before the originally scheduled date since its such a problem.
do what everything else on earth does. if you have capacity for 100 you dont allow 1000. once you hit that 100 you stop letting things in. they did it in 1.0 they lock out the server once capacity was hit even showed how full a server was.
It's funny how all you Final Fantasy FAN BOYS brush this problem off, but this is the first time in ANY MMO Release or not that I couldn't get onto the server my friends are on. It's really just crap we have to go to whatever random server SE Tells us to. If this isn't fixed, and soon this game is gonna go down the toilet just like it's 1.0 counterpart.
Seriously considering not even playing this game if I have to freaking PAY to transfer my toon there when I should've been able to make him on the server in the first place. It's totally unfair. I don't wanna play with a bunch of people I DON'T KNOW! This is by far the worst MMO release I have ever experienced. Is there a way we can return this game digitally?
I definitely don't understand this at this point, if they are going to continue to block character creation they definitely need Server Transfers now and to be free. I've brought 2 or 3 people to the game to play with me, but given all the character restriction limits it's at the point where we are all spread out.
I was giving SE the benefit of the doubt and figured they would get there things in order with the most recent update to equipment. That clearly was a missed mark.
They better have some kind of refund process, because this is becoming inexplicable. "We found the problem, we fixed the problem.. except for some servers.."
Anyone suggesting to give it time and go play another game why would they return to the current abomination? It pains me to say that too because gameplay is truely amazing, but without the systems to support a growing and vibrant playerbase they are relegating themselves to disaster.
well 6 of my my friends arent gonna play now cause they cant get excalibur. and im the asshole now making them buy the game.
Excalibur was full long before this.
Oh, every single JP server is now Character Creation Locked. Who believed last maintenance would actually do anything ?
I'm sure Excalibur is over-packed with characters. With a name like Excalibur, I'm sure it's a server a lot of people try to pick first.
I mean, look at Balmung, horrible name (insignificant sword as well I believe), unless they're pulled to the server because of the RP status, it's going to be people last choice in picking servers :(
I'm not "white knighting" this (great game btw) but a lot of people had a chance to get on a full server the first night of early access. The catch was you had to get on the servers at lets say 3:30 or 4:00am, create your character and go to bed. I know this because I did this for my girlfriend and a bunch of my friends when I got up for work. I made sure all of our friends got on the same server. Not to mention that you got the email ages ago about server transfer and status on how crowded they were. I originally was on Excalibur on 1.0 and after seeing the e-mail stating how overcrowded it was I transferred myself to Ragnarok and have had zero issues since. You should have paid more attention.
If Server Transfers would've been allowed by then, yeah I would've switched. But re-leveling a lvl 50 ? F* that lol.
So many fanboys/White Knights, this is ridiculous.
They messed their launch big time, what's wrong with pointing the obvious. They f*cked it up with v 1.0 because it was a bad game, and now there are messing up because of a bad server infrastructure.
They KNEW yesterday that we were MILLIONS to play this game. Why the hell did they only enhanced the servers by a small margin ? Excalibur (along with 3 others like Hyperion) have been locked since Early Access...
So yeah, I said it last night; I am not surprised at all. It was expected. Yeah, I had that one little sparkle of hope that got destroyed the moment my friend tried to create his character.
What bothers me, is that this restrictions are not affecting RMT s !!!! How they manage to get in, banned, and get back in ??
Waiting from launch (Sept. 27) to get some friends in.
Simple have your friends start on another server and once they all get in you make a character on there or wait until server transfers.
My friends have been trying to make a character on excalibur since release, at this point i'm willing to just transfer to one of the new servers if either is legacy -_-;;
