Black Mage needs a buff to allow casting while Moving.

Edit: to make it clear I want an ability that will give like 20 seconds of cast while moving with a cooldown. to help with situations that can potentially cripple us compared to other classes.

After doing several end game dungeons/fights I really feel this is needed to keep BLM on par.

Why I feel it is NEEDED.
There are many battles with numerous AOEs that need to be dodged and a standing BLM casting it's rotation becomes somewhat unfeasible. It puts our DPS incredibly sub par.

Other things it will help with.
It would give a us a BLM only ability that would feel like a reason for the job gem. ATM all the BLM abilities lack a bit, replace crap like Apocatastasis with a 20 duration 40 recast buff that allows casting while moving.

I won't effect our standing DPS which is on par with other DDs.

Roleplay, and Histroy wise no caster is able to cast whilst moving. Only instant casts (without cast time) should be castable when moving. As caster naturally needs to focus a bit when casting is unable to do so whilst moving/running around.
(Guild Wars 2 is one of the few exceptions on this subject)

I would rather say Black Mage needs job abilities(you get via leveling) that are instant-cast and lots of damage... rather than buff to cast everything on the move.

Doing archer lv.15 for Black Mage was fun because you were able to fight on the move, I really miss that with Black Mage.

That would be why you call it Void Focus or something and it makes you just float on Aether so you are not actually moving around, You are standing casting but the magic is lifting and moving you while standing.

I don't think instant cast is the right answer either, it takes away from the spell casting aspect of the class. Standing there for a few seconds charging a massive damage spell is very satisfying.

You have scathe and the ability to make any spell instacast on cooldown. You sacrifice damage for mobility.

Yes we do sacrifice damage for mobility and that is the problem. We sacrifice pretty much all of our damage for mobility, scathe and 1 spell don't help at all compared to Fire spam. And considering our standing DPS is on par with other DD classes who can move without much hassle to their rotation it really cripples the whole class.

So you are right Scathe and 1 instant cast ability is pretty worthless and we need another solution.

Attempt to play a melee character while moving and following a mob. Yeah, good luck with that.

Really, if anything I can see MAYBE having a few instant cast ability fillers, but being able to cast and move would just be to OP and rather stupid. No class really does good dps while moving, some can handle it better then others but NONE are meant to be spamming while moving around making you an unstopable kite machine. It ends an element of timing you need to account for.

Yes, I feel the lat on using abilities should be improved which should improve the ability to cast and move effectively, but I see no reason to actually give instant cast.

In DDO you were able to cast everything on the move(not comparing the games, just loaning an idea from it). With big spells you still had cast bar but you were able to move while casting it; it just slowed you down.

The idea: No instant casts but slower movement when casting on the move. Perhaps? And not with all spells, perhaps with just few.

u serious? blm is fine, there is no change needed. if so all other jobs, especially melee ones need an update, did u know, that f.e. a drg cant use styles if the mob moves! :D

Black Mage is fine. maybe if you took the time to learn the fights and get your rotation down to mussle memory you wouldn't lose as much DPS as u think.

Yeah, black mage definitely needs to have the only single weakness it possesses removed. Wait...no. Seriously, this weakness is the ONLY part of the BLM kit that isn't better than everybody. You can also mitigate virtually all of its issues through planning and skilled play. Leave it.

I wouldn't worry about this. Ff history blm will be hands down top burst dmg. Beside I enjoy having to think about if I have enough time to finish the spell before being KO ed or not. Your asking for SE to dumb the game down in case you didn't relize...

If they do want some way of giving mages mobility while casting, this would be the best route IMO, definitely preferable to an instant cast ability. Maybe the same speed as when under the effect of heavy would work.

Just wondering how something like this may play into PvP.

Maybe they should do job traits like after using fire, 25% chance the next fire will be cast instantly or something like that.

That wouldn't do much to mitigate OP's problem. You'd still only be able to cast once on movement intensive parts of combat, and that's IF you happened to get the proc on your last cast before movement was required.

Not to mention it would boost their standing DPS quite significantly.

Sure. And maybe add a 4000000% damage buff on your spell if you chose not to move ? And if by mistake you get hit by an aoe, have a shield that redirect all the damage to the ennemy who casted it ?

Leveled SMN to 50 and now bringing BLM and ARC to 50 as well, I'm noticing how bad it feels to have to stand still with the BLM, but that's the way it should be, that's the point of having different classes, each with their own strengths and weaknesses...

It's the limits of other classes that make me realize the strong points of some and vice versa.

You need Quelling Strikes as well, and Virus is nothing special but still better to have.

Black Mage or in reality any caster shouldn't be able to move while casting. Firstly it messes with the lore as casting takes concentration and focus that moving would not afford. Secondarily you have a very extensive cast range for spells, you need to be focusing on the back of a boss while the tank takes the hits from the front, this will help with many but not all AoEs. If it is a circular map wide AoE you shouldn't be casting anyway, you should just be running away. Thirdly, this is part of the aggro/enmity control management in this game. If a Black Mage was reliably casting with no ways to interrupt them (basically every boss fight if you have a good tank and all instant cast spells) then enmity would heavily flow to the Black Mage consistently.

Consider it this way, a Black Mage is a nuker/CC that requires actual strategy and positioning to be good. You are not just a cannon, you have to be aware of your surroundings.
