Maintenance: What are you hoping for

So what is the best case scenario for you? What do you hope this maintenance will provide? Now looking at it differently what do you think it will actually provide? Lastly I am curious (in a morbid way) assuming an epic failure and things stay the same, difficulty logging on, not being able to play ect. would you leave or stick around?

threads like these stop poping up so my rss feed doesnt get blown up while im in game.

As long as I can log in and play when I want to log in and play I will be happy. I don't care about extra "free" days or any other compensation. I love the game enough to know I am willing to pay monthly for it, as long as I can finally log in. I won't deal with this log in issue any longer.-- no matter how much I love the game.

hmm... at this point with how its been thus far? hmm just that the launcher opens and patches the game lol....

The only thing I want from tonight's maintenance is the death of the 1017 bug.

I am expecting that login restrictions will be eased significantly to the point where they are basically absent, with the possible exception of peak time on weekends.

I am hoping for announcement of some character creation restriction easing, too, so that my friends who pre-ordered the game to play with me can FINALLY start playing it.

Its not a bug or at least thats what I gather from ffxiv_en news. 1017 is when they flip the switch and restrict the player from playing so it doesn't crash the server/make a even more unenjoyable experience. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The hope is that they took this long before the update because they realized their butt was on the line pending the outcome. While it sucked to wait the whole week for a change, its better than Square digging an even bigger hole by rushing servers into action that would not have been fully ready and pre-tested(they better have pre-tested the new servers).

That being said, i doubt this upgrade will go snag free. If i had to bet id say there will be at least one post upgrade maintenance to fix new issues that pop up.

I just hope that this fixes the major issues, that we can all build our community in this amazing game.. other than that.. we shall see!

No, you're right. I just referred to it as a bug because it's a simpler way to put it, IMO. :)

I expect there to be possible issues afterwards. Hopefully just minor ones. However, issues are kind of expected to hit after such a big maintenance. I'm really hoping for access to a server transfer afterwards.

I hope to see that they can at least put in some measures to make the game accessible and playable up through the free access period. Otherwise, one can point out that they're probably holding off on major fixes until after free access ends, and the server population diminishes.

What they currently propose is a temporary fix, and we will most likely be discussing this again in less than a week after the maintenance. I had high hopes for this release, and now I'm only hoping they can salvage it.

I hope that 1017 will be eliminated. I don't mind at all if I still have to sit in a queue to get in, I really just don't want to continue playing the Start>(Select Character)>OK>1017>OK game again over and over to play my character.

With that resolved, I hope they can start getting after other technical issues, like crashes upon restoring from alt-tab and the forced restart if one wants to switch audio devices while playing, etc. etc.

As far as what I expect? I expect I will see 1017 many more times this coming weekend, if not sooner. :cool:

To me while getting into play at all would be great, the weekend as you mentioned above, will be the real test I believe.

What I want to know is this: now that Duty Finder matching is taking place within groups instead of across all servers, does that mean that queues will be longer on average?

So far from what i've heard on Reddit. nobody has been getting 1017, and they have working queues currently. but then again, this is all 1-2 hours after they finished maintenance, so it's too early to tell for sure. The more people that report they are not having this issue, the more likely people are to log out when done playing.

no more LAG I hope, but it`s a small small chance that they will actually fix anything.

My biggest concern with this update is the restrictions on character creation. I've already seen the list of worlds that characters cannot be created on and it is a big one. My world is on it and it has only been a few hours since the patch has been implemented. I get that my world is highly populated but it is frustrating that even after the fix, my friends can't get on to create new characters which therefore forces me to possibly have to pay to transfer whenever the option becomes available.

I would personally like to have a choice when I want to log off, not be booted (out of a sanctuary) and not able to play for over 36 hours.

Simply put, this is a pretty cool game. They made some major miscalculations and poor planning for the launch. Fist and foremost, they need to have inactive toons log out. Every rest area has at least 20+ players afk there afraid to log out for fear of not being able to log back in. This is a major problem for servers which are always 'full'. There has to be hundreds of players taking up space in the game doing nothing (yes, I became one of them after not being able to get in for over 2 days). I did not see this fix in this patch. Also, there are no toon transfers yet for those servers which were full after the first day of early release, which means all those players are still stuck on that server with way to many players. This also was not fixed in the patch. They have a lot more work to do to fix the issues. I am still getting every issue there was since early release and while they gave new players a place to go, the issues on current servers are not going to be fixed with this last patch.

On that note, once this is all done and resolved (this is a strong company which will overcome these problems) this will be a great game to play. A month down the line, this will all be a bad memory and something to talk about, 'how bad this launch went but how cool the game is and was worth sticking it out'. I am trying to stay patient while they get things under control and am looking forward to playing this game for a long time.
