It's faster to do your main story quest as well as side quests if you've been keeping up with them. At my level, even side quests are giving out 3k-4k exp. Levequests and guildheists also give pretty good exp, better than grinding IMO.
24/7 FATE's.
Like previous poster, doing main and side quests help and fates when you see them. When you unlock guildhests those give a good exp bonus on first completion.
Oh, well then. I guess I'll have to try out some fates. I'm never lucky in that situation, I only get to a fate when it's half dead already. Haha.
I don't really see a need to grind FATEs until lvl 30+ really... I haven't had a problem leveling just by following the main story quest and doing FATES when they are nearby. Then tackle the dungeons when the main story gets to them. And always keep up with your hunting logs. I've only done each dungeon once and I'm not finding it necessary to grind FATES at all. Albiet I am not too high of a level and will definitely look into doing my fair share of FATEs when I get a bit higher though (Probably mid 30s)... then if you just grind FATES you have to eventually go back and do all of your Main story quests which I find the thought of to be annoying doing really low level quests...
There isn't a need to really grind FATE on first class but after that the quests will dry out for additional classes so I tend to save a couple quests here and there to keep myself from getting bored of grinding in the future.
I ran into a unique situation where 2 full days that I played I was unable to advance my main story and just ended up grinding for the fun of it.essentially this meant that I am now level 23 doing the level ~18 quests/fates. The quests don't give as much xp as my level ones would, but I can get through them fast. I know eventually it'll catch up to me, but for now it seems like leveling is going oddly quick and it's been really easy.
So my advice would simply just to follow your main story/class story and do all the quests in it's way, at the same time doing the hunting log and any FATES you get close to....
As for grinding fates and what level to do them, +/-2 levels seems to be the sweet spot, although if you are high DPS, you can get good XP with +3-6 level higher. I got gold during a ~25 FATE when I was 21 (said I wouldn't get full credit) and got more XP than I got getting a gold from one my level, so it's still worth it.
