PvP Class with most potential?

So, I've always been the PvPer person when it comes to MMOs.

Based on what you guys know of the classes so far, what class do you guys think will be the "better" in PvP?

I put that word in quotation marks because I know that when it comes to PvP, player skill makes up a huge percentage of how a class performs. But let's be honest. Some classes are gonna be better than others.

Discuss?

For melee I think Lancers and Warriors will be the best for PvP. The Lancers jump abilities will actually work good in PvP since they disappear from the screen, short stun cooldown, greatest burst dmg in the game, and insane damage buffs, they also where armorer gear. Warrior because they do nice damage and have a ton of HP. Also Lancer has one of the best debuffs in the game for PvP which is Slow.

For Caster I think both healers will be great but probably the scholar more than the WHM because of the shields and they have a few more instant abilities. For damage I think the Summoner will shine since they have a pet and good instant abilities. Ruin with a blind, Energy drain and really nice pet damage buffs that can't be CC when combined. So if you want a solid PvP class go Lancer, Summoner, or any healer.

To prove that my opinion is just off of abilities of the classes my main is actually a Monk and I think they will be the worse in PvP. I only see Monks being good if they get an instant 3 stack of GL or they stances last longer, I can see the class being really annoying to play in PvP.

BRD. Ranged dps with snag abilities will be pretty hard to beat. Brd has a silence shot for any ability that isnt instant and can use songs such as swift song to always keep distance while shooting. I also believe warriors will wreck hardcore in pvp

Gotta agree with the others. I think Warrior will be the strongest. Dragoon and Bard should both be pretty good as well.

Still we haven't seen the PvP versions of each job's skills, so we won't really know until then.

Also @SixSymphony, Swift Song can't be used in combat.

Melee always get the shaft in PvP. It's even worse with the latency issues. I constantly get target is not in range when I'm right on top of the person on my screen.

I just don't see MNK being one of the top classes unless they change the way their stances work, especially against anyone that can even remotely kite them. Of course SE has said they'd adjust abilities for PvP though, so that may not end up being the case anyways.

It'll likely be a ranged Job that rules PvP though, at least initially until things are finely balanced. Like striderbob said, one of the main issues is latency. You can be right next to the enemy and you'll often get the "target is not in range" message. An easy way they could fix this would be to increase the range of close up skills and abilities but we'll have to wait and see what measures, if any, are taken.

Remember: there will be separate skills for PvP and PvE, so any guesses at this point based off "oh he has X ability and Y class has to deal with Z annoying mechanic" are simply wild guesses.

Who can attack from a distance and move while attacking and getting hit doesn't interrupt their attacks?

I agree with you about summoner we have alot of instant dmg that blind , reduce healing by half , bind target in place , slow movement by 40%,and spread to target next to it.... we also have range/melee dps pets that can be buffed by like 40%+ and designated area flares that dmg the whole area that a groups stand in(great for group pvp), and self healing

It seems from this thread that the most popular classes would be:

WAR
BRD
SMN
DRG

I'd have to side with BRD though. The ability to move and cast spells at the same time is very attractive.

While I have wet dreams of the MNK becoming quite good on pvp
I dont have many expectations, actually Im foreseeing a reroll necessity to be vaguely competitive on pvp

It's hard for me to say because we haven't seen the PvP-specific abilities yet.

Would they be EXTRA abilities added onto the abilities we already have? Or...
Would they REPLACE our current abilities with something different (possibly new mechanics)?

Will we receive more CCs? Will we receive any sort of CC-wipe?

My speculations below are based solely on classes I've actually touched since ARR began. I have yet to say what would be the 'best', but here are my opinions on how each class will function in PvP...

Looking at abilities alone, I was excited to think that Summoner may be a great contender. We have an insta-cast pet (in case ours dies) and Rouse to make our pet (temporarily) immune to CCs and a bit more powerful (in addition to another pet buff). Theoretically, we could just let our pet chase someone down for extra ticks of damage (if pets don't disappear once they get too far away like they do in the 'real' world). That said, if summoners excel at PvP... we'll PROBABLY become a primary target, which is an issue because we really don't have much to defend ourselves with when someone is up in our face. Our HP is the lowest of any class. We do have the AoE bind, assuming that doesn't have diminishing returns and that's enough for us to safely get away. Casting DoTs on moving targets could prove difficult, especially if the target is in your face since you have to be facing the target and the server delay could keep giving you the blasted 'interrupted' message.

I also think white mage has potential because of the ability to 'weight' someone and bind them. Fluid Aura could be a REAL life-saver. I see WHM as having a lot of survivability and ways to keep others away. They can be a great 'distraction' (bait) while the rest of the team chases someone down who is chasing the white mage. While running, a WHM can also throw an instant DoT for even more damage. 1v1, a WHM could do pretty well when rotating weight/bind.

Bards. Instant castsm damage on the move, a silence against casters, instant 10s bind CC etc etc

Paladine has Hallowed Ground Inverunable.
Warrior steals HP hit hard.
Bards have range hit hard can attack in motion but weak defense.
Dragoon has Dragonfire Dive , but weakness is Bind.
Monk must depend on Stun to survive, one on one its leathly but SOL if Jumped/Bound.
BlackMage Is Weak but Powerful if giving a chance to cast Sleep.
Whitemage is Average, has great heals but weakness is stun interruption.
Scholar is survivable with good DoT and Buffs.
Summoner has awesome DoT and Bind with Pet, only drawback is cooldown time.

pretty much what i said already..totally agree

I think White Mages will be really strong in PvP just from their abilities so far. They deal a decent amount of damage, have Regen, Stoneskin, Esuna, Strong Heals. A knockback and a bind, Sleep and Heavy. Thats a lot of control, sustain and damage in one class.

if u want a pvp challenge just pick the class who u think does not stand in most pvp.
all classes are suitable for pvp(i think) but its really up to the player who can make the class awesome and kickass.

im a brd so I think ill fair well in pvp the classes im most concerned about coming up against are tanks i have a feeling they will wreck shop...interested to see what they will do with my songs....anyone know when pvp is coming anyways??

Dragoon should be great. Great burst potential, stuns and leaps. Squishy classes will soon learn to hate the dragoon :)

I can't WAIT for pvp. Monks are going to KILL EVERYTHING....hopefully lol

I main a monk because it's fun to play. Having said that, PvP is about burst damage, range, dotting, kiting, and sustainability. That gives you an idea of which classes show more promise. (IMO, Summoners and Dragoons will come out on top.)

PvP should be fun, will be interesting to see range vs melee interact.

The way I see it is that Bards and Black Mages will wreck at range but if you can get in melee range of them warriors/pallys and dragoons will own. I dnt monks will be able to hold their own and the healing classes don't do enough damage for them to be contenders in pvp. I feel like summoner will be average but if their pet dies they are going to be up sh*t creek with out a paddle.

I think Monks will be fine in PvP. There is more to PvP than just burst burst burst.
