are repair costs a little too much? is SE panning to reduce the cost? I feel that the current system is a little much.
Do you mean with the repair NPC?
If so then I'd recommend just getting other people (or rank up craft classes to do it yourself) to repair it. It's much better as you can set the reward price and generally you don't need to set it too high unless it is high ranked equipment.
Also when an item is repaired by a player it gains it's full durability value back, whereas the NPC only restores it to 75%.
I don't think SE are planning to reduce the costs through the repair NPC at this time, however.
Hope this helps. :)
Considering the amount of gil in this game no they aren't, of course nobody uses them because they can get infinitely cheaper repairs from crafters.
Perhaps lowing the prices would encourage players to use the NPC more, although I', sure crafters would kick up a stink that they are losing their income.
As there isn't really any other way of taking gil out of the economy at the moment I think the costs will be here to stay unless SE make obtaining gil harder or create more gil sinks...
I won't complain if crafters stand in front of me 24/7 and repair my stuff immediately when I ask them to do
lol you use repair npc? lolol. Repairs are no problem with me and I havent used the npc since launch. All I can suggest is carry multiple weapons. As a mage I enjoy having both wand and staff on hand for variety. One wears out and I'll swap in the other if I haven't made it back to town yet. After the latest alterations to how weapons and equipment wear you almost never need to repair. whatcha griping about? It's so easy and you gotta go do this omg
I don't think there is any single problem with the whole repair system.
This is an MMORPG, things are supposed to be done by player, NPC is the backup option.
And ppl really need to aware of their full inventory, dunno how many time ppl whining no one is repairing their stuff because they dunno they are full. All you have to do is just go to Ul'Dah and make sure you have space, and of course, a non-insulting price offering to our respectable crafter.
It is just that simple.
I'm carrying 10 staffs now
what a fail system
everyone who said no problem are crafters, of course you have no problem
There is no problem with the craft system and the repair NPC is supposed to be an on-the-fly kind of thing so I agree with the cost.
@ Evangela: If you are carrying around 10 staves, that's your fault..not SE's.
I alway complain because in the last MMO I played I have this
Repair All, with little cost, almost every vendor npc

lawl WoW. FFXIV isn't WoW. Get over it. Repair NPCs, in this game, are NOT supposed to be the main source of repair. Again, they are NOT the main source of repair. You're supposed to rely on other players to help you fix your things. The NPC is just there as a last resort type thing if you log in, notice your crap is damaged and you have a NPC run in 5 mins.
tl;dr: Stop using the NPC. Players repair for much less.
mixing The Sim and Farmville to MMO as a huge part of the game is more ridiculous
then leave? I hate crafting/gathering as much as the next guy, but it IS a big part of this game. Almost everything revolves around it and I hate it, but you don't see me blaming SE for it. This is the kind of game they wanted and this is the kind of game we are playing.
and that's one of the reason why it's not as good as expect
I don't care if it's a huge part of the game or not as long as it's not affect the fighter life, repair problem is one of them

I think it is a good idea to keep the repair npc charges. A crafter has put in alot of time and gil to be able to repair your gear. It is worth it to keep repair npc prices higher to encourage use of crafters. If you notice lower ranked gear is not too terribly expensive to repair. So a new player can afford to repair at npc until they learn about the game and crafter repair. As a side note, please offer fair repair prices to the crafters. It is alot of time and gil to rank it up.
n order to repair an item do I just have to be that crafting class and have the repair item or does the crafting class have to be x level?
just because you refuse to buy anything but the endgame gear and use it on your lowest toons doesnt mean there is a problem with the system, the problem si with you
let me explain to everyone what you do, cuz i see yuou in game ALL THE TIME.
you sit, on your conj from rank 1, with rank 47 friggin staves and armor, and then complain that it degrades too quickly.
guess what, ITS SUPPOSED TO WHEN YOU DO THAT.
if you used it at the proper level, it wouldnt go down hardly at all, but you dont understand this concept.
we are here to play the game, the game changes as is needed, not as is needed for people who refuse to understand the logic behind mechanics
this is like saying "i dont like leveling please start me at rank 50"
"i dont like to pay for things please give me everything free"
its basicaly what you are doing
do you have to be the rank of the item? like for a rank 30 weapon you need to be rank 30 craft class. this is one of the reasons I think repair NPCs should be cheaper. to have to level a whole other job just to repair items is bad game design. most if not all MMOs in the past few years have had a NPC way to repair items.
I just want it to be what MMO should be
try to be different will lead this game to nowhere else
and how exactly should it be? FFXI was different and it was wonderful. WoW was different from FFXI and it has a huge playerbase (most are children, but it still has the numbers) LoL is different from SC2, but both are great games and both have well over 10k players. So tell me, what defines a MMO? Because from what I've seen, there are a lot of MMOs that are different from each other, but most are doing very well =)
Repairing at NPCs is a huge waste... but I've personally had no problems putting things up for repair for around 2-5k gil and asking around Ul'dah for repairs
so you have to be with in ten levels of an item's level to repair it? I should also try shouts in town to find a crafter until I sure up my craft levels?
unless its a rare item or an item people dont carry, repairs come very quickly with shouts, very very quickly
rare/hard to find as in weevil bows(crafters dont carry weevil elytrons)
and in the cases of those items, knowing that ahead of time and carrying them to give the crafter for the repair gets you a quick repair too
i sit at the repair npc for hours every day while i craft, and youd be surprised how little people wait for repairs(except for eva who sits there with a full inventory wondering why they arent getting repaired) and those who dont wanna pay for them
It's a waste of time...
if you playing gladiator you need to be r30+ blacksmith and armorer to repair your gears
then if you want to play archer you need to be r30+ carpenter
then if you want to play thaumaturge you need to be r30+ goldsmith
you have to be r30+ goldsmith anyway to repair your accessories
and r30+ weaver/leatherworker for your attires and shoes
ok, just separate these crafting stuff out of warrior life! I won't complain anymore
that's why I said this game forced you to craft no matter how much you don't want to
the real issue here is that eva lacks the ability to be social or make friends to get stuff done easily and freely
they want a SINGLE PLAYER GAME, which is what an MMO isnt
i think the op understands how it works by this point, right?
will you teleport to repair my gears anytime I call you?
i dont have to, im usualy in the same area as you, but as i said, your inventory has been full every time the last few days ive tried to repair you! thats no ones fault but your own.
and i suggest you get an actual shell who will help you if it matters that much or make these things we call friends. those help alot in getting things you want faster
I think I get what I need to do if I don't want to craft. Relying on NPCs should be my last resort if I can't find a player to help me.
yeah, very simple
1) set repair offer at reasonable price(5k usualy will get you what you need real easy per piece)
2) go to repair npc
3) make a shout of what you need(i usualy prefer people to be specific so they know exactly what you need) "Blacksmith repair rank 24 item, iron nugget, 5k reward at repair npc"
doing this you rarely wait more then a few minutes
if you want to repair while offline, put them on your retainer, in the menders ward and itl usualy be done when you come back online too
very very simple
