Stunning Ifrit Hard Mode

Okay, so I'm usually the stunner. I never miss a stun on Eruption, but sometimes it goes off anyway. So I figured the diminishing returns are kicking in because someone else is using it on accident or whatever.

So I ask and no one says they are, but it keeps happening. No matter how perfect my stuns are throughout the fight, he still manages to get a few off.

I tried Spirits Within, but the animation is far too slow. And I think silence might share the same DR.

So what am I missing?

There's only 1 Eruption that should go off, at ~60% HP.

That's the only occasion, presuming that you're not stunning Radiant Plume and no one else is stunning, that Stun resistance should reach 100%.

Built-up immunity. If you stun every Eruption up until that point, Ifrit will still be immune and there's nothing you can do about it. Luckily, it's the only time during the fight this is the case.

I'm getting the exact same thing. I'm stunning perfectly, no plumes, just white hits and stunning Eruption. Combat log even verifies that I'm stunning correctly, yet Ifrit still uses Eruption. It's not resisted or anything, it's just... broken.

I did a few runs perfectly with no Eruptions going off, but then this happened.

how do i know its exactly the right one? is it right after he does his first emote?

what lvl is the ifrit fight to do over and over for the gear drops

That's odd. I have no issues stunning each of his eruptions.

I have however been wondering if Spirits Withing or Shield Swipe share the same Stun resistance. Because I've had runs where my stuns were reisted. And nobody used stun.

If you have DRGs using Spineshatter dive, it causes stun DR.

So it all comes down to this, its nothing fancy really.

If the stun says "Fully resisted" - Someone failed and put him on Dimishing returns.
If the stun says "+Stun", and he finishes the cast anyway - You didnt cast it fast enough.

This can be due to delay (which we have no way of seeing what our acutall delay to the server is, but my guess is that its quite high. Seeing as you sometimes get hit so damn far away from aoes its ridiculus.

My tip? Make certain you land the stun before more than half his cast is done, other wise its proned to not get registred by the server in time.


Been doing Ifrit bout 20-22 times, and ive had around 10 perfect stun-runs out of those, if im not 100% concentrated and instantly stun him when he cast, it will not register even tho it says "+Stun" well before the cast is finished (on my client, but not neccessarily on the server side.)

*Edit: Worth noting is that if you're playing on the european servers. Well you are fucked. Because the European servers arent actually located in Europe. They are located in NA.

From what ive heard and can tell, in a full party you have 100% hit chance with all your abilities. Atleast ive never seen em miss in neither 4man or 8man dungeons. So im calling the rumor correct.

Not true. If you stun perfectly, boss will be immune to one around 66%. You might not notice it because eruption doesn't do a ton of dmg yet, but since every spell he casts at the beginning of the fight is erruption, the boss will go immune once.

Not true tho, cause it depends on how quickly you push him into the next phase, the eruption is time based at the start, enough dmg onto him and you wont have that immunity.

If you in the later stages get plume - eruption - plume, youve got bad dps. If you get Plume - Plume - eruption, you are on track, and ive seen em both

We're using a stun rotation with 2 Warriors and a Dragoon (sadly no Paladin in our party q_q) and we are able to kick every cast, maybe it's because of Armleg's assumption and we have good dps, idk :3

He never get 1 Eruption off, EVER

Shield bash has a 6 second stun time at 0 Resist

That's how you know. It goes 6 seconds for the 1st stun, 3 seconds for the 2nd stun and 1 second for the 3rd.

After 1 second, the next SB will be on Dim returns.

DIM returns( from my timing and yes, I timed this shit. Is 45 second windows.

When you throw the 6 second stun, you have 45 seconds before the Dim return Resets.



What effects SB Dim returns? - Shield Swipe does, So if your MT is a PLD, tell him NO

Sleep does - So no sleeps EVER, even though you cant sleep him so i have no idea why BLM do it??????????

Minions have stuns from SMN, so tell them to be careful.

This is what I can confirm thus far.

Watch for the icon on Ifrits status bar. Its a red icon with a silver stick man in it. It will always be the 1st icon since stun has priority over and DoT or Enfeeble.


Phase shifts reset Dim returns too. After Pillars die, Thats a Dim return reset when he ports to the middle and does his move.

For whatever reason if your PLD can't figure out why his/her stuns aren't landing and you dont have a BLM and your group isnt too geared seeing it't the 1st End Game fight


He'll knock back twice at the start before his 1st eruption. He'll erupt a second time before his 1st dash. This too is 100% certain.

After a dash, he'll erupt after his 1st swipe flame breath.

Running Admapor as PLD on the first boss when Marionettes spawn I keep them stun locked until the DDs kill them to prevent deaths from their directional and aoe.

On the second or third marionette I was positioned directly in between it and my healer whom it targeted immediately. I waited for it to run past and threw a shield bash... for whatever reason, it continued to run past me and started using Rockslide when it got close to the healer, WITH the stun debuff on it, counting down from 6.

This fight is depressing with 2 warriors, it is doable but due to the stupidly long animation cast on Brutal Swing, when tanking the boss you need to auto attack when you know your stun is coming :(

Could do with the warrior stun being an instant cast then showing the animation after would atleast be useful(even if it looks wrong)

Is this something that's now confirmed, with any sources? A Dragoon friend of mine said she was ignoring Accuracy because she'd never seen a single ability miss, yet it feels like a lot of mine miss as a tank... I may just be considering solo though. If that rumour is true... does that mean that Accuracy is a totally useless stat for anything outside of solo play?

In 1.0 accuracy was among the stats buffed by being in light/full party. It may well be that teh full party buff is strong enough that it puts all/nearly all players above boss evasion for these lower tier dungeons. Perhaps on higher level bosses (CT/BC) we will notice a need for accuracy.

Bump. I just was just doing Ifrit hard mode with a 2 warrior rotation. Man, it was frustrating. There has to be some server delay because when it was my turn to interrupt I hit it right when eruption came up on my screen. But sometimes mine and the main tank's didn't register for some reason. I am on a Ps3 so I don't know if that has something to do with it or what.

I did about two dozen Ifrit (hard) kills over the weekend. Two of those wins were with a two-warrior stun rotation. Stun rotation was pretty easy if you take 60 seconds and make a hotkey (user macros in system menu or something). Mine went "<p> Ifrit stunned! Warrior xyz your next!" *Note copy text inside of parenthesis only not the parenthesis themselves.

Honestly the fight is so damn boring to tank it was nice to have something to do... Still most other times we got a two warrior que someone would insta-leave or the other warr would try and fail to keep rotation and we'd wipe a lot.
