Are they going to alleviate the congestion for full servers, they keep mentioning duty finder, is that going to effect the login issues?
please read this sticky its all explaind in there http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...s-Restrictions
So it seems they are not expanded or fixing the current full servers but opening and closing the flood gates during certain times.
Am I reading this update wrong?
they are adding new servers, the current ones work yust fine. cannot really say what influence it will have on the current full worlds. and yes they are monitoring login/restricting them to make sure the servers dont crash
LOL opening new servers and changing the duty finder.... But screw those full servers, they'll have to buy server transfers to not experience 1017 on a daily basis.
SE is missing the point with this upgrade and it will become glaringly obvious on Wednesday.
Server capacity is the problem and new worlds are not the solution unless they are capable of offering free, fast transfer to new servers. They are not, so this is going to do little to nothing.
So basically, people on full servers have a extremely high chance of getting the dreaded error 1017 after this half a day maintenance?
I'm pretty sure the current servers are being artificially capped. If that is the case then after they do their fixes they should be able to lift those caps while bringing new servers up for others.
Did you read the Yoshida post? The servers are capped at 5k concurrent users. Unless they add resources to increase that capacity it WILL NOT fix the current issue for full servers. Instead of adding that capacity to current servers, they are adding new servers.
Can you see the problem here? Without free and extremely fast transfer service, which they currently are not equipped to offer, hardly anyone is going to move to the new servers. Most of us are already invested in our characters too far to abandon them. Therefore, full servers will remain full, new accounts will go to new servers, and error 1017 will remain in effect for the foreseeable future.
I read it just fine, in fact he never said they were capped at 5,000 at this time. he said they were designed to hold up to 5,000. They could easily have them capped at half population right now to cut down the load across their whole network.
Here is a better quote for you. All worlds are comprised of many servers. They are adding servers AND worlds AND optimizing the entire thing:
Quote:
. "Our server team is working around the clock to fix the issues," said Yoshida. "We are working on an update to distribute the server load that will go live on Wednesday [Sept. 4th] that will clear everything up. Then we'll be ready to take the next step with our fans."
They are also adding more capacity to the dungeon finder servers... you know those servers that are the whole reason they added the server restrictions? those servers that couldn't let you do storyline quests or join instances? yeah those
I'm fine with new servers, so long as the option to transfer to them is opened up immediately. I have no qualms about jumping ship on my current overcrowded mess of a server.

read this article. Half way down explains a lot. Atleast it did for me.
New servers are okay... just don't spread yourself too thin.
I seem to remember them hailing over 1 million beta tester registrations. One would think that would have clued them into knowing that 230,000 concurrent user spaces wouldn't be enough to handle the demand. Grab your popcorn for Wednesday if the issue isn't fixed. These forums will be filled with more drama than a lifetime special.
I think the most fun drama will be everyone fighting to AFK. The usual AFK people, and those who feel like they should AFK just in the hope of blocking out the old AFKers so they can see the problem. I don't think it is wrong to expect TWICE as many AFK people after the changes, regardless of if there was any log in errors. Which means even if they do get this maintenance to solve the problems, the community will break the servers anyway.
LMAO... Let me get this straight... SE is adding NEW SERVERS instead of increasing the capacity of EXISTING SERVERS? So they're just hoping that new players will be low enough in their progress to just say F*** it? I really don't see that happening(lol). The only reason I can even begin to fathom why they would be executing this horrible plan is because they have no other choice? Technical difficulties? This is going to really hurt this game, a major, major blow to the game.
Well I'll take your word for it, but only because your characters avatar reminds me of Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?
I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere, as I haven't read every post on the subject, but what I think would help this whole new server situation is something like the following:
A new server comes up. It becomes the target transfer world for 3 of the existing worlds. They offer any players on these servers a FREE transfer window of something like two weeks to THAT one particular server. Yes, some people will stay behind, but I'm sure many people will take the opportunity to hop from a full server to a new server if it comes at no cost to them. For those who remember, this was a procedure Blizzard did for vanilla WoW when many of their servers were full at prime time. Maybe they also limit character creation on these new servers for a couple of days to see what the numbers are and take it from there.
SE is vague on the communication side. Most information is not specific in nature.
No one expects the game to be flawless. It's pretty bad. Games I have played in the last year or two were OK at release. You could always log in and play.
Issues:
Issue 1. Lobby errors. Closes game. No retry.
Issue 2. Unable to get list of servers from one region or another. Not seen a case where both regions are unavailable.
Issue 3. 1701. Unique to FFXIV. Unacceptable.
Issue 4. 10102 error. Usually occurs after disconnection during instances. May have been addressed.
I think the data center upgrades will be a step in the right direction and suspect SE will follow up with further patches that will address the individual server load issues.
People are mentioning free transfers. Probably not a bad idea. There is no point staying on a server you cant access.
According to what I read it seems they are only adding new servers.... which means:
-they are not upgrading current server capacity
-not instilling auto-afk kick feature
-not announced free transfer to the new server
So it seems the current problems will not entirely addressed. However it seems they are aiming at:
-increasing login server capacty (fewer chances of getting 1017 and most likely the return of queues)
-they also seem to want to release "some" of the login restrictions.
Now it seems like the congestions will still be there, just less cloggy. Maybe i missed something? Maybe I didn't either way I'm not rerolling on a new server so if they don't increase server capacity I'll just have to suffer through it.
Before they started limiting the logins what was crashing was the duty finder, infact a lot of people were getting stuck at instance cutscenes or sometimes the duty finder would just reply with an impossible to connect error. We are being limited not because we cannot stay online but because spamming the duty finder with quests and dungeons will make it crash stopping everyone from playing.
Getting a better duty finder will solve the bottleneck so that they can let more people log in. If they also get a better lobby server that will solve the concurrent logins issue.
Odd... I could of sworn the first time i read that post from Yoshi (couple of days ago) there was something along the lines of 'We decided to cap the servers very close to the 5000 limit' - Im paraphrasing of course, but yeah. I distinctly remember thinking to myself how bad that particular part made the situation, since they didnt really have the option of upping the server cap... Hmm.
The reading comprehension in this thread is beyond awful...
They are adding new servers, the existing servers are being capped because the Duty Finder was crashing.
They are upgrading the Duty Finder servers as well, which will allow them to uncap the existing servers...At least that is their plan, we'll see if they actually pull through.
This is exactly the problem: the current servers are over crowded and they are not increasing their capacity, rather they are creating new servers and then will charge us to transfer characters. As Grey said, "Most of us are already invested in our characters too far to abandon them."
Something that would make me happier in the interim while they try to fix everything would be to fix the world queue. I would much rather wait in a queue of 50, 200 or even 1000 people enter my world -waiting my turn fairly- than try over and over to get an error message that it's full. Square Enix: if you read this post (I sincerely hope you do!) please think about this recommendation. Please also offer free server transfers for one character of our choice.
Please provide with information re just how many accounts have characters on each server, not how many characters they each have. E.G. you have a maximum 5k people who can play at one time. Are there 7k, 10k... accounts with characters there?
