[Suggestion] Add Mog House/Apartment Ward

Suggestion to add/adapt the Mog House system from XI to XIV.

-It could be called Apartment Wards or something similar.

-It could have a base storage/bank + storage amount based on furnishings within it [similar to XI.]

-A Delivery Box/Mail system could also be added to the Apartment Wards.

-It would provide a calm private place to craft and an area to sort through equipment and storage [freeing up retainers for the sole purpose of bazaars.]

-A friend invite feature could be implemented allowing you to invite your party members into your house/apartment.

-Gil could be spent on upgrades for your Apartment, expansions or other visual modifications.

Any feedback and suggestions from other players is welcome.

Oh yes, we definitely need this! I miss having my own private place to hang out when I want to be away from people!

Sorry about that. As the forums have just opened a lot of ideas are flying around and many of us have a lot to say and there are a lot of us with similar ideas.

Our technology is bigger, stronger, better, and why stop at a single box of a room... when we can have a glorious mansion and garden? Granted, such a thing will cost more than a pretty penny and a lot of effort to have, but that's OK, because for those who decide to fully upgrade their houses, the journey is half the fun!

Here is the basic concept: We start out with a simple plot of land, and can hire a caretaker, similar to our old mog buddy, to help manage our home. My personal idea is that the type of retainer would be based on the area of residence: moogle for Gridania, qiqirn for Limsa Lominsa, and mammet for Ul'dah. Naturally, it would be best if we can change our area of residence, similar to FFXI.

But what are we to do with a plot of land? Why, build upon it of course! Through use of lots of materials, one can build a staggering variety of options for rooms and homes, but at a cost. For example, every house requires a foundation to build on, and the first foundation option would be cheap, but unable to support the weight of some grander houses, and look a bit grungy to boot. To build such a foundation, you would have to give your caretaker the appropriate materials required to build a foundation, perhaps in this case made of simple slate or whatever material is appropriate, and a good amount of it, as foundations are fairly large! You would also need to pay an amount of gil to pay for the services of the craftsmen hired to build said foundation. Once built, the foundation can be placed where you want it, and similar to mog furnishings and the like in FFXI, you can rearrange it afterward if you don't like how it was placed.

Once the foundation is build, you need walls, a roof, and perhaps windows and a door, and the beginning options are quite naturally rickety and cheap. Perhaps maple lumber or other cheap wood used to build the house would be used, along with the gil for services, and the ability to place them. It would be even better if you can adjust the size of the walls and direction, letting you create indoor rooms as you see fit, but I'll leave how possible or impossible things can be to the development team. Perhaps wall "sections" could be used though, as ways to create rooms through indoor separators.

Of course, after the house comes furnishings! Unlike the house, decorative furnishings can be crafted and bought from other players, like with FFXI, which means you can start off with a ramshackle home but still place a bed fit for a king inside if you see it fit right away.

But along with the decorative furnishings comes utilities, things such as a forge for blacksmith work, that can provide guild support for free, though the first forge option would be a bit... questionable and only provide common support. like the basic structure of the home though, the more you upgrade it, the more varied and useful later options become. Your first option might only be a ramshackle forge for instance, but after obtaining that, you might have a couple different options of forge for the next upgrade that provide a better support with different appearances, and after upgrading that even more options and looks. In the end you might wind up with a forge that grants master support or better yet, a step higher, though at a fair cost!

Having a yard is no fun if you can't do anything with it, however. Through a similar system you can bring materials and gil to your trusty housekeeper to create plants used to make a garden that becomes the talk of the town, and even harvest from it! Of course, the first grade will be level 1, and have terrible items to harvest from, but with work you can unlock higher grades and improve the loot tables, allowing you to harvest in the peace of your own garden, safe from ravenous fiends. Similar options would be available for the other diciples of the hand: trees to log from, an entrance to an underground cave that you can mine from and even decorate with items such as glowing crystals, fantastical stalagtites and stalagmites, underground rivers and ponds to fish from, and more, and for above ground, decorative ponds and rivers you can stock with fish, perhaps even fish you can see swimming around simply for decoration, and beautiful bridges to cross them!

You could even give invitations to people you want to enter your mog house, allowing them to use your facilities as well, issuing them tickets for say, an hours of clearance in your estate, or more. By creating such invitations, you open up a new market, that of people who want to customize their houses specifically to attract renters for use of facilities, who can rent out their homes to people wanting to use the ultimate in crafting support or great facilities in exchange for gil. And speaking of which, by making a requirement in gil to build various parts of the house, utilities, and landscaping, you create an impressive gilsink that can counteract the massive inflation that runs in this game from leves, npcing of items, and behests. And, similar to dynamis and behest, you can raise or lower the costs as needed to adjust the amount of gil leaving the economy!

Of course, perhaps it could tie to companies, or linkshells as well, if you wish to do it that way. You could have a main hall where the guild master and whichever linkshell members he deems a caretaker can upgrade and change the decorations, with plots of land surrounding it, each owned by individual linkshell members to take care as their own, giving a sense of community and a great hub for linkshell members to gather at.

Mainly though, don't feel constrained by the box of a mog house that we had in FFXI. Let's think outside the box, to the whole house and outside world, and let us customize, customize, customize! Whatever options you have obtained, let us use them whenever we want. If we decide that we want a sprawling mansion but those gleaming marble walls are tiring us out, let us be able to change those walls back to the old maple planks we started out with if we wish, provided we paid for that upgrade. And if we decide that we like the marble walls better after all, let us be able to change back. Give us the tools to let our imaginations run wild, and you will have created content for the game that could even attract people who specifically enjoy playing a game simply to play house. Just look at minecraft and how popular it is!

And finally, it is something you could use to implement future content. Chocobo raising like with FFXI? We could build our own chocobo stables and raise our chocobos right in our home, take them on walks through our own garden, and have them curl up on the couch while we talk with our linkshell buddies at the table. I'm not suggesting everything could be connected to our houses, but with enough customization you could tie in quite a few things to it and build a sense of community and belonging to adventurers in Eorzea!

This idea could be expanded to LS apartment complexes or something to that effect. In there the LS can craft, hangout, plan/gather for events. When companies come out this should be considered.

I would really like to see some improvement in the direction of retainers. On our server (Trabia) it seems that most of the population has migrated to Ul'dah, and doing so they have put their retainers there as well. This has caused the wards to crash about once a day. I believe that an AH should be implemented or expand the program to include more retainers in one spot.

Some sort of private LS Quarters would be great. Some of the thing from Darkshade list could be implemented in to it aswell.

I was hoping for more of a Linkshell/Company house. A large open area in the middle and you could have the ability to run over to a door/stairwell/elevator to warp into your own private bedroom that you could decorate. This would also ease development time as they don't need to figure out some sort of hallways and individual rooms.

The guildhouse itself could possibly be upgraded with crafting support facilities and if implemented a courtyard where you could grow a garden and harvest produce/dyers moss/random stuff you tend to find through harvest.

I think that would be a better idea than just slapping in the old moghouse scheme : )

Mog houses and instanced apartments are outdated, no offence.

We need to be able to build houses in a persistent world/zone like any other AA title.

Uldah: I am sure will have an additional spot added as well

These, if I was a betting man will be the locations of player housing. The entrances are similar to market instances.

Or the AH, or company stuff, or <insert unreleased content here>.

Either ways, a Mog House would be awesome. A nice little cave to decorate, receive mail and craft without the lag from other players (normally I use an empty ward). :/

in ul'dah there are no empty wards :( so i have to craft on the fly risking the ever present legs right in the middle of my crafting DX but yes i would LOVE an area all to my own or even my ls'! the idea of biulding and customizing your own area sounds absolutely enticing!!!! or for that matter completely forgo the on my own option and co op with ls members! i already spend a large amount of time crafting with my friends and this would generate a common goal! and interior decorators!!!!!

what would be nice (imo) is that the crafters are involved with making the companies and housing. Crafting is sooo boring and to have carpenters make the houses, chairs, tables, ect or weavers making banners, curtains, ect or any crafter having input to the building. I think that it would take time but it would make it fun for the whole LS to be involved in it.

I personally never enjoyed the centralized system like this in FFXI, or EQ2. I did take advantage of them to some extent, but I found in the long run it usually was not worth the hassle to go all the way to my specific home vs using public resources; Bank, AH, etc..

I think it is a great idea. It really is. But I found that I prefer the normal setups most MMO's have.

Now if people prefer this feature, I do hope it get's implemented. I just wanted to provide my 2 cents.

Mog Houses / Retainer Houses / Company Housing
PLEASE! Please give us an equivalent to a mog house, a place that is special to us, and a place to show others. It was a very wonderful thing in XI that made it amazingly unique.
- Furnishings
Furnishings would also be another way to encourage people to craft:
1. Carpenter: Furniture
2. Weaver: Rugs, hanging scrolls
3. Alchemist: Fish Tanks / Sparkle Tree or Incense Lambs
4. Armorer: Coat of Arms / Crest
And more.
Our Retainers can be our moogles. Here are a few of the great things that we miss: Egg lamps, plants, sparkle trees, dividers, wall scrolls, maps, paintings, mannequins, mini airship, globe, anything that glows, furniture, PIANO, fire place, a quiet place to call our own, decorate how we want, and a bed. And the fact that you could interact with many of those items, or just enjoy their beauty.
Also now you have the opportunity to implement something very original, a chocobo stable in our own homes.

If you do community housing with Companies can we at least get our own rooms and then a common room? That would be cool too and we can decorate our rooms and the common room and then Company stables as well!

This isn't any other AA title.

As a side note - I *really* like houses, and it has driven me to play games before entirely to see what houses were like. But of all the games I've palyed I honestly liked City of Heroes/Villians the most and think something like that could work really well for FFXIV - especially for LS'es. Want a bigger place, crafting facilities et al? Pay more rent. And a teleportation menu a la the Market Ward could allow you access to other member spaces if SE was so inclined.

I also want a mog house, but some of the improvements that could be given which would they be?

All of this, make it happen! I'm tired of bumming out in the corner near the Ul'Dah fountain, my character needs a warm cozy place to call home. A place where I can hide from the chaos of Eorzea and just for abit put my mind at ease in the comfort of my own home!

I really like the housing from Lotro, You could wonder the streets, go visit a neighbor, or have a concert in the center of your neighborhood. I also like the idea that Swg had of open world lots and you placed your house where you liked.

And unless they changed the concept (or tossed that idea) of player-run companies I'm sure we will have physical locations for them.

Based on the way that SE operates, I have faith that there will be player housing at some point. Maybe a neat little quest to go along with it.

Apartment wards, I like that ^^. Mog house wouldn't do, since in FFXIV Lore, mogs stick to the forests. Or at least I have not seen one Moogle in the city areas.

I would love this to be implemented. Either as a personal space or an LS space, or both. I think having a place to make your own would really expand on the current game.

This idea, as many have mentioned would motivate crafters, stimulate the economy and give people a sense of belong to a particular area.

I'd love for this to be implemented! x)

I'm all in for a private living area, and a mailbox/auction house would be useful as well!

Actually, I think those areas already exist. In each city, there's a zone you can't access. Like Limsa's Northern Islands and Gridania's Lilly Hills. Maybe it has something to do with it :)

LotRO had some nice ideas (neighborhoods, music/wall choices, upkeep), but the actual decorating of your house was simply atrocious. I would much rather have an interior decorating system like EQ2 rather that LotRO's abysmal hook system.

This is one of the biggest things I would like to see implemented into the game. Unfortunately, the amount that people want to see would require tons and tons of work from the devs. I'm ok with them starting small, like a simple mog house from FFXI, and then consistently updating and making it more amazing as time goes. I do like the aforementioned ideas of chocobo stables in our own home, more than one room, and an outside area.
