Is it really asking too much

For them to just restart the servers every morning at like 8 am? Boots all afkers while they're asleep and gives everyone a chance to get back in the game. Right now since its a 3 day weekend, no one is logging out over night and now no ones really getting in since most people are just afk

I think they need to implement some sort of AFK system. Like if you are AFK for 15-30 minutes it boots you out.

Yes. Booting everyone at once results in thousands of players all slamming the login servers at once to get back in. The simple, obvious, wtf is wrong with you SE question to be asking is why is there no AFK timeout.

Afk-logout would probably help for a day, then people would just bot or use a device to keep an action going.

I like the daily reboot option until things get fixed. I suppose this option could put strain on the login, but anywho...

The anti-idle thing doesn't really work either. As for DPS waiting on Duty finder sometimes you queue and go afk for a bit while waiting since it takes 15+ minutes at times to get in a group.

is it to much to ask people to stop QQing. they posted that they are aware of the problem and they are fixing it and that it will be ready early this week. probably Monday or Tuesday. If thats not enough info for you to be assured it will be fixed, how about they are also giving us 7 free days to make up for some of the down time we had since last tuesday. and i say down time as in people not able to log since the servers really havent been down.

They could space out each world though, boot everyone on 1 world then hour later do the next, this way only a minimum amount of people are login in back in at once, doing this won't cause an over excessive strain on the servers.

Another note, I see problems with people logging on lasting longer than just till Monday or Tuesday, the full servers isn't the only problem they're having . I see this last at least a month.

simple temp fix to people not logging out. and it can't really be that much more stressful on the login servers than everyone slamming them constantly for hours trying to login since no one is getting off since they're afk anyways.

then 25 hours later all the servers have finally been restarted? This is a horrible idea. they are doing what needs to be done to fix these issue no need for anti afk no need for restarting the servers.... the issue will be resolved when the new hardware is online and server upgrades are completed.

It works for World of Warcraft, why wouldn't it work for this game.

In WoW you stay AFK for 20 minutes you get logged out.

I agree* i already have a macro set up for such an event in other mmos on my gamepad. I press the button without a number and it pressed Wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww for about an hour, spams the number keys, and then pressed ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss then presses aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

on my other keymap it has the map click all over the screen for point and click only for movement mmos

they would have to do some serious restricting.

its not gonna work because people will just circumvent it. they would make a macro on their gkeys or razer keyboards to press jump then pause 5 min then jump again. to prevent from idling to long. This is why antiafk systems are dumb and pointless.

I had a thread going about this very thing earlier this week. Was discussing how they could script a scheduled reboot everyday during the servers lowest load level.

Unfortunately, it is something like 3000 posts down the line now because everybody keeps starting a new thread to register an already established complaint, instead of just contributing to an existing one that is already on the front page....

Lets see if I can find it again.... Search box.... enter "reboot servers"... click Search. Oh wow... over 4 pages of hits??!! Oh... look... there's the two threads I had going earlier this week... lets see if we can get them back to the front page again, and see how long it takes for them to scroll again...

-some- people will make a macro to circumvent it, but the mass majority of people aren't that smart lol you give people in general too much credit.

AFK timers would definitely boot the majority of AFK'ers

Simple at this point all of these things are not needed because the issue will be fixed in 2 days.

What is QQing? I am sure you don't mean crying because QQ is actually an old term coined during the age of early network play where it meant to ragequit because QQ exited the app. So is it too much to ask that people actually understand what they are staying and quit regurgitating misinformation?

Why oh why does everything get compared to WoW. Personally I despise the game and couldn't stand playing it despite someone offering to pay the sub. How about we skip trying to turn this into wow and move toward something DIFFERENT than that PoS game :P

No not everyone that stays logged in would do so. Some people simply find leaving their machine on while they sleep or go to work is pretty simple. Making a macro actually takes work and you would be shocked at how lazy people can be. The reality is the more people stay logged in and cause people the ability to do so will only encourage more to do so. I am wondering, as much as you defend this, are you one of those staying logged in 24/7? I am betting you yourself are contributing to this problem and are pushing against the idea so as to not have to deal with the issue.

If it helps, I played my first online game with a 2400, I remember upgrading to a 9600 and thinking life was good.

First of all, your argument that an AFK system would not stop 'most' players from AFKing still implies that it would help prevent at least SOME people... for a system that does not hurt the game in any conceivable way.

Second of all, you're wrong. Straight up. You really do give the general public too much credit. 'Most' is really overshooting it.

Finally, it's not just an AFK timer we need. A login queue will mean that players can login without having to actively gamble at it for extended periods of time. As long as the player is guaranteed to get in eventually, there's no need to AFK to ensure that spot anymore, and an AFK kick timer ensures the queue keeps moving. MMO 101.

lol.. BAUD rate. Wonder how many here even know what that is. It was so much fun to walk into a government building and find old System/36 systems still lying around... the dreaded hard drives the size of a masonry block that couldn't even hold a single CD's worth of data. Seriously, they were complete with fan/heatsink and literally like 20 lbs or heavier. Oh, and the 8 inch floppies.... 1/4 tape reels.

The good old days, when you could actually get at the guts of your OS. This Win8 crap is driving me NUTS!!!

Sometimes I wonder if that isn't part of our problem with SE these last few years. All the younger script kiddies that have no "old school" skills, and just don't know how to think things through and plan properly for the exceptions that can come their way. I remember first watching guys do things in Eclipse, and I was like WTF?!! It was like automated coding? When the hell did that happen?

Man.. I feel really old now... time for some Irish Coffee, and back to work.

Not to hijack the thread but . . . do you remember making those 8.5" floppies double sided so you could skip out on the extra cost? I remember seeing people sticking them between book pages and freezing them up. As far as those giant drives I might actually have a few lying around for posterity somewhere, assuming my wife didn't toss them already. Remember when 'tape' drives came out to pc markets? by tape I mean cassette tape. I am not sure I actually EVER got one of those to actually WORK. You remember the 'turbo' button that came with the newer PC's? I remember someone pushed that once when I wasn't paying attention and it took AGES for a game to load and I was wondering WTF!?

That was back in the days of MUDS. I believe some of my old stomping grounds are still around, maybe I should go look while we have down time! Assuming I can still read.
