Significant parts of this game are UNPLAYABLE on PS3.

Hi all,

I'd just like to share my experiences as a PS3 player with the community and hopefully create some meaningful feedback.

I absolutely love playing this game on my PS3, but unfortunately there are issues with rendering and no parameters to switch graphic settings to allow the game to be more playable.

An example of this is the Behemoth fate. I went in with a party of 8 people; however, an incredibly large amount of other parties were there too.

I could not even see the boss or target any of my party members as I am given no option to prioritize what is being rendered. If party member's models aren't rendered they can't even be targeted for heals.

This made the whole experience very unenjoyable and frankly, I was a waste of the party slot.

I believe PS3 players should be given an option to prioritize rendering of their own party and mobs engaged in combat.

This isn't limited to PS3. This is exactly the same on even high end PC's.

Monsters do not have visual priority. Nor do party members.

This needs changing.

I seem to recall some discussion of this during the last phase of the closed beta. At the time, the SE response was that they were working on prioritizing foes... but with the unexpectedly large turn-out for the launch, it may have been put on the back burner.

What I find thoroughly annoying on the PS3 is during fates, such as Behemoth or Svara. It seems to prioritise other players Egi/Fairies and annoying chocobo companions. I'm not fighting them. I don't want to see them. It's also annoying when my party members disappear when I'm on CNJ/White Mage. I have to try and strike it lucky with medica :( as if I can't see them I can't target them on my list.

Since it's such a wide spread issue, Square will surely fix it. But right now their hands are full with server capacity problems.

Aye, your issue OP is not a PS3 issue, it's an everybody issue. It's nothing to do with system performance, it affects everyone. Savara, and Behemoth or Odin if/when they appear are prime examples. Too many people makes it hard to see the things that matter, and you can easily be killed by mobs you can't even tell are there.

Yeah I picked up the ps3 version so i could chill on the couch and play some 14. It seemed like a good idea until I experienced the insanely long loading times(entering the waking sands) and the annoyance of fate mobs and quest npcs taking forever to load in on my screen. Not to mention the choppy npc animation makes me want to fork my eyes out.

Another MMO i had has 300+ people in 1 small area. you could hit shift+f12 to hide everyone except monsters. Enemy players names showed up in red ya know...so you can run away from them/kill them with fire. FFXIV needs an option where you can just hide all models except for those in your group, and foes.

Its a problem on PC as well, can't see the boss or my party members. So, I just go WHM and heal/raise random people that needs it.

I believe that was in Aion. They'll most likely implement something like that into FFXIV soon. Maybe with the first update.

I am finding while playing on my pc that the pets are a nusance when trying to target mobs - am I doing something wrong or is this norm for now? I even unchecked NPC's on the target options menu

This has been a problem for me even on my PC with a GTX 580 and getting over 10,000 on maximum on the benchmark.

Many times I can't find the quest NPC because they aren't appearing on my screen, or can't target what I need to in FATES.

I knew it couldn't just be me but I was pretty surprised - I thought this new game engine was supposed to handle amazing amounts of characters on the screen at the same time. I sort of remembering Yoshi touting its benefits in this area.

Not to say these aren't legitimate complaints, but can't you use d-pad up and down to cycle through party members without having to find/click them?

Yeh these are frustrating. I also think that for the ps3 users they shouldn't have other peoples minions or pets displayed on their screen. Then fix the rest of it so party members and enemy are prioritized. Everyone in town has carby out and minions which is quite annoying to most people

No, you can't. If they aren't visible, you can't target them.

Maybe I'm wrong, but you should be able to cycle through the names in the party list, even if you can't see the actual model on the screen. It seems odd that that wouldn't work.

Setting up priorities for what phases in first was something I was thinking of, too. I feel like this order would be most logical:

Monsters->party members (your companion/pet->the members of your party->your party members companions/pets)->NPCs->other players->other players companions/pets->minions.

With this order, you can see what's hitting you, and unless there are a few dozen of them on-screen you'll then be able to see your immediate group, then any NPCs (which is very useful when turning in items for a FATE/keeping that NPC alive), the other players and their pets, and lastly the minions which are really just vanity items. Cute, but they're not gonna make the difference between a win and a loss.

I love this game as a PS3 player and don't regret it at all. It's great to sit on the sofa and play an MMO. Having said that the only annoying thing is the same as many of you, not being able to see monsters or party members during FATES, or heavily populated areas. I don't usually have problems in dungeons just some lag. I admit my Internet connection/speed isn't the greatest which is definitely a contribution to these problems.

It is surprising to see PC players having the same issues, but I'm sure square-enix will sort it out.

If I remember it correct, the limit of visible objects (players, NPCs and enemies) on PS3 is around 30 or 40 and on PC around 100.

In 1.0 the limit on PC was also around 30 or 40.

The main issue is being able to target FATE mobs and/or NPCs. You can't do that in the party interface, and cannot if they are not visible.

nope you cant you can not click on their name MO macro them use a dpad to change to them they are 100% untargetable if they are not rendered

I found that turning off all player effects but mine helped load the monster/Npc a lot fast in crowded areas

On a PC:

Systems Menu --> Character Configuration --> Character tab --> Battle Effects setting.

Leave yourself cranked. Turn your party to some. Turn everyone else off.

I've already done that on PC and Svara still just vanishes.. sometimes in the middle of me casting spells on him, which then get interrupted as a result. I have to walk over and stand literally inside his model (or where it was) in order to be able to target him. As a result, I almost always get hit by that web of lightning attack, and sometimes die. It removes my ability to play strategically at ALL.

This really isn't acceptable, and I support OP's post 1000000% percent. I think everyone is SUPER over only seeing swarms of ifrit/chocobos and no mobs during FATE.

This sounds a lot like the issues which plagued Guild Wars 2 towards the 'end game' dynamic events when there were simply far too many players and mobs to render which didn't allow their model to load in until after an event. You wouldn't even be able to tell if you were hitting the mobs until you got this awkward pop-in animation of mobs dying after a bit or, even worse, WvWvW ghost battles.

i have also had this problem it has made fates almost unplayable on ps3 i have turned all the effects, on screen numbers, name tags off ect ect nothing seems to help, we really need something in the options to set our prioity, as a drg i dont need to see other players there pets or there eggi just mobs, as a healer i need to see pt members and other people. what i dont need to see as any class/job is a army of chocobos and eggi, i hope this is fixed soon i really wanna get stuck into some high level fates but as it is now its a waste of time.
