From then to now. Did they keep their promises?

Here is what was shown to 1.0 players before telling them to start paying monthly again.

Now besides the 1.0 free trial being cut down from 2 months to 2 weeks, what else do you guys think about this outline?

I think that they did a remarkably good job meeting their targets within a short time period, and the things that aren't implemented yet are scheduled for implementation in the upcoming months.

I sort of wonder what sort of implication you're trying to make by posting this thread. Is there something in particular that you're hoping people will notice wasn't delivered on and will be outraged by?

The combat system is nothing like what they implied it would be.

Only having 2 weeks of access for free while the servers dont even let you log in most of the time is BS.

Other than that its great I guess, if youre into WoW clones.

Remembered about it, thought it'd be neat looking back and comparing what they promised to what we have now.

Apart from the not being able to log on bit I'm extremely happy with the way things turned out. Unfortunately the ability to log on is kind of critical. Once that's resolved I'll be quite content.

I don't have a problem loggin in, then again I don't play at prime time.

They did what they could and had to cut some tasty fat, but what we got is a far cry from genuinely bad.

Im currently happy with the game in general... I bought the game since 1.0 but didn't sub cuz it was so bad, but now, tho still has a lot of flaws, at least it meets the MMO standards...

What I still hate the most is classes balance & no ability to party with certain friends on different servers, far from the thing called "A Server System Built to Support a Worldless Model". I thought it would be more like GW2 but this isn't even close :(

For as vague as the public doc was, there did pretty well as far as what it promised. I don't see anything vastly different from what they wanted to do initially and what they delivered.

Well imo they didn't keep the promise about spamless content. I suppose the amount of times you have to run a content to consider it spamming is very high in se's mind. Probably somewhere over 9000...

Er, what? It says seamless. Find me a game that you don't spam something on. Dare ya.

Overall, looks like they're on track.

Idc what it says in that link. Back before phase 1 of beta, yoshida said conent would be spamless. This was in response to the hundreds of times people spammed dungeons to get geared. The idea was to get rid of the abysmal drop rates, but they merely replaced that with the need to gather a buttload of tokens, which also require you to spam.

Again, yoshida said long ago, one his first arr design concepts.

That's a inherently flawed concept. You likely misinterpreted it.

If you only do something one time and then never do it again, where's the satisfaction? It's akin to holding out your hand, getting a cookie, and leaving. But you want more cookies, and more and more... and soon you've eaten all the cookies from the cookie jars in the neighborhood. So you go to a new neighborhood and complain that you got cookies in your old neighborhood just by walking in and holding your hand out.

You NEED some spam to feel the accomplishment.

I wish they would've told us they were getting rid of the wonderful score Nobuo Uematsu composed for the original FF14, and that all the textures would be a lower resolution. These things were a very nasty shock for me when I first logged into ARR.

Hopefully the PC users get the better/original textures when the PS4 ARR comes out, at least...

Fortunately, those tokens you speak of drop from what appear to be three different dungeons and three primal fights at the least. If you choose to pick one and do it repeatedly, that's your choice. There is nothing that requires you to spam the same event over and over and over.

Also, inherently, it's impossible to make an MMO where you do an endgame event once and be done with it. MMOs would die off in a heartbeat if there wasn't some possibility of not getting a drop or gear or token from the instances.

Basically, you're wrong. You don't have to spam anything. You can do Dzemael Darkhold or Adampor Keep or Garuda or Ifrit or The Binding Coil of Bahamut or <blah blah blah>.

I think most features were beautifully implemented. Content patches are part of the outline, including what we saw with chocobo racing and the like, not the mention the already announced Gold Saucer.

This is the first MMO where I'm really sinking my teeth into and proud of the job Naoki Yoshida did on this absolutely gorgeous video game.

Square Enix has done a total 180 when it comes to listening to fans and this project with re-birthing FFXIV will go down as one of the most significant in video game history.

An epic apology for all those that wanted a proper, modern FF MMO.

Having played the original in all it's terrible glory, I have absolutely no faults to lay on the revamped FFXIV. To me, it's at least as good as Guild Wars 2 and perhaps even better. Combat is fun, there are plenty of quests and a great in-game tutorial. The story is enjoyable, the cutscenes are epic and the world is vibrant and alive.

It's a total turnaround from the original, and I love every second of it.

I believe they did a fine job. Even though the launch failed for the western populace.

It keeps drawing me back in and thoughts of the game linger long after I log off. So far - nothing seems a chore in the game but instead a challenge and joy. If this was their vision - they pulled it off.

You don't have to spam one, but you have to spam many still. Same thing, you just don't have to do the same dungeon over and over. Its still content spamming, even if you want to be all technical about it. They pulled the wool over your eyes, but not mine.

That last minute joke of an update to crafted mats forces you to spam content possibly more than you would have in 1.0

Honestly they did a remarkable job. I stayed away from the first release because of all the negative-feedback from the community and professional critics alike. It was across the board.

This 2.0 however is solid and pretty much feels, to me, like a FF game of the past but one I can play with friends simultaneously.

They've made a very good game here.

Now if they'd just fix this ridiculous infrastructure issue and let people play it uninhibited...:mad:

They kept most of their promises and did a lot of work in a very short amount of time. Kudos to SE.

Dear OP.

Riddle me this, riddle me that.

If these "promises" are subject to change how are they actually promises?

They put down their game plan, far ahead of the schedule in which they were going to do it. This was more like the results of brainstorming. While some ideas work, some don't work. I think they did their best in which they could stay true to the game plan. They put out a high quality game, with very little bugs in it by release. Sure there are some server issues, and they're being addressed. The world doesn't change in a week, nor do game servers.

You need to think, as the servers get more space, more people can log in, thus knowing how much more they require. It may take a couple weeks, but it will be resolved that's for sure.

I too am upset they made the game graphically worse and changed the soundtrack.

As am I. There IS graphic improvements with the "new" 2.0 engine but certain parts of the game just look like poo. I really hope improvements can be made. Here's hoping that DX11 brings some nice improvements(doubtful..) for those of us with top-end PC's.

I've always missed the old soundtrack ever since I logged on for the Alpha tests.. but meh, I usually just have my own music playing now though.

I thought I would be upset about this, but it only took a couple days to realize I didn't want pay a sub fee for this WoW clone. Took everything generic about modern MMO's and slapped Final Fantasy on it.

I think the WoW clone complaint is one of the most overly used complaint about mmo's, that people never back up with examples of how it is a WoW clone. The only thing that I ever really see that a lot of games take directly from WoW is the quest system. This game feels a lot more like FFXI then WoW, but its not FFXI, and its not WoW, it's an mmorpg and feels like a mmorpg. All the devs did was go what humans have been doing forever; they took existing mmorpg ideas and techniques (most of which did not even originate from WoW ... but whatever, people think WoW invented the wheel, when all the really did was make the wheel popular), and worked them into their design.

Yoshi P flat out said there would be enough quest content to level multiple classes. This is not true, there is insufficient quest content to level one class, let alone three. That notwithstanding, many of the promises / aspects of A Realm Reborn have been as promised.
