i love it!
I don't see anything wrong with it.
If they wanna use fates to get exp and level up, then they understand the purpose fates were intended for.
Dungeons over fates, any time of the day... if we don't had to wait an hour for an dungeon to open... :(
It really ends up being the equivalent of camping in one spot and pulling a rotation of mobs like in XI. Just that times have changed, nothing more. The targeting aspect of the Zerg rush gets difficult but FATE party grinding is efficient so I can't complain much.
Personally, I'd have to agree with the OP that FATE zerging is not my ideal way to level and I doubt that SE intended the player base to travel like locusts from fate to fate. Fortunately SE has implemented myriad alternatives to character advancement (quests, leves, dungeons, grinding, etc.) You can't argue with efficiency though, and I'll take FATE zerging over the 1.0 system where xp/sp was rewarded based upon battle performance. But I was pretty damn good at heal sniping :-)
I'd imagine there will be some balancing down the road of xp rewards derived from various activities so that xp reward v. time spent ratio isn't so slanted in favor of one definitive way to level your character. In the meantime though, I'd strongly recommend that everyone get on the fate zerg gravy train while it lasts.
personally i find zerging the same tiny monster in groups of 6 1000s of times to be more disgusting.
If you don't like fates, don't use them. I actually find them enjoyable and when there is a good group the banter can be pretty amusing.
So...don't do it?
I don't really mind that players level this way. I just wish the way I want to level was just as efficient as zerging fates. But its not, so no one will ever even want to do anything besides fates. That is the problem. IMO Fate pop frequency should be looked into to discourage hordes of people just standing around waiting for the next fate to pop.
"If you don't like one of the best sources of exp in the game, don't do it." You're basically telling people not to utilize one of the key ways of leveling up since not even dungeons are as good as FATES.
Which is exactly what you do in the majority of the FATES, especially the ones people party for, don't even try to deny it.
I dont mind if people level that way, while personally i just want to do them because to experience the Fate itself. There are many different ones, with different mechanics and objectives. What i find seriously annoying is being in a Fate and having Fun and 100+ People running into it, zerging everything down. <_<
About most of those people you will see Threads about how bad they play; no wonder when hack & slash is all they did from 1 to 50. Having it as an option is totally fine, but using it as the main-source is something i would like SE to change. A Exp Cap per day from each Fate or w/e else. That's just my point of view tho.
Sorry but you are wrong and I will deny it. Killing 1 mob type for hours is boring and mind numbing. Running fates can actually be enjoyable. You get to fight different types of mobs, even some boss ones show up and becomes a mini raid of sorts. There are various objectives to different FATEs and things to keep them fresh. There is a variety, even if it is repeating them, it is still far more enjoyable than "stand in 1 spot. pull 1 mob. kill it. repeat" over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... get it?
Sorry, but the Lv50's in lv20 gear show why fate leveling is horrendous.
Except I will deny it, because you aren't fighting just one kind of monster 100s of times for hours to gain one level. No, fates are much more varied than that. You fight different things in different places and there are tons of people, not 6. Fighting savara is nothing like fighting robber crab #947, #948, #949... in the same spot.Quote:

To be honest the only thing I really dislike about FATES are the ones involving one huge strong enemy, which basically boils down to 200 people hitting a target that may or may not suddenly disappear for a few seconds for a few minutes without really having any idea about what's going on and then getting gold medal for it.
See, the beauty of this game is that there are many different choices to level up.
For at least one job, you'll be able to level almost entirely from main mission and side-quests.
But you can also get exp, a little gil, and seals if you wanna stick to an area and do fates.
Or you can focus on leveling in dungeons with the allure of nice gear every now and then.
OR you could mostly focus on soloing and filling the hunting log as you go if you want to drag things out. Or potentially team up and killing many at a time.
Or...any and all combinations of the above. I think it's wonderful.
I think Fates are just an unispired zerg fest that gets burned through as soon as it pops. They should add scaling based on the amount of people in a fate. Also they are just so bland. I played Rift briefly and the titular rifts (fates) had stages and facets. If you let a rift open for too long it would evolve sometimes leading to invasions and the lockdown of a quest hub.
I honestly prefer doing quests(I enjoy the story and what not behind it) rather than fates. Sometimes though if you are just trying to squeeze that fast level in, doing a fate or two is harmless. However those who just doing fates to grind and level up is kinda taking away from what the game offers.
Don't nerf it.
all the MMO always destroy good stuff because people keep doing it too much. Hope SE will not be the same. If you want to make people do other contents then improve them to be as good as the one that people love.
.... Which would then just get zerged down by a mob of players who wanted the quests from that hub.
.... Or a level cap player will just happen by and one shot everything.
.... And then you enter a zone with so few players, EVERY quest hub is locked down with packs of elites.
Yeah, i played Rift. It was good, the Rifts were a solid idea, but lack of any real scaling and the propensity for them to spawn in under populated zones and then overwhelm all the quest hubs was terrible.
FATE's feel quite organic to me, I see a FATE pop up, i can solo it if i happen to be the only one there, or a million other players will join me, and suddenly that wave of 2 mobs is now a wave of 20 mobs and the shit hits the fan. Make sthe world feel a little more like a world seeing so many players converge on something.
Only problem I have with Fates are that by the time I get to them, most of them are already almost over, and there's no point in doing anything just to be rewarded with like...600xp. I wish there was a Fate progress thing on the map that you could see if you put your mouse cursor over the Fate, that allows you see if the Fate is almost over.
The concept of grinding FATEs isnt too different than the old Dunes grinding groups from FFXI. Gather a bunch of friends and kill mobs in order to maximize your XP gained. I, for one, am okay with it.
it also provides an alternative to questing.
I use fates just for the seals... the xp is not worth it in comparison to grinding beast camps.
I love the fates where there is one giant monster towering above everyone and tons of players all beating the **** out of it. It feels like an epic, random boss battle. Reminds me of big daddies from bioshock, and anything that reminds me of the big daddies must be good.
