These webs are pretty expensive (on my server), especially with how many I need to make progress on my crafting log. Where is a good place to farm them?
So far I've gotten all of mine from toto-rak because the Diremites I kill don't drop them.

In North Shroud, there are level 26-28 diremites just over the bridges to the west.
I made a quick guide for these guys, since they need to be farmed by all weavers (Paying the 45k-60k that you'd need to level past velveteen is pretty absurd).

Have a watch, leave a comment, etc!
I just continued to make cotton and occasionally there would be diremite webs as a reward from leves but now I'm stuck on flax and those are pretty expensive too
Starting at level 20 you can go to quarry mill and turn in a Tripler, a levee traded craft quest allowing you to turn in the quest three times per allowance, which requests cotton coifs of gathering (cotton yard vendor is alchemy guild vendor). After the first turn in and until you hit level 25 this quest will net you 10 webs, about 1000 Gil and 20k weaving Exp per turn in, which is 30 webs 3k Gil and 60k Exp per levee allowance. This type of quest is available for all crafts and at all levels. Craft something of the previous rank, and turn it in at a Tripler to "convert" materials of one tier into the next higher tier. If anyone locates other cheaply crafted turn in triplets like this let us know. It is quite easy get 100-200+ webbings this way before leveling out of the cotton coif window
I go east of Fallgourd, over a bridge a little, and north. There is an area that about six spawn pretty quickly, and now that i'm around 40, i can wipe them out pretty quickly. I get more sinew, but in an hour or so of farming (and i was the only one there the whole time) i got close to 99 of regular, and 20 or so rare. Even when i was appropriate level, it was a good spot, as i could do them without grabbing more aggro, and it was even smoother then as i was slow enough that they were already respawned before i killed the last, so non-stop farming.
I've gotten most of mine from levequests in Ul'dah.
Might have to try those leve's, farming in North Shroud is just a nightmare, there are only 8 mobs that drop the stuff and every weaver / leatherworker on the server fighting for them. I got about 40 webs in 2 hours competing with lvl40+ guys.
I can't believe suck a key crafting item has been left to so few mobs, they need more mobs that drop these.
This was really useful ta =)
Which leves offer them as a reward? I looked at the 20 and below Weaving leves (which according to another forum post online was supposed to have Diremite Web as a reward), but it was only for lightning shards. Most of the leves were for lightning shards.
The quest is called "The Telltale Tress" though it seems the reward is rather random. I did this quest a few times this morning on my lvl 23 Weaver. First two times I did this, I got 10 diremite webs per each turn-in. Third time though, it showed 12 Wind Shard as a reward. I did not pick it up that time. And later when I went back, diremite web was available as a reward again.
I'm also only seeing shards on any leves I look at. Bad luck I guess. I need ~120 more diremite web.. Is there anywhere else to get this material besides north shroud, leves, that one dungeon, or that one quest that spawns mobs that drop them (I already completed it ><)? I go to north shroud at off peak hours and there are 2-7 people farming constantly... I really don't want to have to grind through these levels using stack upon stack of cotton bolls/spend all my leves.
I know there are probably other materials that are going to be as grindy as this one and that makes me a sad panda. I was having a lot of fun being self reliable at crafting - gathering all my materials without having to deal with the stress of other player competition - I usually dislike crafting in mmos because of this. Fun level has plummeted because of this though. :/ I'm begging for more info on mobs that drop this elsewhere.
bump.. the amount of mobs that drop these is just absurd please add more mobs or some other way to obtain them
Bump need more mobs.
This really needs some attention ASAP. I've crafted in many games, this is probably one of the most absurd bottlenecks I have ever seen. Bumping for more recognition.
would like to add Fleece to this too... its just too few spawn points for the sheep and is overpriced at the market ><
I'm guessing fleece is a high-level material so it would make sense that its at least a bit difficult. Diremite however is a mid range resource so its insane for to to be this hard to obtain.
Gigantoad skin is kind of a pain too. The drop rate from toads by Wineport is awful. I know there are higher level toads in Mor Dhona, which I haven't seen yet.
Okay, just to clarify. All tradequest leves have a cycle of rewards that they go through (in no particular order). Sometimes you'll get a material, others you'll get shards. In the case of the Lv. 20/25 leves in Quarrymill, you can get either Lightning or Wind Shards OR you can get Diremite Web.
As for me, I've been sticking to making Cotton Dress Gloves and just turning topping off my allowances every day, then farming the Banemites in North Shroud while waiting on the Duty Finder.
----Edit----
As far as difficulty, well... I think they should at least make it a drop from Diremites and Mitelings in the lower level areas just so that there are more mobs out there that actually drop it. Sometimes it's way over-farmed :<
----Edit 2----
It might be that you're awarded 10 Diremite Webs for the first leve you do per day and then it goes to giving you shards instead. I haven't seen any webs show up past the first turn in.
----Edit 3----
Nevermind, just got more Diremite Web, it's just more difficult to obtain.
A boost in the drop rate for diremite webs would probably help. I finally got into a good groove of farming the ones east of Fallgourd, but it took forever to get enough webs to continue crafting, and there were times I'd go 10-11 fights in a row without a single drop.
I farmed these for about 2 nights in a row, enough to get 2-3 stacks of them and maybe half a stack of high quality. Thank you for the notes on the leve rewards in Quarrymill. Thankfully, in my case, 2-3 stacks was just enough to get me through to linen. I used the leves in quarry mill to keep a decent stock of them.
To get through those levels, there is a leve you pick up in ul'dah for a velveteen cap of gathering or crafting and deliver in quarrymill. I found this very easy to HQ and the exp was more than your usual, probably because delivery was in Quarrymill (like enough exp to get almost half a level at 28 and 29). As more botanists are getting to levels 31+, the price of flax is going down.
I finally got through those levels by turning in the cotton leves while using the diremite webs to replace my crafting gear. I actually sold most of the velveteen cloth for some nice profit.
Flax was easy enough because I could gather it but now I'm on fleece which means more farming. :(
At least there's a choice of several locations to hunt for the webs. Including a dungeon. Only one area in the whole game for Aldgoat stuff.
The low level (20ish) ones in Thanalan drop them fairly well, I did some farming tonight and ended up with almost 60. That said I also farmed some Banemites for the Sinew and ended up with almost the same amount of webs in a shorter time, but only about 40 sinew.

Finally hit 30 with WVR today..not quite done yet but I should have enough Webs to carry me through.
At Quarrymill there's a level 25 Levequest, I forget what it's called, but they ask you to make "Initiate's Slops" (http://xivdb.com/?recipe/539/Initiate's-Slops).
I just made about 25 of these (I had a lot of levequests banked for such situations) and I got 11 Diremite Web from every turn-in except for 2. Maybe I just had good luck, but I'm now sitting at level 30 with nearly 200 Web left.
I still have a lot to go for the 750 synth achievement at this bracket, but that can wait until I'm 50 and wealthier to get the Web I need for that.
Hope that helps someone!
If the Quarrymill is offering shards the go to Uldah. There is a qest, gloves I think, that you bring to quarry for turn in. This quest gives 4 webs. Then sign up in quarry for the coif qest. so far for me that gets nets up instead of shards everytime. I will do couple of coif quests until it offers shards. Then I go back to Uldah. BTW You can choccobo to south end of map, catch another chocc to drybone and third to Uldah, or vice versa. So if one end or the other is a home point round trip only costs about 120 gil or so.
No botanist? I farmed a good 300 stack
I farmed all mine in the shroud as well. Wasn't all that bad and they do seem to drop 1-3 webs pretty consistently. Its definitely worth the time to save the gil. You'll get plenty of sinew as well.
Screw it, web's gone cheap on Behemoth, I'll share what I did for leves. The trick is that completing any leve at all cycles the rewards for all of them. So if, for example, you finish a botany leve then it also cycles all the other classes leves too. Using this you can fairly easily and quickly cycle through leves if you have a large number of allowances (took me maybe 30 allowances to get 400 webs), and it also gets you useful xp.
I found this was good because I could then level other crafts and botanist while waiting for the appropriate reward to appear. Plus, once you get web it seems to appear for a good run of leves. I'd regularly get at least 80 web before it either switched or I got off. The only issue here is the number of materials you actually need. If you buy base materials then The Telltale Trees ends up costing about 100 gil/web, largely thanks to shards (I'm also doing LTW, so crafted my own hard leather). Obviously you could gather mats to drop this cost, although you need a lot of shards. Getting Handsy also gives diremite web and is cheaper, but also gives less web per allowance. I personally didn't do the level 25 leves, since at least one of them actually required velveteen, but you could do them too.
Why do I say level other crafts? Because you get a ton of xp just from making the items and turning in the leves for WVR. I went from 23 to 27 just earning my webs, hopefully crafting them should put me up to linen.
This does need to be addressed Diremite web is a nightmare if none of the leves are offering and the Diremites are being heavily camped.
Fleece and all of leatherworking are worse. You can easily get to 28 off a few cotton leves. Taking Flax/Linen from 28 to 50 is a nightmare in terms of time and fleece is more expensive because its used for Wool AND Felt.
5 days is definitely time consuming and 15 leves is a lot for crafting considering 1 leve allowance is a ~70k or ~95k with no HQs depending on if you're doing the 35 or 40 linen triple leves. That's over a million xp from the guildleves. I farmed 1000 flax and did 11 leves too and coupled with the quests it also took me to 47. Everything from around level 36 until I started turning in the guildleves was definitely extremely time consuming compared to when I was actually crafting stuff around my level.
We differ in opinion then. 5 days for me is pretty much nothing!
Fleece is just as bad if not worse than diremite, partially because many of the woolen recipes use fleece AND diremite/velveteen. Neither would be an issue if the mobs that drop them weren't so bloody rare. What the heck were they thinking??
